Starting with the good stuff, our wedding day was simply perfect. The venue is absolutely stunning, exactly the kind of rustic, outdoor beauty we wanted and the day went without a hitch. It was just stunning. The food was all incredible and the venue catered well to multiple dietary requirements with no issues. The onsite cottages were gorgeous and it was so lovely to have them to ourselves and family the night before the wedding as well as the night after. It was also amazing to have the glamping tents available which a few of our guests made use of. Truly a day we’ll remember and treasure forever.
Okay then the few niggly things. So much of our pre-wedding stress could have been avoided by the venue being more organised. Throughout our planning the venue were slow to reply to emails, with us often having to chase for responses after 2 weeks of silence which was frustrating when often organising other vendors depended on their responses. Also, despite us mentioning multiple times that I (the bride) am vegetarian over zoom calls and email, when we went to the venue for our food tasting, despite having requested to taste both a meat and veggie option, the venue had somehow forgotten and only made a meat course. The chef managed to quickly cook me up some halloumi but it wasn’t what we were meant to have on our wedding day and instead of the day being a nice thing, it left me worried that the venue would forget to cater for me and others with specific requirements on the day. This worry wasn’t alleviated by the fact that the day before the wedding, despite giving the venue a comprehensive spreadsheet of all guests’ dietary requirements, the chef asked us whether any guests had requirements, making it blatantly clear they hadn’t checked the spreadsheet 24 hours before. The food all turned out perfect in the end but the disorganisation made us really worried!
Perhaps the worst part was that the venue didn’t send us the final invoice until 4 days before the wedding and it was also completely wrong. We then had to go back and forth to try and correct it and the day before the wedding we ended up having to correct it ourselves and just send them the amount we thought was correct so we didn’t have to worry about transferring money on our actual wedding day. I can’t tell you how stressed this made us, when all we wanted to be thinking about the week before our wedding was what to pack. A lot of these issues stemmed from the main organiser we were dealing with just not being around enough. We found out at one point she has another full time job which explained a lot - even on our wedding day our vendors weren’t welcomed by anyone, and we weren’t welcomed by anyone the day before when we arrived and were shown to the cottages by a groundskeeper which was super weird. There was a technical hiccup on the day with our band struggling to use the venue’s PA system and the organiser just was nowhere to be found. A member of staff had to call her to come back. Once she arrived everything was fixed and went smoothly but I have no idea why she wasn’t around. The first time I saw her over the wedding weekend was when she brought the registrars to me 20 minutes before our ceremony so we’d spent the whole previous evening and wedding morning wondering where she was and whether everything was going to be okay.
In conclusion - a stunning venue that seems to deliver a great wedding flying by the seat of their pants, which made the whole experience more stressful in the lead up despite delivering a perfect day.Starting with the good stuff, our wedding day was simply perfect.
