The average cost of a wedding in the area is £18,617, which is over £2,000 less than couples across the UK pay on average. For some of the more popular venues, or dates during the busiest times, like summer and at weekends, this can be as high as two years. That’s why it’s important to secure your venue as far ahead as possible to avoid any disappointment.
You can bring this wait down to less than six months if you’re open to considering a wide variety of venue types, or you’re happy to get married midweek or during the winter. This is a great way to book a venue with less competition from other couples, and as venues often have off-peak deals, you’re likely to save some money, too.
Angus has a varied Scottish climate, with crisp winters, bright springs, warm summers and colourful autumns. Each season offers something different for your wedding day, making weddings a joy at any time of year.
Spring (March - May) sees the countryside come to life, with daffodils and cherry blossom filling the landscape with colour. Average highs range from 9°C to 13°C (48°F to 55°F), so venues in nature, like Piperdam Leisure Resort, make for a great choice.
Summer (June - August) offers the warmest weather, with average highs of 17°C to 19°C (63°F to 66°F). And as there’s up to 16 hours of daylight per day at the peak of summer, taking things outside with an al fresco wedding is a thing of beauty, which you can do at venues such as Charleton Farm.
Autumn (September - November) is a gorgeous time to get married in Angus, with oranges and browns across the glens, and a cosy, romantic atmosphere. Expect average highs of 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F) and a fair few drizzly spells.
Winter (December - February) tends to be quiet and peaceful and is perfect for intimate gatherings at indoor venues like Carnoustie Golf Hotel & Spa. Temperatures average around 4°C to 7°C (39°F to 45°F), and you might even catch some snow, which is something to bear in mind if your venue is based out in the sticks.
Despite much of Angus being fairly remote, it’s still relatively easy to get to by road, rail or air. The A90 runs through the region, linking directly to Dundee, Perth and Aberdeen. It’s under 90 minutes from Edinburgh by car and just over two hours from Glasgow, making it simple to get to from across Scotland.
For those travelling by train, stations in Arbroath, Montrose and Forfar connect to national routes via Dundee or Aberdeen. Montrose in particular is well served, with direct trains to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The closest airport is Dundee Airport (DND), which offers regular flights to London City. Aberdeen and Edinburgh Airports are also within easy reach, and both are around 90 minutes away.
