Bath is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in England, known for its stunning Georgian architecture, Roman heritage and natural hot springs, which is how the city got its name. Bath also has an amazing literary history, having been home to Jane Austin, as well as Mary Shelley, who wrote a portion of Frankenstein in the city. That officially makes Bath the birthplace of the entire science fiction genre! If you love history, or you’re a major bookworm, these all make Bath an amazing place to get married.
Our 2025 Wedding Report uncovered that 13% of couples get married in Bath and the wider South West region. Just over two-thirds (67%) of local couples choose to stay in the area for their big day, showing just how much it has to offer. The average cost of a wedding in the area is £21,921, which is actually a little pricier than the overall UK average of £20,822. That being said, the fact that so many couples choose to host their special day in Bath is a testament to its appeal.
As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bath is a hugely romantic setting for weddings, thanks to its iconic Georgian architecture, cobbled streets and countryside surroundings. Whether you're dreaming of a grand celebration in an opulent ballroom, an intimate gathering in a historic venue or an outdoor wedding with stunning views, Bath has something to suit every couple.
Bath’s stunning Georgian architecture and bags of history provide the perfect inspiration for weddings in the region. Many couples are drawn to luxurious city weddings, taking advantage of Bath’s grand townhouses, Roman Baths and heritage venues. However, for those wanting a more natural setting, countryside weddings outside the city set among Somerset’s rolling hills and landscapes are just as popular. Whatever their choice, couples in Bath often make sustainability a priority, going for eco-friendly venues, locally sourced food vendors and suppliers who focus on sustainable practices.
Food-focused weddings are a big trend in Bath, with couples keen to showcase local produce on their menus. From West Country cheese boards to gourmet Somerset cider and scrumptious cream teas, locally inspired dishes are becoming a key part of wedding celebrations. A selection of local gins and craft ciders is also a must-have at the bar.
Many couples in Bath opt for all-in-one venues, whether it’s a chic boutique hotel, a historic manor house or a quaint garden setting. This trend contributes to lower wedding transport costs in the region, with local couples spending an average of £396, which is significantly less than the UK average of £626.
Bath is filled with incredible venues, from grand Georgian mansions and historic townhouses to elegant hotels and countryside estates.
It almost goes without saying that there are tons of venues in the area that lean heavily into that deep and amazing history. Fancy getting married in a castle and lording it up like royalty for the day? You could choose to tie the knot at Clearwell Castle Wedding Venue or Thornbury Castle, two absolutely stunning castles outside of the city itself. Or, for a wedding more befitting a lord or lady, there are many stately homes and country manors around Bath, too. Clevedon Hall has gardens, terraces, a fountain, lawns, a gazebo… plenty to make sure you have the wedding of your dreams. Orchardleigh House & Estate is grand and luxurious, nestled in 500 acres of incredible grounds. And there’s Coombe Lodge, an immaculate country manor that is as stunning as it is elegant.
Outside of the city of Bath, Somerset really does have some lovely landscapes and countryside, which means it’s perfect for an outdoor celebration, especially during the warmer months of the year. If this sounds like something right up your street, take a look at venues including Elmhay Park, Heritage Parks and Parish’s House.
To make sure your wedding day is a little different and in keeping with your interests and passions, you could go with one of the many unique venues around the city. We couldn’t not include a venue centred on what makes Bath so famous, which is why you might want to choose the Roman Baths and Pump Room as your venue. Or there are The American Museum and Gardens and Victoria Art Gallery, where you can tie the knot surrounded by amazing artwork and artefacts.
While on average couples in Bath might pay a little more for their big day than others around the UK, there are still many lower-cost venues to consider in the area. Take a look at venues such as Court Farm Standerwick, The Hare & Hounds Hotel and Eastwood Park to see that you can still have a truly amazing wedding venue without the need for an enormous budget.
The average cost of a wedding venue in Bath and the surrounding South West region is £6,755, which is almost £1,000 more than the overall UK average of £5,945. Because Bath is a hugely popular wedding destination, venues tend to book up fast, and the average lead time is between 12 and 18 months. For a summer or weekend wedding, or a venue which is highly sought-after, you’ll likely need to book even further ahead – perhaps even two or more years.
If you’re open to being flexible, you’re likely to have a much easier time. If you’re okay to get married during the quieter winter season, or on a day in the middle of the week, then you may find you can secure a venue for as little as six months from now. On top of that, with less competition from other couples, you may find that you’ll pay a lot less – perfect if you’re on a budget.

That being said, each season is unique and offers couples its own special thing, which can help make your wedding day that little bit different.
Spring (March – May) is a great time to get married in Bath and is when Royal Victoria Park fills with life. The temperatures are usually around 10°C – 16°C (50°F – 61°F), which means you might just get away with spending some of your day outside. Just be aware that rain showers are possible, so make sure you choose a venue that lets you escape the elements should the heavens open.
Summer (June – August) is the season when most couples choose to get married in the city, thanks to longer daylight hours and temperatures reaching 18°C – 24°C (64°F – 75°F). It’s the best time for outdoor weddings at venues like Priston Mill and Wick Farm Bath, so make the most of it if you can!
Autumn (September – November) might be when it starts to get a little cooler and more drizzly, but the colours around the countryside and parks are worth it for amazing wedding photos. The temperatures are usually between 9°C – 18°C (48°F – 64°F), so you’ll want to go with a venue that has indoor space, such as at The Holburne Museum.

With temperatures around 3°C – 9°C (37°F – 48°F), indoor weddings are a must, like The Gainsborough Bath Spa and House of St John's, which can create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
