With endless features from huge inglenook fireplaces to ancient beams; linenfold doors to oak floors, The Pilgrims Rest is an historic gem. It even has ancient witch’s marks to ward off evil spirits and a secret tunnel that runs beneath the Abbey walls. Perfect for small weddings, intimate weddings and those a little larger, The Pilgrims Rest is a wedding venue with a difference. There are no hidden extras, no corkage charges and no fixed suppliers, giving you the choice to have a DIY wedding, a fully catered wedding or anything in between. The Pilgrims Rest is an exclusive use wedding venue run by our friendly and professional team who will guide you on the run up to, and on the day of, your wedding, ensuring your day runs seamlessly. A stunning backdrop for your wedding without the added expense of venue styling and prop hire. Professionally designed and styled to need little decoration, but one you can add to and make your own, every detail has been carefully considered creating a wedding venue that is beautiful yet relaxed; affordable yet aspirational. Quite simply a truly magical place to tie the knot. Far more than just a beautiful building; this grand old lady has historic soul. She has hosted celebrations from Medieval banquets to Georgian balls, Victorian luncheons to Edwardian tea dances. Over the centuries flagons of ale, goblets of wine and flutes of champagne have been consumed beneath her eaves, to the sounds of merriment and laughter flooding through her walls. Perfect for weddings all year round; during the warmer months and when the sun is shining - your guests can flood out into the pretty cottage gardens. Our Less is More hire option (up to 30 guests) £3250.00 weekdays / £4750.00 bank holidays (Saturdays available upon request). The Beyond the Moon hire option (up to 50 guests) £3650.00 weekdays / £5050.00 bank holidays (Saturdays available upon request). The Bells and Whistles hire option (50 daytime guests, an additional 40 for the evening) £5750.00 Saturdays & Bank Holidays / £4950.00 weekdays Here's what sets us apart: Exclusively yours. The whole venue is yours, and yours alone, for your day. No fixed suppliers. Bring your own caterer and suppliers, or choose from our tried-and-trusted local list No corkage, ever. Supply your own drinks, set up a Pimms or gin station, or hire a bar company. No hidden extras. Everything you see when you visit is included in the hire price. Fully furnished and styled. Vintage and antique pieces throughout, seasonal looks, and a free Aladdin's Cave of props so no need to hire in. Fires and Candles. There are inglenook fire places in the Webster Bar, the Great Hall and the Dining Room. We light the fires and provide the wood. Real candles are also allowed on the Dining Room tables. A professional, experienced and friendly team. Our wedding team is second to none. With a fountain of knowledge to help you on the run up to, and day of your wedding. Two dressing rooms. The Bryant and Fitzherbert dressing rooms sit on opposite sides of the Great Hall, so you can both get ready under one roof and still keep the surprise. Stunning backdrops. We knew we wanted to book Pilgrims Rest the moment we saw it. The history, the setting, the size, the location in Battle, it had everything we were looking for in a wedding venue. What we didn’t realise when we booked was that the team running it would turn out to be every bit as special as the building itself. Waverley and Amy are genuinely incredible. From the planning stages right through to the day itself, nothing was ever too much trouble.We knew we wanted to book Pilgrims Rest the moment we saw it. The history, the setting, the size, the location in Battle, it had everything we were looking for in a wedding venue. What we didn’t realise when we booked was that the team running it would turn out to be every bit as special as the building itself. Waverley and Amy are genuinely incredible. Amy and Waverley were truly the best wedding organisers to work with, from all the little details they helped with throughout the day to make it special. Their calm, positive and just lovely personalities put us completely at ease throughout the whole wedding planning process, I'm really going to miss our meetings and phone calls. They really kept the day running so smoothly for us which was such a relief. I hope we can return to the pilgrims rest again in the future! When we were researching wedding venues online, the Pilgrims Rest massively stood out to us, and this feeling only increased when we visited in person. It didn’t take long after we walked through the doors for us to both decide that this was where we would be getting married! It goes without saying that the venue is just magical. Such a special place to celebrate such a special event! The Pilgrims Rest team were so nice and so helpful - they absolutely got the balance right for our son, his fiancé, our joint family, and their marvellous friends. We really felt that for the day the venue was our very own special retreat. We were easily able to use the beautifully dressed space and facilities to create such a special and loving day, supported by the perfect and highly recommended celebrants, photographer, and caterers.Such a special place to celebrate such a special event! The Pilgrims Rest team were so nice and so helpful - they absolutely got the balance right for our son, his fiancé, our joint family, and their marvellous friends. We just knew it was perfect for usWe just knew it was perfect for us
We really struggled to find a venue that felt right for us as a pair of alternative, tattooed metal heads who didn't want a conventional wedding - everything is very white and shiny and over the top. But as soon as we found the Pilgrims Rest online we just knew it was perfect for us. Amy and Waverley were absolutely fantastic - Amy was our main point of contact, she was there the day before and the day of. We could not have been happier to have chosen The Pilgrims Rest as the venue for our big day. The building is full of history, classic and with character, just what we were looking for! The pictures taken in the getting ready rooms, great hall, and dining room are stunning and they supplied tables/chairs/cake stand, etc. The entire team at The Pilgrims Rest were extremely supportive and friendly during the entire process. The Pilgrims team ensured the day flowed extremely well!We could not have been happier to have chosen The Pilgrims Rest as the venue for our big day. The building is full of history, classic and with character, just what we were looking for! If you’re considering the pilgrims rest as a venue for your big day….DO IT! Do not hesitate!! It is honestly the most beautiful and special place, it just has the wow factor as soon as you step inside the gorgeous big wooden front door! It took our breath away and we booked at first sight! First venue we visited too and I am so glad we did! We opted for an Apres Ski themed winter wedding and it was spot on!!! If you’re considering the pilgrims rest as a venue for your big day….DO IT! Do not hesitate!! It is honestly the most beautiful and special place, it just has the wow factor as soon as you step inside the gorgeous big wooden front door! It’s hard to put into words just how incredible The Pilgrims Rest is. The venue is such a special, old building and the way it is always decorated so beautifully makes it look simply magical! My husband and I married here just a few weeks ago and it was the absolute perfect setting for a cosy winter wedding. But that’s just the beginning of it, because not only do you get this beautiful building but you also get the most wonderful staff that come with it. Waverley was an absolute delight.It’s hard to put into words just how incredible The Pilgrims Rest is. The venue is such a special, old building and the way it is always decorated so beautifully makes it look simply magical! My husband and I married here just a few weeks ago and it was the absolute perfect setting for a cosy winter wedding. But that’s just the beginning of it, because not only do you get this beautiful building but you also get the most wonderful staff that come with it. Waverley was an absolute delight.

We are right next to Battle Abbey behind the pretty rose garden - you can't miss us! There are plenty of hotels and B&Bs within walking distance of the venue - some with parking. The train station is about a 10 minute walk away which goes from Charing Cross and Tunbridge Wells in one direction and Hastings in the other. East Sussex has no motorways which is what makes it particularly beautiful. Take the A21 from the M25, go straight on and you will arrive in Battle. Turn left at the roundabout with King Harold's sculpture and when you see the gate house of Battle Abbey turn right. We are right next to it.
