Balcombe Place is a beautiful private country house wedding venue set within its own stunning grounds with breathtaking views of the South Downs and its own private drive. With its spacious interior and landscaped grounds, stylish décor and fantastic location, Balcombe Place is the perfect choice for couples looking for old-style country charm with something a little bit different.
The house can host traditional fairy tale weddings or wild eccentric parties – or a little of both! It is a truly flexible setting with no hard and fast rules, therefore is designed to become your home from home and down to you how you use the space. With a range of talented suppliers at your fingertips, a healthy dose of creativity and the support of the Balcombe Place team, you can create the day you’ve always dreamed of.
Balcombe Place has six stunning reception rooms, three of which are licensed for cilvil ceremonies. There is plenty of space within the formal gardens, all exclusively yours and ready for our style! Not only does this mean the gorgeous features can be your back drop but you can also play some croquet or even giant jenga on the lawn!
We are able to cater for numbers ranging 10 - 120 guests seated together in one room and space for up to 350 people for your reception or evening party. You can have 350 all day if you wish with the use of a marquee on the lawn.
When booking you will have full access to Balcombe’s very own Little Black Book of suppliers, including everything from talented caterers to entertainers and florists, equipping you with everything you need to design your perfect day within this spectacular space.
You will also benefit from the services of a Coordinator who will be on-hand to offer advice, help with planning and timings and generally offer that sometimes much-needed support. While you will have total flexibility to plan a day that is utterly unique to you, you won’t be left to organise it alone! Balcombe Place will offer

- JJamie & Louisa14/06/2023The perfect wedding venueThe perfect wedding venueIt’s difficult to find the superlatives to underline just how great Balcombe Place was for our wedding weekend at the end of April this year. It really delivered on absolutely every level possible and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue, for not only our big day but for the entire weekend. It genuinely made the whole experience extra special. First of all, a special thanks to our superb coordinator, Grace. From our first visit to the day itself, Grace was extremely friendly and professional. She was a constant source of calm and levelheadedness in guiding our decision making throughout the planning and on the day itself. She kept everything ticking in the background whilst keeping a low profile. The day went ahead without a hitch and that was in a large part thanks to her efforts and expert coordination! The house staff were super efficient, friendly and always happy to help. As for the time spent there outside of the actual wedding, the meals were absolutely superb, both plentiful and high quality. We particularly appreciated how flexible they were with our quite chaotic eating/living arrangements. As we were a group of 30 including 11 children between the ages of 2 and 12, things were quite manic at times with toys strewn all over the place. But the staff, Grace and owner Fo were all so patient and understanding. They went above and beyond to accommodate all of our needs and it contributed to all of the guests having such a great weekend. So much so, in fact, that one family member has gone so far as to say that it was one of the best weekends of their lives! The accommodation rooms were extremely comfortable and spacious with beautiful interior, each room having its own sense of individuality. As mentioned, our guests ranged from the age of 2 to 72, and all were equally comfortable and catered for! Finally, and probably most importantly, the grounds and house itself are truly quite breathtaking and make for an incredible backdrop and home for the day. The need for extra decoration is minimal thanks to the stunning architecture; from the grand wooden arches in the main hall to the show-stealing marble fireplace in the ceremony room. Quite frankly, it’s the perfect wedding venue. Thank you so much Grace, Fo and the whole Balcombe place team. You contributed so much to our big day and made it everything we’d ever hoped it would be and more. After so much covid related stress everything perfectly came together and we had the most beautiful, fun and romantic weekend with our close friends and family. The venue is perfect for small and large weddings (our was planned for 110-120 but ended up being 90 due to covid), there are function rooms for all occasions and the in house staff and catering is incredible, we truly felt so pampered while we stayed in the house. All 14 bedrooms are gorgeous (our guests LOVED them ) and the house and the grounds are a spectacular backdrop. Emma who runs Balcombe Place was incredibly helpful both during all stages of the planning (and panic!), helping us plan our wedding as we wanted it (making quite some tweaks from a traditional British wedding) as well as during the weekend ensuring all went smoothly. It had absolutely everything that we were looking for to host the most important day of our lives. From the perfect bedrooms to get ready in the morning, the stunning rooms for both the ceremony and wedding breakfast, to the gorgeous grounds which we just knew would be the perfect backdrop for our reception drinks and couple photos - Balcombe simply had it all! We have had so many compliments from all our guests at how wonderful the day was, and we want to thank you Emma and Grace so much for all the effort and energy you put into making the day a success. Emma, from the first day we met her was so friendly and welcoming, her knowledge, advice and positivity was inspiring and we knew that we were in the perfect hands for planning our big day. The support with postponing due the covid pandemic was much appreciated. Grace's energy and friendliness was just amazing and it really did feel like we had another friend by our sides willing us to have the best possible day. We initially viewed the venue prior to 2nd lockdown and Emma & Fo kindly allowed us to visit at very short notice before lockdown. It took our breath away from the first moment and we knew this was the venue. No other venues compared. The Balcombe Place package is so unique and every BP Bride will know but its just so magical staying in the house for the entire weekend. The BP Chef and all involved behind the scenes are all amazing and the food was epic throughout the weekend. Fo has restored this beautiful house and we just loved her personal family story with the house. Emma & Grace were the most amazing help throughout the process- they are absolutely wonderful & make the day run so smoothly. Everyone involved at Balcombe Place was amazing and we would strongly recommend BP for all brides if you want the most unique, exclusive & stunning house/grounds for your wedding weekend. We could not fault them- Emma & Grace were impeccably organised, communicated so effectively & made life so much easier in the wedding planning process. A key point for us when we were searching for the perfect wedding venue was that we wanted a house that was grand and characterful rather than stuffy and old. It’s a hard line to tread but Balcombe Place does it perfectly. If you’re looking to have a civil ceremony but still want the grandeur of a church, then this is the venue for you - the Drawing Room with the beautiful marble fireplace is stunning and created a real wow factor for our guests, especially with flowers adorning the top. We loved having the house for an entire weekend too, it meant that close family and friends could arrive on the Friday, settle in and truly enjoy the day on Saturday (and a good hangover-curing cooked breakfast on the Sunday!). The Music Room was perfect for our wedding breakfast and evening reception. With beautiful wood panelling, a tall ceiling and huge bay window, light streamed in during our speeches and it felt truly magical. It’s a sizeable room but also not overwhelmingly so, this meant that the breakfast still felt intimate and got the party going with everyone dancing together in the evening. We knew that by choosing a date in March we may have been subject to some miserable British weather, however we had a mini heatwave (19 degrees!) which absolutely made our day. We had drinks and canapes on the lawn and patio in brilliant sunshine. The team were fabulous at pivoting plans and shifting service from inside to out without batting an eye. We had our photographs in the grounds of Balcombe Place and made the most of the magnolia tree that came into blossom on the exact weekend of our wedding! Grace was such an incredible person to work with whilst planning our wedding at Balcombe Place. Her attention to detail and dedication to ensuring that our day was as perfect as it could be, both in the lead up and on the day itself, was wonderful. Her calming and joyful presence was perfect for wedding morning nerves and evening celebrations. It was a pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic and considered lady; she is a true testament to the team and to the bright future of Balcombe Place. We couldn’t imagine our wedding without her! Overall, Balcombe Place was the most magical venue for our wedding. Our wedding here, and whole experience with Balcombe Place, exceeded every hope and expectation we had for our day. Right from the beginning Emma and the team at BP were an absolute dream to deal with. They genuinely went above and beyond to make everything we wanted for our day happen with ease, and made the whole processes indescribably less stressful! With these guys' help I really didn't find the wedding planning process stressful or difficult. The house and grounds are absolutely stunning, and you really feel like it is yours and your guests' for the whole weekend. Shrimpy is a genius in the kitchen! All of our house meals were completely delicious to the point that all of our house guests were going up for seconds (and thirds)! Absolutely amazing accommodating one of my bridesmaids who has a lot of very sever allergies, and also some vegan and GF guests we had too. Emma, as she did the whole way through the year-and-a-bit run up to our wedding day, totally saved the day on so many different occasions when we were unsure about something or nervous. She coordinated with all of the suppliers and showed me and the bridal party what to do on the day, took care of all of the music and everything else! I had a million and one questions for Emma so regularly but never once were we made to feel like anything was too much trouble or a silly question, even though some definitely were! A huge number of our wedding guests commented that this was the best wedding they had ever been to, and the most beautiful venue. From our first meeting with Emma we knew we wouldn't find anywhere more perfect and despite them never hosting a wedding there before, it was clear that Emma would ensure everything went to plan in the run up and on the day itself. We had several visits in the months between booking and the day itself, bringing our family to see it for themselves, and each one made us more excited for our wedding day and showed us how the developments were progressing. Emma is a dream in communicating - it is rare to find someone as responsive as her and it made planning a wedding so much easier knowing I could send her all my questions and she would usually respond within a few hours. Emma made sure she knew every detail of the day in advance so she could run the day without a hitch and we have had so many people comment how smoothly everything ran, even with the thunderstorms forecast that turned into brilliant sunshine half an hour before our ceremony meaning our plans were going back and forth at the last minute.
