Nestled in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside near the village of Throcking, Milling Barn is a romantic and refined barn wedding venue full of rustic charm and historic character. This stunning 17th-century oak barn blends timeless elegance with original features such as exposed beams, high ceilings, and soft ambient lighting. The space is bathed in natural daylight by day and transforms into an atmospheric setting for dining and dancing by night. Milling Barn offers couples a relaxed yet breathtaking backdrop for their special day, complete with countryside views, a charming patio, and space to celebrate from ceremony to last dance.
Facilities and Capacity
Milling Barn can host up to 144 daytime guests for your ceremony and wedding breakfast, and welcome up to 250 evening guests to continue the celebration into the night. The venue includes three beautiful and versatile spaces: the Oak Barn, ideal for romantic ceremonies; the spacious Milling Barn for dining and dancing; and the charming Dairy Barn, perfect for drinks, mingling, or additional seating. A private dressing room is available on-site, giving you and your party a relaxing space to get ready. Each barn is equipped with a fully licensed bar, and you are free to add your own personal style with decorations throughout. With exclusive use and a seamless flow from vows to celebration, Milling Barn offers everything you need for a truly unforgettable day.

With exclusive use of the venue, planning support, and on-site accommodation, you can enjoy your day in total comfort. All food is chef-prepared on-site, with a range of menus to suit every style and season. To enhance your day, a wide selection of extras and hire items are available. From styled table décor, indoor and outdoor props, and LED strip lighting, to neon signs, garden games, and our fun Selfie Photo Station. You can also opt for in-house DJ and lighting packages, designed to transform the space from day to night. From our first visit to our last dance we felt relaxed, looked after and happy. Lauren checked in with both of us all day and checked if we needed anything and if there was anything she could help with. We had a guest taken ill during dinner and the whole team helped to make sure he was looked after and took him somewhere quiet to rest and still made sure he ate as well as being attentive to all the other guests that were still enjoying dinner- food was incredible, all the dietary requirements were cared to and everyone was left happy. When it came time for Lauren to head home she introduced us to Grace who did a great job looking after us and all of our guests into the evening. Incredible venue, amazing attentive staff and all of our guests agree Such an amazing venue with staff that really care. The minute we viewed Milling Barn we knew it was the venue for us, with the lovely rooms full of beams and fairy lights and the grounds with views of the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. One of the things we loved about this venue was you could decorate it as much or a little as you wanted and it still looked pretty. The dressing room was the perfect size for myself and my bridesmaid to get ready, we also ordered some Prosecco and orange juice for the morning, which was chilling as we arrived. Niamh and Lauren have been brilliant through the whole process, communication was really clear and we knew exactly what needed to be paid and when, all pricing was transparent. On the wedding day we did not need to worry about anything as Lauren had everything covered ensuring the day run smoothly and our friend who was our MC knew what he was doing and when so myself and my husband could just enjoy our special day. The most magical day!Lauren, Rosie and the WHOLE team at The Milling Barn could not have done more to make our day the most amazing, magical, wonderful experience that it was! Nothing was too much and they went above and beyond to make our dreams come true! Right from the beginning they made us feel reassured everything was in hand, on the day they were so attentive, we had everything we needed and more! Our dog was also looked after, they bought her a water bowl! The accommodation is comfortable and clean, the meal was amazing, I also love that they made sure we got drinks and canapés, we were doted on, made to feel very comfortable and special, thank you for all your hard work and for making sure we had a magical day! The venue itself is stunning, with both indoor and outdoor areas to host guests, negating the need to be worried about the weather! The team that are work here are so helpful and friendly. Aimie was so great at answering all my questions during the build up, and on the day Rachel was simply amazing, making sure everything ran smoothly (and making sure we always had a drink in our hand!). Many people commented how great Rachel was, so a big thank you! The food was absolutely delicious, and again our guests commented that it was the best roast beef they've had in a long time! There is nothing to fault - would 100% recommend! We had the most incredible wedding day at Milling Barn. It was an absolute dream getting married there and we could not recommend it enough to others that want a truly magical and effortless wedding! From our first meeting with Aimie, our wedding planner, we found everything to be so easy with them Nothing was too much for us to ask for during those planning meetings and any questions we had were never any problems. On the day itself all of the staff were amazing. From the chefs, to the waiters, to the bar staff they all worked so hard. As my wife put it, we barely noticed them because it all ran so seemingly and effortlessly. Every single one of them deserves high praise. And the venue itself is beautiful. We fell in love with it from the moment we arrived . On our wedding day so many of our guests said how beautiful and amazing the venue was. If we could, we'd like to personally thank ever member of staff who worked during our wedding day, not also forgetting the staff who cooked and served us breakfast the next day. Thank you all.
