Cat Johnson was our wedding planner and we cannot thank her enough for all her hard work organising our day - she is a star ! The grounds were stunning and provided a sacred space in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city centre, despite the hotel being close enough to the station that access is incredibly easy. There was a perfect amount of space for the numbers we had, 80 seated and 130 in the evening. It felt full but not crowded. As for the honeymoon suite, its the kind of room you see in movies or royal households. Absolutely stunning and a great treat to be thrown in with the package. The food was excellent and many commented on it in particular. The staff were professional, helpful and made sure everything ran smoothly. What impressed me the most, a guest caused some accidental damage to a furniture and they wrote it off at their own expense, when they could have charged us. Thanks Cat for a great experience. I'm so glad this hotel decided to start a renewed focus on wedding events recently, its a great find.We recently used this venue for our wedding reception. The team at The Macdonald House Bath Spa Hotel rose to meet those challenges every step of the way. We started a year out from our date with a FaceTime tour of the property and venues with Event Manager Benice Hampton. When we made our first visit to the property we met with Camy Mitchell to get some of the specifics in place and finalize pricing. Camy provided us with a go to list of vendors (Celebrant, D.J., Cake, Photographer) to connect with for our event. We did Zoom call interviews and were really pleased with our final choices. About two months out from our Wedding Macdonald House added Cat Johnson to their team as a Wedding Specialist. Cat's detailed approach to the final planning stages was amazing. She managed last minute requests (rooms, meal selections, food allergies) seamlessly and insured that everything and everyone was in place for the Wedding Day. We had planned for an outdoor ceremony which involved special circular seating and floral arrangements in specific trees surrounding the ceremony. When Mother Nature intervened with heavy rains the morning of the Wedding, Cat implemented the back up plan she already had in place so that everything went seamlessly (even the floral arrangements were repositioned to the inside venues). We have had nothing but wonderful feedback from our friends and family who attended our wedding and The Macdonald House bath Spa Hotel has been front and center in that feedback. All of the staff from front desk to servers, bar tenders and Bell staff were absolutely Five Star. We very much look forward to return visits in our future England travels. Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
Every wedding here at the Bath Spa Hotel is unique and special, but one of the most memorable was a summer garden celebration where the couple held their ceremony on our lawn overlooking the landscaped grounds. Guests enjoyed champagne and a string quartet beneath the cedar trees before moving into the elegant ballroom, which had been styled with cascading flowers and candlelight.
The couple added personal touches throughout the day, handwritten notes at each place setting, a bespoke cocktail inspired by their first holiday together, and a late-night fire pit in the gardens with marshmallows. What really made it “the best” wasn’t just the setting or the details, but the atmosphere: everyone was so joyful, relaxed, and immersed in celebrating together. It perfectly showcased what we love most about weddings here; our beautiful spaces, exceptional food and service, and the chance to bring a couple’s personality and love story to life.
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
My number one tip is to focus on what really matters to you both as a couple, rather than trying to please everyone else. Weddings can quickly become overwhelming with so many opinions and options, but if you make decisions that reflect your personalities and priorities, the day will feel authentic and meaningful. Trust your suppliers and venue team to handle the details, your job is to enjoy the journey and soak up every moment!
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
One of my favorite personal touches I’ve seen at a wedding was when a couple created a “memory lane” walkway for their guests. As everyone moved from the ceremony into the drinks reception, the path was lined with framed photos of the couple through the years, from childhood snaps, to when they first met, holidays, and milestones with family and friends. Guests loved pausing to reminisce, and it really set such a warm, personal tone for the rest of the day.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
At the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel, the most popular photo spot is our beautiful, landscaped gardens with the Bath skyline in the background; it’s a truly breathtaking setting, especially at golden hour.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
We are respectful of all our guests, and if we had we wouldn't say as a wedding is about the people and not the status.
What’s your favourite canapé?
Tomato and mozzarella arancini, delicious!
