Built on the site of Warden Abbey, a monastery founded in the time of the Doomsday book, stands the former home of the Shuttleworth family.
A 5000 acre site in the heart of rural Bedfordshire, with rolling parkland vistas and steeped in compelling history, the Shuttleworth estate offers an extraordinary setting for weddings and celebrations all year round.
From smaller, more intimate ceremonies to opulent gatherings of up to 1000 guests, Shuttleworth has a choice of three stunning venues to make your day unique and memorable.
The House and Parkland offer an unrivalled wedding experience. Take use of the Jacobean-style country house and choose between an array of grand rooms to hold your ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception. Suitable for ceremonies for up to 200 guests and seated dinners for up to 150 guests. Additionally, The Summer House, set within a sunken garden makes for a charming, idyllic outdoor ceremony venue. Finally, the abundance of mature parkland is ideal if you wish to build a marquee or tipi.
For a magical, serene affair The Swiss Garden, designed in the late Regency era, is a rare example of period landscape design. Within the garden, surrounded by beautifully manicured lawns, are two licenced venues for wedding ceremonies: The Swiss Cottage and The Grotto & Fernery.
The Collection’s Hangar 3 is a thrilling venue to host your day. With tables peppered around masterpieces of aviation and automotive history, this unique space lends itself to a stylish ‘vintage’ celebration.
As a multi-venue property, Shuttleworth offers the opportunity to host your ceremony and your reception in more than one location.
All weddings at Shuttleworth are offered with the close assistance of an experienced wedding planner, to assist in the lead up to and during the wedding - this is complimentary to ensure excellence of service.

At the heart of it is the stunning country house, with so many beautiful rooms that you can completely transform the flow of your day. We loved being able to have an intimate wedding breakfast, a bigger evening celebration, and then a late-night party, all in different spaces that each had their own atmosphere. And then there are the grounds. The estate stretches across hundreds of acres of rolling countryside, lakes, and ponds, making it feel like you've escaped into your own little world for the weekend. Everywhere you turn there's another gorgeous backdrop for photos. The Swiss Garden was one of my absolute favourite spots – it's straight out of a fairytale, with peacocks wandering around, ornamental bridges, historic buildings, and, of course, the perfect staircase for those iconic dress-train photos. If you're dreaming of a church wedding, St Leonard's Church is just magical. It's over 1,000 years old and full of character, with beautiful stained-glass windows and incredible historic details. The walk between the church and the house feels like something from a quintessential English village scene, passing a cricket pitch, a thatched cottage, and peaceful paddocks along the way. One of the things that makes Shuttleworth so unique is the Shuttleworth Collection itself. Having access to vintage aircraft, classic vehicles, and so much living history adds something really special to the experience. We arrived back from the church in one of the vintage cars, and our guests absolutely loved travelling to and from the museum on a vintage bus. Combined with garden games on the lawn behind the house, there genuinely was something for everyone to enjoy. Shuttleworth also provides a wedding planner to help coordinate everything, which is invaluable because there are so many amazing options. Since you hire the whole house, you get complete freedom to decide where every part of your celebration takes place. That flexibility is incredible, but it definitely rewards planning ahead, especially when deciding on catering arrangements and making sure your date doesn't coincide with one of the estate's larger events (unless having an airshow as part of your wedding sounds like your thing!). If I had one piece of advice, it would be to consider making a whole weekend of it. There is so much to enjoy that two days almost feels ideal, giving you more time to soak everything in and making the end of the celebrations feel far less rushed. The on-site accommodation makes this really easy, especially the gorgeous self-contained apartment within the main house. Not only is it a beautiful building but they work very hard to ensure that the history of Shuttleworth is preserved and to conserve the building and furnishings. It also feels as though it's your home-away-from-home for the day- if you hire the entire House- because you're free to choose how to use the rooms and have full access, which was perfect for having quiet zones etc. or places for children to play. Georgia is such a joy to work with, she really put me at ease for our wedding planning, she is very attentive and remembered all the little details that were important to us l. We also were fortunate to work with Steph who I met when we first looked round Shuttleworth. Steph is so lovely and was great at showing us on the day the best places for photographs. We were so fortunate to get beautiful weather on the day. The Swiss gardens were we had our ceremony is truly such a beautiful venue. I really did feel like I was in a fairytale. Cannot recommend Shuttleworth enough. Georgia is such a joy to work with, she really put me at ease for our wedding planning, she is very attentive and remembered all the little details that were important to us l. The calmness on the day was amazing with Georgia's oversight on every aspect of catering, cake and flower deliveries, as well as orchestrating the whole event, even putting on our button holes. The venue was simply beautiful with superb grounds for photo's, but my husband and I can honestly not praise Georgia enough for all the support leading up to our special day and her commitment on the day to make it a truly amazing experience with a real wow factor.Our wedding day was even more than we had expected. The calmness on the day was amazing with Georgia's oversight on every aspect of catering, cake and flower deliveries, as well as orchestrating the whole event, even putting on our button holes. Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
Everywhere, the grounds truly are a photographers' paradise. Whether you are having photos with our spitfire, within The Swiss Gardens by the bridges, or on the grand staircase at The House or within the gardens as the sun sets for golden hour. There are so many possibilities.

What is your venue's most unique feature?
It's hard to pick just one but we would have to say The Swiss Gardens are truly magical and we call them Bedfordshire's hidden gem.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
The unique offering within The Collection, everything you see there still flies. We have the oldest aircraft in the world plus running spitfires and also a hurricane.
