The Oak Barn is a beautiful wedding venue in Devon situated within beautiful rural surroundings, with endless photo opportunities.
We are an exclusive use weekend wedding venue. We are 'venue only' so couples can organise a unique wedding with the suppliers of your choice (though we are happy to make recommendations). We are on site throughout to give advice and assistance if needed. Weddings here tend to be family orientated and are relaxed and happy affairs.

From start to finish, Katharine and John were absolutely fantastic. Their support and guidance throughout the entire planning process helped make our day truly perfect. Nothing was ever too much trouble - they went above and beyond to accommodate all our wishes and their attention to detail really shone through. The venue itself is stunning and the gardens in early summer were in full bloom - an absolute dream for our photos! It’s clear how much love and care they put into maintaining the space. We genuinely couldn’t have picked a better venue. It is a DIY venue so you can really decorate it exactly how you'd like. Katharine and John were very helpful and made sure things ran smoothly on the day. The accommodation on site is an added bonus, all of the rooms are lovely. 100% would recommend The Oak Barn.We knew The Oak Barn was the perfect venue for us; the gardens are stunning when in full bloom, the main barn is authentic and thoughtfully decorated, and the patio serves as a perfect canape spot. The grounds and gardens at the Oak Barn looked amazing and really stunned our guests with how charming and romantic they were. We chose the venue for its authenticity - it didn't feel contrived and the setting reflected our love of Devon and the outdoors. The venue, both inside and out, is impressive yet homely with just the right amount of luxury without feeling out of place. A significant deciding factor when choosing the Oak Barn was Katharine and John's obvious care and passion for their vocations. We visited several times throughout the year before to run through our ideas for the day and to pose annoying questions. Katharine was so accommodating and welcoming during this - her calmness but subtle excitement made us feel totally at ease and positive about the day. The whole process felt the opposite of transactional, we felt right at home. We stayed for two nights, with roughly 25 guests - and made use of the facilities to cater for 30 of us on the night before the big day. The accommodation is lovely, and caters for everybody (children, accessibility, etc). There's flexibility with where people can sleep which was helpful when planning. We worked through last minute arrangements the day before when the weather changed. Katharine and John helped us adjust our plans and directed our suppliers accordingly. They clearly cared that we had the best day we could and went out of their way to ensure this. It went so smoothly we couldn't believe it. Having been to dozens of friends' weddings we have not heard of other venues where the hosts have been so understanding, supportive, and hard working. As a wedding photographer, there are many things that make a wedding venue awesome, and the main one for me is the ability for the wedding to be done the couple's way. They even let my husband wash glasses in the farmhouse as the caterer was using the kitchen. Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
It's impossible for me to pick a favourite, each wedding held here is so unique and meaningful to the couple. Every celebration is filled with its own beautiful moments and personal touches that reflect the love and personality of the people involved.
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
My number one tip is to prioritise your venue and the experience it provides. We aim for the venue to set the stage for the entire day, so choosing a place that truly resonates with you as a couple is key. Consider how the space makes you feel, our flexibility in accommodating your vision, and how well we align with your overall wedding theme and vibe.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
One of my favourite personal touches I've seen at a wedding was homemade pom-pom confetti. It was such a simple, yet creative gesture, and it really added a fun element to the celebration. The couple had spent time crafting these colourful pom-poms themselves, and when they were tossed after the ceremony it created an amazing photo!

What is your venue's most unique feature?
One of the best features of our venue is our exclusive onsite accommodation that can host up to 30 guests. This allows couples and their loved ones to fully immerse themselves in the wedding experience without the need to worry about transportation or finding nearby lodging.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
The wedding venue provides funds for nature conservation work on the farm and by holding your wedding at The Oak Barn you are helping support and sustain rare (and often declining) wildlife. There are three County Wildlife Sites on the farm, including ancient woodland, marsh and areas important for moths and butterflies. We manage the land to benefit wildlife and have created a mosaic of woods, hedges and flower rich meadows.
