Winton Castle is a wedding venue steeped in history that blends the grandeur of a Castle with the intimacy of a family home. We fondly call this ‘intimacy on a grand scale’. Our romantic Scottish Renaissance castle is a hidden gem surrounded by mature gardens, deep in tranquil East Lothian countryside, just half an hour from Edinburgh city centre and the international airport. As an exclusive use events venue, the castle and its gardens are all yours for the duration of your own castle wedding. Unlike a hotel, this guarantees that your celebration is uninterrupted by other events. By limiting the number of weddings held here each year, we ensure that Winton Castle is still something of a well kept secret. It also ensures that you receive the very best attention from start to finish. We still have some limited availability for Winter 2025, but are now mostly taking bookings for 2026 and our diary is open for 2027.
Winton Castle offers Wedding Visits & Virtual Tours. You can visit Winton in person, or arrange a guided virtual 3D-Tour over Zoom, while discussing your wedding plans. Call or email us to book your tour. Here at Winton we are ready and waiting to help you start planning one of the best days of your life, whether you are looking for a fully bespoke wedding, or a tried and tested wedding package. We have low season rates that can save you at least £2,000 over January and February. Our team has more than 20 years of experience planning and hosting weddings and we would love yours to be our next one! By limiting the number of weddings held here each year, we ensure that Winton Castle is still something of a well-kept secret. Additional accommodation available within our three self-catering country houses, all within a 5-minute drive of the Castle itself, sleeping an additional 36 guests.
Winton Castle can welcome up to 100 guests within the Dining room for the Wedding breakfast . Should the guest list be larger, a Marquee can be arranged (Fee applies) for guest numbers between 100 and 250.

The first impression of Winton Estate upon arriving is that none of the pictures and videos we saw did it justice. We were rendered speechless as we first stepped foot inside the marvelous Castle. While the Castle speaks for itself, the real gemstone of Winton is the staff that they have managed to assemble. The amount of help that we received while planning our wedding there made it as effortless as planning a wedding could possibly be. Huge shoutout to Rae McGonigle for being so helpful every step of the way. Trying to plan a destination wedding can be so stressful, but Rae gave us so many phenomenal suggestions. Our wedding day included so many events from the morning until the end of the night. Our morning started with Highland Games. All the staff that helped with the Games brought so much energy to the event that it was impossible not to have a great time. The wedding ceremony inside the Castle was beautiful! The staff members were all so helpful across every aspect of getting ready and down the aisle. After the wedding, it was right into cocktail hour and again the staff and the caterers were so on top of it. All of the guests were so impressed by how fluid the whole day felt. The hall for dinner was decorated with such class and elegance for the wedding breakfast. The food was served in such a way that it felt almost choreographed. The room was then cleaned and set up for dancing before we knew it. In the meantime, Ken had a whisky tasting set up in the cellar that the guests had a blast taking part in. The staff was so attentive to everyone’s needs, checking in at just the right times to help everything go seamlessly and keep everything on track. The next morning, the staff had a delicious breakfast buffet ready for us as we woke up where Sir Francis Ogilvy took time out of his day to stop by and congratulate us on our nuptials. Even after we left Winton Estate, Rae and the staff helped with all post-event questions. It truly was a day that we, and our guests, will never forget. Winton Castle is an beautiful & historic venue, and the huge benefit of having an onsite coordinator who knows the venue & various suppliers (caterers, bands etc.) intimately cannot be overstated. From initial enquiry through to a brilliant wedding, everything was easy and seamless to organise. We decided to hire the castle for the weekend as we had family joining from overseas, with 45 guests coming on the Friday night for fish & chips and summer games. On the morning of the wedding the groomsparty did Clay Pigeon shooting onsite (great fun) and we had a wonderful wedding day for 70 guests including bagpipes to welcome everyone, a whisky tasting downstairs in the cellar (which was fab!) and a Ceilidh. Every guest commented on 1) the wonderfully attentive Winton staff who created a welcoming, relaxed and fun atmosphere and 2) the outstanding food (which can be tough to find for a wedding). A massivethank you to Edinburgh Catering Company (https://www.theedinburghcateringcompany.co.uk/). Overall, if you are looking for a high quality wedding venue, then I would highly recommend reaching out to Rae & the team. The staff were efficient and welcoming, and the grounds looked perfect on such a sunny day. Young children were able to run around and use up excess energy in safe surroundings. Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
We hosted a fun-filled week long wedding stay in the Castle and wider Estate summer 2022. The days included highland games, laser tag, shortbread making and whisky tastings as well as day trips to Edinburgh and North Berwick. There was even a ceilidh tuition by the Castle owner Sir Ogilvy! The wedding day itself welcomed 120 guests, mostly from the States, to put their new ceilidh knowledge to the test. It was an incredible week.
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Don't put your guests wants before your own. It's your day, have it the way you want.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
We love to see couples bring in personal touches. One of my favourites is table names based on places that mean something to the couple, along with a photo of them there and a short story about why it's so special. We learn so much about our wedding couples from touches like this.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
We have a jetty that leads out onto our private loch. It's an incredible photo spot and private from view from the rest of the Castle.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
We did host the wedding of a former Scotland Rugby captain a few years back so we were very excited to welcome most of the rugby team that day. Along the sporting lines we have also served Chris Hoy as a wedding guests. Charlotte Church also turned up at a wedding a few years back when her partner was providing music for the ceremony.
What’s your favourite canapé?
Anything with haggis! Mini haggis, neeps and tatties tarts, or haggis bon bons with a honey mustard dip.
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Can't beat a hog roast roll with apple sauce and stuffing.
What is your venue's most unique feature?
The gardens are incredible and photographers love the variety of picturesque spots.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
Our staff are always incredibly highly praised. They are our own in-house trained staff and they do a fantastic job.
