The Old Ship is registered to hold civil wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships granted by the County Council. Our ceremony rooms can accommodate from 50 up to 120 guests and are charged separately than the packages as per the table below. Please remember that that you will need to contact the Registrar directly to arrange your preferred date and there would be a separate fee for the attendance of the registrar.
You can book the Registrar up to a year in advance and are required to give notice to the Registrar of the district. It is also worth noting that once the date is planned, couples will secure their preferred venue at the same time to ensure they can get the dates and venue they like

First of all, a huge thank you to Miriam who has supported us throughout the planning of our special event. She listened, offered suggestions and was very flexible when we wanted something a bit different. Thank you so much! Secondly, the food was incredible. All of our guests couldn't stop talking about how much they loved their meals. Thank you! a special shoutout for Stan - he did a great job! Finally, thank you to Zosia & Sonia who led the way on the day and helped us to make any minor adjustments that were needed. From the first time we met with you to discuss prices and options to our wedding day, we were always confident that we had picked the best place to hold our wedding reception. We were thoroughly impressed with the personalized and courteous attention given to us, a refreshing change from some of the other reception sites we had visited in the area. From the start, our questions were answered promptly and courteously and we were always treated like a top customer. Because of this treatment, we never once worried about how our reception would turn out with regards to food, staff and coordination. (As you know, myself and Luke had enough to worry about!) You all played significant roles in helping us set up such a flawless reception. Words cannot express how grateful we are for such wonderful service. Although we have been spreading the word to others about the great service and beautiful facilities...our guests all raved about the food and facilities and many have expressed how impressed they are with The Old Ship Hotel themselves! From the drinks reception and canapes, right through to the hearty meal, it was just perfect. As a vegan, I'm used to getting something that won't quite soak up the booze, but the substantial, and tasty meal was delicious - I couldn't even finish it I was so full! And it was a pleasant surprise to have a dessert that wasn't fruit salad. :-) The icing on the cake (so to speak) was getting a jug of almond milk brought over to me for my cup of tea, without even needing to ask for it. Little details like that really make a difference. Please pass on my thanks to all of the team - front of house, kitchen staff and others behind the scenes. This has been a difficult year of all of us, however on the 2nd of September 2020 my partner & I were married, we had the smallest of wedding ceremonies in the Registry Office of Brighton Town Hall, we were allowed one witness each to come inside with us, all others would have to stay socially distanced outside. We had asked only our closest of family and friends to come to Brighton to celebrate our marriage, all our guests stayed at The Old Ship hotel arriving in the afternoon and early evening on the day before the ceremony. Over the two days of our socially distanced and safe celebrations, the staff organised: safe greetings drinks on the front terrace the day our guests arrived, a delicious breakfast for all (including our vegan friends) on the morning before our ceremony and the day after for those who stayed two nights, a lovely afternoon tea and reception for all after our ceremony. The feed back we had from all our family and friends who stayed at The Old Ship included comments like: 'the rooms are spotlessly clean', 'the beds are really comfy and the linen smells lovely and fresh', 'the staff are so friendly and helpful', 'I/We felt safe as the Covid precautions in place were well organised and managed', We had an amazing time, I didn't realise Brighton is such a great city'.
