Description
We are hosting a wedding fair January 24th 11am-3pm, where you can have a tour of our venue and see what our amazing, preferred vendors have to offer! Our talented catering team will also be providing complimentary canapes and sparkling.
The magnificent Tudor Old Palace, built in 1485, was the childhood home of Elizabeth I and where she held her first Council of State. It is one of the foremost examples of mediaeval brickwork in the country, and with its original wood beams, your guests will be surrounded in history. The stunning and open Knot Garden is attached to the Old Palace and provides the most picturesque wedding photos. The Raised Lawn is perfect for outdoor blessings, drinks receptions, and lawn games, with breath-taking views of Hatfield House. The Old Palace can accommodate large weddings on long or round banqueting tables, and space for a DJ and dancefloor. Our large bar is attached to the room and is the perfect space to add additional entertainment such as photobooths. The Riding School blends historic features with modern architecture to offer a contemporary alternative. Located in the Stable Yard, its origin was to accommodate the horses and families motor cars. In 2010 the Riding School was transformed into what it is today. Its glass roof allows the room to be flooded with natural daylight, and the mezzanine level adds versatile characteristics to this venue. The Riding School can also be hired out in conjunction with the Old Palace. The Old Palace and Riding School are licensed for civil ceremonies, have ample free parking and direct train links with Hatfield Station adjacent to Hatfield Park. Hatfield House is a renowned filming location for blockbuster hits such as Lara Croft, Batman Begins, and Harry Potter and Netflix productions such as The Crown and Bridgerton.

- EEmily and Will19/10/2025Beautiful venue Beautiful venueThe old palace at was perfect inside and out, the day was made so much less stressful as Monika was so helpful, proactive and quick thinking. When issues arose e.g I didn’t like my bouquet the florist delivered on the day, Monika made me one herself from the flowers on the tables! The tables were decorated beautifully and the flowers were in full bloom in the gardens on our August wedding day. There were some small issues later in the evening such as it was difficult to find someone to help turn off the background music for the speeches in the evening and the cake was placed against the wall so we had to pull the table away from the wall to cut the cake (without having our backs to our guests) but these were minor things that happened after Monika had finished her shift for the day! The history of Hatfield has great significance to me so I wouldn't have wanted our reception to be anywhere else. However, the management of the venue changed hands during our wedding planning process and at first we had a coordinator that replied quickly and was very helpful - although did overpromise on certain points - but once she left and we were handed over to the new company, the communication was terrible. I would send emails and not ever get a reply particularly on key points like booking our food tasting - in the end I had to call up Hatfield several times to organise it. For the amount on money we spent on the venue, you really do expect more. Food was good but not outstanding.
