FAQs

Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?

This lovely couple welcomed 90 guests for their daytime celebration and 120 for the evening reception. Every detail was thoughtfully crafted – from hand-marbled candles to bunches of Gypsophila they’d dried themselves. Seeing their vision come to life after more than a year of planning was truly special for all of us.

A particularly touching moment came as they stood hand in hand, waiting to be announced into their reception – we’ll admit, a few of us had tears in our eyes! It was such a joy to organise and host their day. The food was exceptional, the team worked seamlessly, and the atmosphere was filled with love and laughter from start to finish.

What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Remember, it’s your day, not a performance. Choose what feels right for you both, not what you think you ‘should’ do. Spend the day with the people you love most – even if that means sneaking away during Welcome Drinks with a bottle of bubbly and a plate of canapés to share a quiet moment with your partner or bridesmaids.

And my bonus tip? Always pack a spare shirt and shoes!

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

My favourite personal touches are always the ones that feel truly ‘authentically them’. At The County Arms, small gestures really shine in our elegant spaces – a seating plan displayed on an antique mirror looks stunning and doubles as a keepsake, while celebrating guests with thoughtful surprises, like a little box of chocolates for a birthday or a mini bottle of bubbly for an anniversary, makes everyone feel truly special. It’s these details that create unforgettable memories.

Describe your venue in 5 adjectives.

Refined, fun, welcoming, charming, timeless.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

The Library features its original fireplace, providing a stunning and timeless backdrop – perfect for elegant couple shots.

Our decking area is ideal for group photos, and photographers are welcome to use the first-floor window to capture a unique overhead perspective of your guests gathered below.

Being a traditional pub, our grand bar offers a fantastic setting for relaxed, candid photos full of character and charm.

And with The County Arms right on Wandsworth Common, there are plenty of outdoor opportunities for natural, memorable shots.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

Yes! But I'm not at liability to discuss whom...

What’s your favourite canapé?

It’s hard to choose, honestly – they’re all fantastic and really help create a sense of occasion. Our savoury canapés are always a hit during Welcome Drinks, but this year our trio of sweet canapés has been just as popular. They’re a lovely way to carry the celebration through the final room turnover as guests get ready for the evening event.

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Our late-night bites are always a hit with guests!

From hearty Cumberland sausage or smoked bacon baps, to grilled flat mushroom baps for our vegan friends, there’s something for everyone.

We also serve classic sausage rolls with English mustard and cider-battered haddock baps with tartare sauce – perfect for refuelling after dancing the night away.

What is your venue's most unique feature?

The pub was originally built in 1852 and has aged beautifully over the years. It retains many of its grand historic features, complemented by modern touches, creating a space that matures like a fine wine. I especially love the light in The Belvedere Room, the original fireplaces, and the sophisticated pub details – it truly feels like a home away from home.

The pub is such a special space that many couples choose not to add too many decorations, feeling it speaks for itself perfectly!

What part of your business are you most proud of?

Our team!

We’re incredibly proud of our exceptional team at The County Arms, and we’re fortunate to have held the same management team for over two years, alongside many familiar faces from the pub – including university students who return every holiday season. We receive endless compliments on their genuine enthusiasm and friendliness. Everyone genuinely wants each celebration to be as special as possible, and it’s this dedication that makes our events so memorable.
