Description

THE HOVELS AT HAREWOOD "A small squalid dwelling" is the literal definition. Originally built in the late 18th century, designed by Robert Carr, the same architect who designed nearby Harewood House, it was initially used as accommodation for Harewood Estate workers. The second building was added a couple of decades later and used as a stable block for horses. Later, it was used as a shooting lodge, then a classroom and now an event space. Following the success of our pop/up supper club series, "Dining Room at the Hovels" (we’ve a few coming up which would give you a feel for the space when full- I can send you details if you’re interested). In 2019 it underwent a full refurb - we connected the two buildings together with a glass atrium and added in a commercial kitchen, bar, WC facilities and attained a marriage ceremony license. We also added a biomass plant; so, all hot water and heating is generated sustainably using wood chip sourced from Estate woodland thinnings. Fast forward to today and you'll find a Grade 1 listed, fully equipped event space with everything you need for your perfect day. It's come a long way since it's humble beginnings, but to us it will always be the Hovels. The inside of the building can seat up to 80 diners, if you wanted more, we work with marquee hire companies which can be put up in the field to the south of the building. The venue hire fee for the Hovels is £4000 including VAT. This includes the day of the event itself, the day before for set-up and the day afterwards for breakdown.

The Harewood Food & Drink Project use produce sourced from the Harewood Estate, wherever possible, on our menus. So, expect food that’s grown, reared and foraged at Harewood to feature heavily. This means seasonal eating is at the forefront of our menus and some items may be subject to seasonal availability. We’ll also, wherever possible, utilise seasonal produce by switching out certain items to ensure we’re making the most of Harewood’s incredible produce whilst keeping the food miles to a minimum. What we can’t source from our farm, Walled Garden and land, we work with the best local independent suppliers who share our ethos of keeping food miles to a minimum.

You made the whole experience feel so easy and stress free and you organised everything with so much detail and care. We got married at the hovels September 2025 and it was the best decision we made. The hovels itself is the perfect venue, it has a lovely cosy feel and was perfect for the amount of people we had! Josh and the staff were absolutely flawless. Josh has helped us on our journey from the start from booking the venue, food tasting to just making everything flow amazingly on the day. The waiting staff were superb, seemed like they were endlessly searching us out to make sure we had canapes. Felt like we had a hundred between us. Had so many compliments from guests on the attentiveness of staff throughout the day and how friendly they were. So a big thank you from us, made the day that much better. Food was rubbish, just kidding. It was beyond what we hoped for – from the canapes through to the wedding breakfast it was all superb. I'm even tearing up again as we write this... you were, just, amazing. The whole way through the planning, you just said yes to everything and made a plan, it felt so chilled but still so organised & you really made us feel special every time we arrived. We asked for an outdoor ceremony that had never been done before - and somehow we pulled it off!! On the day, you were more than an events planner, or a wedding planner - you were part of our family and so many people commented I'm even tearing up again as we write this... you were, just, amazing. From our intimate tasting evening with yourself and Will (we were not expecting to have the place all to ourself!), to our meetings with yourself during the planning phase and the day itself. The day was perfect thanks to the team. Despite how hot you all must have been it went so smoothly! We could see all the hard work going on but you seemed so organised, calm and ready for any tiny last minute changes. Even remembering the tiny details like limoncello shots for us whilst we hid away! The guests positive feedback we’ve had on the venue, staff, food and drink, is never-ending. Also, Emma’s family were so comfortable that their food was completely safe to eat being GF The day was perfect thanks to the team. Despite how hot you all must have been it went so smoothly! The Hovels is really special, it's cosy but airy, secluded but accessible, and classic but friendly. We've loved every part of our journey leading up to, and including the day, and we have to say the biggest thanks to Josh - who is professional but approachable, and so thoughtful in the things you sent and thought of. We had an experience going through this of not having a clue with it being our first wedding we really felt like you allowed us to make our own decisions whilst offering advice.
