I'm always so impressed whenever I have a wedding at City Chambers – the staff are friendly across the board and care deeply about each couple who chooses to marry there, doing everything they can to make the day extra special for them. The courtyard is scenic for group photos and couples portraits. The City Chambers location, right on the Royal Mile, is very convenient for couples who then would like to continue the celebrations at one of the many nearby chic restaurants. I am an Edinburgh-based photographer and I work with City Chambers frequently. I'm always so impressed whenever I have a wedding at City Chambers – the staff are friendly across the board and care deeply about each couple who chooses to marry there, doing everything they can to make the day extra special for them. That said, the experience wasn’t without frustration. Despite giving the team every detail and resource well in advance, communication in the lead-up was inconsistent, and there were several mix-ups. The most disappointing moment came when the man at the front desk almost prevented us from attending our own ceremony because he didn’t know who we were — and later caused issues with the delivery of our wedding cake. In short, the day itself was wonderful thanks to the setting and the staff’s calm handling of problems, but the overall experience would have been far less stressful with clearer communication and better coordination.We held our wedding at Edinburgh City Chambers and overall had a lovely day. What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
The best personal touch I’ve seen at a wedding was the couple’s choice of personalized cocktails, each themed around significant events in their relationship. From a “First Date Fizz” to a “I Do Daquiri,” each drink told a unique story, adding a creative and meaningful element to the celebration while sparking conversation among guests.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
One of the best photo spots at our venue is undoubtedly the grand entrance, where the iconic City Chambers sign gracefully adorns the door. This striking feature provides a memorable and timeless backdrop, ideal for capturing stunning photographs that will be treasured for years to come. It has become particularly popular with couples, often serving as the perfect location for their exit as newlyweds, as well as for group photos with all their guests.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
While we have not yet had the pleasure of hosting a celebrity wedding, we are honoured to welcome many notable figures to the Chambers each year during the prestigious Edinburgh Award. Among the distinguished guests who have attended are renowned individuals such as Ewan McGregor.
What’s your favourite canapé?
Our on-site catering team provides an extensive selection of exquisite canapés, making it a delightful challenge to choose from such a refined array of options. Personally, I find their goat's cheese and caramelised onion en croûte particularly irresistible.
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Our in house catering make tasty bacon buns and more for the evening and our team can't get enough of them!
What is your venue's most unique feature?
Our most distinctive feature is undoubtedly the extraordinary dome ceiling, adorned with stained glass windows depicting all twelve zodiac signs. This remarkable architectural element was created to commemorate Edinburgh’s establishment of its own medical school, in contrast to the government-run institutions, during a period when the government controlled student admissions. The striking design of the dome offers an exceptional and captivating backdrop, perfectly suited for stunning photographs.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
The hardworking and dedicated staff at City Chambers are, without a doubt, the part of the business I am most proud of. Their commitment to excellence, attention to detail, and unwavering passion for creating exceptional experiences ensure that every wedding we host is a success, and their professionalism is the foundation of our reputation.
