The Priory Syningthwaite is nestled into the dramatic scenery of North Yorkshire with just the right blend of romance and enchantment for the perfect wedding day.
The beautiful tree lined driveway leads you to the venue which consists of the converted barn, marquee and 7 beautifully decorated cottages which surround the private courtyard.
All weddings here at Priory Cottages are exclusive use, meaning the venue is yours and yours only for the duration of your stay. From the moment you book your wedding with us, our dedicated events team will be on hand throughout the whole wedding planning process to help steer you in the right direction, recommend suppliers, plan your marquee and answer any questions you may have.
In order to maximise the enjoyment of your wedding you have access to the venue from the day before to get settled in and set everything up so that on your big day you can relax and enjoy the day without any stress. Why not have a BBQ the night before with those staying in the cottages to really kick start the celebrations.
Whether you are looking for an intimate wedding for 40 guests or less or a larger celebration of up to 150, then we have the perfect package for you. Which ever option you choose, your celebrations are timeless, exclusive and perfectly planned.

Barn hire
Exclusive use from 1pm the day before your wedding – 10.30am the day after, which also entitles you to use the grounds, AV system and surrounding areas.
Your wedding planner will be available throughout your planning process as well as on the big day to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Ceremonies can take place in the barn with a maximum of 120 people seated upstairs. Your champagne and canapes will then be served using all of the barn area. Your ceremony - If you choose to get married here at the venue your ceremony will be held in the barn or outside (weather dependent). The ceremony includes a full ceremony set up including chairs and registrars tables, surround sound and a rehearsal the night before with one of our wedding co-ordinators ensuring everything will run smoothly on your big day.
Numbers of 50 and under then have the option of eating upstairs in the barn and then having a dance floor marquee for your evening reception.
Dance floor marquee option – when having your wedding breakfast upstairs in the barn why not add a 10m marquee bay with a fully star lit ceiling, including stage, dancefloor and heating, only available on off peak weekends (January, February, March and November excluding half terms) and any month mid-week.
Minimum numbers of 60 do apply for weekends on peak months.
Marquee hire
The marquee is curtained off from the champagne reception which leads to an element of surprise! Our marquee price includes all the following options: choice of coloured carpet, linings, uplighters, heating, fairy lights, stage, dance floor (available in different colours). Tables (available in different sizes), chairs, chandeliers on dimmers, cake table, easel and kitchen facility. We plan your marquee together from top to bottom!
Cottage hire
We sleep 29 guests in 7 cottages. All of the cottages are accessed from the court yard, so easy to role into bed at the end of the night!

Was so nice to be able to make a full weekend of it and really get to appreciate the beautiful surroundings and cosy cottages at the priory. Being able to have access accommodation the night before meant we got to have a BBQ after the rehearsal dinner with the brides and grooms closest friends and family which was a very special way to commence the celebrations. Serena made sure everything ran so smoothly on the day, and you could see she took any stress away from the bride and groom so they could really enjoy everyone moment of it. All the different areas, barn upstairs, barn downstairs, marquee, surprise dance floor and the amazing outdoor space meant as guests we kept getting new beautiful surprises as the day went on from the ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening party! Since my sisters wedding I have attended as a guest at other weddings too (most recent being 2022) and the standard hasn’t dropped at all, if anything it has got even better as they continue to make upgrades. A wedding that sticks out is a Christmas wedding where Reindeer came to the drinks reception. A glass of champagne and a ride around the court yard. It made for great photos and a funny talking point.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
There are so many, but our personal favourite us the confetti shot from the balcony. It works every time and no matter what time of year. Guests love participating too as its different to what they have done before.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
Yes, lots of sportsmen for some reason. I think its because its private and exclusive.
What’s your favourite canapé?
Its got to be our Hoisin Duck Pancakes - everyone LOVES them.
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Thats easy - Burritos and a G&T!
What is your venue's most unique feature?
The dance floor, bar and large glass doors to the courtyard are all next to each other. This keeps people together - especially on a hot day where guest are outside until late. Bands/DJs can be seen and heard.
