Not only is it one of the more affordable UK regions, but there are lower-cost venues that are perfect if you want to keep your spending low. The average cost of a wedding venue in Perth and Kinross (as well as Scotland as a whole) is £5,685, which is also less than the overall UK average of £5,945. So, if you’re on a tight budget, you have plenty of venue options to choose from.
With such a diverse mix of venues to fit all kinds of wants and needs, wedding venue booking lead times in Perth and Kinross can be fairly lengthy. On average, you’ll need to book between 12 and 18 months ahead, but some of the more popular venues and dates can be booked up more than two years in advance. If you have a particular venue or date in mind, we’d recommend getting in there as quickly as possible.
If you’re a little more flexible, this can work in your favour. For example, if you’re open to a winter wedding or a date in the middle of the week, you’ll likely find something six months from now, or even less if you’re happy to consider a wide range of venue types. And not only will this make finding somewhere easier, it’ll often cost you less, too.
Being inland and fairly close to the Highlands, Perth and Kinross has a slightly milder climate than coastal regions across Scotland, meaning colder winters, warmer summers and plenty of seasonal variety to inspire your wedding planning.
Spring (March – May) sees woods and parklands like Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park burst with life, and temperatures warming up from around 9°C (48°F) in March to 15°C (59°F) in May. It’s a popular time for nature-themed weddings and outdoor photoshoots during the latter half of the season.
Summer (June – August) is peak wedding season in Perth and Kinross, with long days, lush greenery and average highs of 17°C to 21°C (63°F to 70°F). It’s ideal for garden parties, marquee receptions and alfresco drinks overlooking the lochs at venues like Millearne Gardens and Boreland Loch Tay.
Autumn (September – November) brings crisp air and beautiful colours to the countryside, which makes for some exceptional wedding photography. There are usually highs of 8°C to 16°C (46°F to 61°F), making it perfect for cosy, atmospheric weddings. With an increased chance of rain, you’ll want to go for a venue like Dalnaglar Castle, which has a mixture of indoor space, as well as some outdoors, for if the weather behaves.
Winter (December – February) weddings in Perth and Kinross are often snow-kissed, especially the higher in the hills you go. Average highs hover around 3 to 6°C (37°F to 43°F), but can often dip below freezing. That means indoor venues are a must, such as the fantastic Enterkine Country House Resort and Alexander House.
Perth and Kinross are well connected for guests travelling from across Scotland, the UK and further afield. The city of Perth itself is a central hub, with easy access to rural venues dotted around the region.
By road, Perth sits on the A9, which connects it with Stirling, Inverness and Edinburgh. It’s about 90 minutes from Glasgow or Edinburgh by car, with plenty of parking at most venues, especially those that are more remote. Just bear in mind that some of the more in-the-sticks venues might be hard to get to during and just after a bout of snow.
By rail, Perth station is served by direct trains from major cities including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness. By air, both Edinburgh (EDI) and Glasgow (GLA) airports are under two hours away by road.
As for somewhere to stay, there’s a great range of options, from boutique hotels and country house estates to family-owned B&Bs. There are even plenty of brilliant hotels around the area that have event spaces of their own, which makes them a convenient option if you’re looking to have your whole day in one location.
