The Merchant Adventurers' Hall Hall hosts weddings throughout the year and is a light and spacious venue for weddings in the Spring and Summer whilst the Hall is warm and atmospheric and offers a unique experience for anyone choosing to get married during the winter. The Hall is a wonderfully romantic setting for large or small wedding parties and can accommodate 20 to 180 guests for ceremonies and receptions. Larger ceremonies take place in the stunning timber framed Great Hall, whilst small ceremonies are held in the intimate and elegant Governor's Parlour. Afterwards, celebrate with a dinner in the captivating and breath-taking Great Hall followed by an evening reception in the atmospheric Undercroft. The Hall also boasts a large secluded walled garden which provides an ideal setting for a pre-dinner drinks reception and plenty of potential for photographs to capture the special day! There is also a varied choice in what caterer you would like to choose at the Hall. The Hall boasts five approved caterers who will provide delicious food and drink whilst delivering exemplary service. What's Included?

Furniture included

The charge to hire the Hall on a Saturday in 2026 is £4,995 (we do not charge VAT as we are a charity). For this you would get exclusive use of the Hall from 8.30am through to 12.00am with the licence for any music and a bar finishing at 11.30pm (live music to finish at 11.00pm). The earliest ceremony timing is from 1pm to allow time for your set up in the morning. The charge for the sound system for speeches is £95 (includes VAT) and in the winter months, the open fire £65 (includes VAT). The charge includes the use of the Great Hall where your ceremony and meal would take place and the Undercroft where a drinks and evening reception would be, tables and chairs and a member of staff in duty throughout the period of hire are also included in the hire price.

We wanted to have our wedding at a venue full of history and character and we fell in love with the Merchant Adventurers' Hall in York as soon as we saw it. We couldn't believe that having our wedding at this beautiful old building in the heart of York was so affordable. The Merchant Adventurers' Hall has 2 spacious halls (one upstairs and one downstairs) where we had our wedding breakfast and our evening party. We were also lucky with the weather and had our photos and canapes in their huge private garden. Many of our guests complimented our choice of venue and said it's stunning. However, we are even more impressed with the Merchant Adventurers' Hall team. They offered us an exceptional service from the first visit to the day after the wedding when we went to collect a couple of boxes with decoration. The team was super helpful and flexible. They gave us a friendly advice, responded swiftly to all our queries, did their best to meet our requests and made sure that all on our wedding day is running smoothly. We really can’t thank them enough for making our special day so magical.
