Ever since 1372, when Sir John Lyon brought his royal bride Joanna to Glamis, countless other royal figures have been enchanted by it’s romantic aura and setting. Among them were James VI of Scotland (James I of England) and Mary Queen of Scots. It was the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother and HRH The Princess Margaret was born here. The Queen Mother and King George VI—then the Duke and Duchess of York—spent their honeymoon at Glamis in 1923 and the summers of the interwar years with the young princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. From the moment you arrive down the mile long drive you experience the magic of Glamis against the backdrop of the Angus Glens. You will be greeted by the Castle piper and step inside this fascinating and historic building where you will experience the warmest of Scottish welcomes and hospitality. A visit to Glamis will remain a treasured memory for you and your guests long after the day. Glamis Castle boasts many beautiful locations and settings, both outside and indoors, for the wedding ceremony—whether religious or civil—the reception and wedding breakfast.
