Penshurst Place is quintessentially English – romantic, classic and elegant with a rural feel.
For nearly seven centuries this characterful home has played host to lavish entertaining, chivalrous acts and notable historic events. Today Penshurst Place, with its beautiful unique rooms, glorious gardens and exquisite hospitality, opens its doors to couples wishing to celebrate the start of their married lives together.
We understand that every couple is unique and every wedding individual. Our team of knowledgeable and attentive wedding co-ordinators can offer as much, or as little, guidance and inspiration as you require to make planning your wedding smooth, stress-free and exciting. Catering: just marvellous - from the tasting event through to the day itself, the team behind food and beverages just get it. We have had so many compliments on both the food and service. We are not easy people to please when it comes to dining, but we were thrilled with our wedding breakfast. Drinks service (super important) was professional and well organised. The care and attention to detail on this was second to none. Event organisation: flawless. As the bride, I didn't need to worry about anything at Penshurst. The team are calm, warm, knowledgeable and unflappable! They take the stress away and ensure everyone has a great time, whilst putting the bride and groom first in everything. One of the favourite parts of our wedding video is a short scene when our guests walk into the Baron's Hall for the first time - we can see them actually gasp! It's the wow factor we had hoped for. And on our wedding day it was everything we hoped for and more. What really impressed us was the service from the Penshurst team leading up to the wedding and on the wedding day itself. They made everything feel so effortless, we're accommodating, kind, and truly went above and beyond to make our day as special as it was. It is surreal to think back and we had such a special place all to ourselves for the day. Our guests had nothing but positive things to say about the beauty of the venue and the service of the catering staff. We wish we could live it all again! The team were all fantastic and so helpful. We had a great initial tour from Emily who gave us lots of helpful advice for wedding planning and answered all our questions. Our event coordinator was Caroline and she was simply amazing and responded really quickly to any questions we sent in to her. We did not feel stressed about the planning of the day and a lot of that was because we knew Caroline had everything in hand. Liz from hospitality was also amazing. Her team were super professional on the day and our guests all commented on how great the service of food and drinks was. The food was fantastic and several guests told us it was the best meal they’d ever had at a wedding. The Barons Hall looked incredible with the candles and fire in the evening. We had the best day!We are so happy we chose Penshurst Place as our wedding venue. The team were all fantastic and so helpful. Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
Too many to choose! We've hosted so many different weddings, all with their own quirks and features. Perhaps the best weddings though, are the ones where the couple disappear for a few moments away from their guests, their photographer, and their wedding party and we spot them sitting on a bench in the gardens just taking in the day and reflecting on their vows before re-joining everyone to celebrate. In the rush and excitement of your wedding day we always recommend taking a few moments away, just the two of you, to celebrate.
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Ask as many questions as you feel you need to be comfortable about your wedding. This is YOUR day and we are here to make sure that everything you're looking for comes to fruition. Don't be afraid to ask questions as often as you need to to ensure that on the day itself you feel stress-free .
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
Couples often put their most personal touches into their table plans, with tables named after important places in their lives, locations of dates, names of pets and even favourite sweets! It's always a pleasure to see our couples showcase their personality at their wedding.

Unique, characterful, flexible, historic and picture-perfect
Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
Too many to choose from! For large expansive shots, the Italian Garden with the house in the background is a must. Elsewhere Coronation Walk which is lined with beautiful old apple trees is a stunning spot for more rustic images.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
We couldn't possibly say... ( ;
What’s your favourite canapé?
A British classic - the little Roast beef Yorkshire puddings are divine!
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Our famous homemade sausage and vegetarian rolls, perfect for mid-party snack
What is your venue's most unique feature?
The medieval Baron's Hall. It was completed in 1341 and features an original 60 feet high chestnut-beamed roof.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
Our team. Outside of the immediate weddings team is a small collection of helpers from other departments who are just as passionate about weddings here as we are. Many of us married here ourselves and they all help out with getting the rooms ready for our couples if we need them.
