At Badgers Holt, the River Dart runs through the grounds of this former fishing lodge, set against rugged moorland and granite tors. The venue offers a range of rustic, versatile indoor and outdoor spaces, already beautifully styled with warm lighting and simple decor — though couples are welcome to add their own personal touches.
Take your vows in the Riverside Garden Room, a bright, blank canvas; the cosy Banquet Fireside Room with its roaring wood burner; or the garden bandstand right at the water’s edge.
Step out onto the wild, tor-strewn moorland for dramatic photos and quiet moments before returning to celebrate under festoon lights and around the firepit by the river. Whatever the weather, you and your guests can enjoy both comfortable indoor spaces and beautiful outdoor settings. When the day winds down, retreat to one of our cosy apartments.

In the run up to our wedding day, Emma was on hand to answer all of our questions and dicuss ideas with us. She suggested suppliers who were all fantastic to work with and offered an amazing service (this included, caterers, photographer, florist and a band). On our wedding day her and her team made the day run smoothly and Emma went above and beyond to ensure we had the best day of our lives and that our guests had a great time. We highly recommend Emma and Badgers Holt and we will be forever grateful to her for making our day to special. Everyone we speak to or get messages from say how great the day was but also rave about the venue, the setting and the weather! I have had 3 people say they wished their son/daughter got married there and a couple more put it on the list for when their kids are ready to get married. That is testament to you all, not just for what a great venue you have.Thank you all so much for what was the most incredible day! The venue itself is absolutely stunning right next to the river with a rustic /woodland feel about it, which was exactly what I was after. Location wise it's in the middle of the moors so there are some great opportunities for some fantastic photos. Emma and her team were fabulous and really made the day that extra special for us, nothing was too much to ask. They were all very friendly and welcoming and helped to keep myself (bride) relaxed and calm on the big day. I can't recommend and thank Emma and her team enough for making our day as truly special as it was.I had my wedding at Badgers Holt in Dartmeet. If we could get married all over again, we would do it the exact same way. It was also clear that the team love what they do, and are concerned most of all with getting you just what you want for your wedding day. After searching for wedding venues I came across this venue and knew the location so started to get excited. On speaking to Emma I knew I needed to wait for restrictions to change so we could view the venue and as I thought it was perfect. Emma’s attention to detail, reassurance and help was amazing and nothing was too much from day one- we managed to book our photographer through Emma and had the florist we were hoping for all from attending the open event. Every time I spoke or heard from Emma I felt relaxed and looked after. The day arrived and wow I was blown away with all the little touches and surprises and immediately felt like a queen. Emma and Bez went above and beyond with the most amazing hospitality and relaxed approach but one which was so attentive. My guests, family and friends have all shared stories of how amazing not only the day was but the venue and owners and I agree and am still in the most perfect bubble ever. The food also was amazing and everything I could ask for and we was so well looked after in so many ways you would not believe. My perfect day was made a reality and I’m so grateful and will be enjoying the venue for many more years to come. Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
All of them! We genuinely love that each Wedding is unique here. Just some of the stand out's would be:
- river dips
- shanty singing by the river
- chilled street food / food trucks
- ceildh and brass band parades down to the old clapper bridge and around the grounds
- wild, wet and windy days .... I know but with it comes a real moody 'Wuthering Heights' romantic feel and the river hypnotising.
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Have a wet weather plan even in Summer - as a Venue we can help with this. Some of the most stunning weddings here have been on rainy days so don't let the weather spoil your day, embrace it.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
Hand carved pumpkins and candles, flower jar wall, home dried scented autumnal leaves - there are so many and each couples bring their own touches which is key to us and one of the things we love

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
On the Dartmoor granite rocks in the river of course!
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
No - we are not really into 'celebrities' we love down to earth couples
What’s your favourite canapé?
Nothing too fussy - good hearty homemade food
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Cheese and crackers - maybe with a small port!
What is your venue's most unique feature?
Location, location, location - right in the very heart of rugged Dartmoor right on the River Dart
What part of your business are you most proud of?
Keeping the Venue sympathetic to its surroundings, using natural materials where we can and doing everything we can to make our couples day unique to them.
