Elvetham is a luxury wedding venue in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. Surrounded by manicured lawns and steeped in British history, this stately home once hosted British royalty members, including King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. Its stunning scenery and opulent interior make it perfect for couples seeking a majestic and historic wedding venue.
Facilities and Capacity
When couples arrive at The Elvetham, they can make a memorable entrance along our scenic driveway before walking the red carpet through our grand entrance. Our country house offers several event spaces for wedding celebrations and is licensed for civil ceremonies of up to 120 guests. Couples can exchange their vows outdoors in many stunning locations throughout our 35 acres of grounds, making the perfect setting for the most beautiful wedding photos. Alternatively, couples can choose to hold their ceremony in our Main House with the choice of our elegant Oak Room or intimate Morning Room for smaller ceremonies. Continue your celebrations into the night with you family and friends with DJ or live music entertainment before retiring to one of our 91 modern en-suite bedrooms.

Couples who choose The Elvetham for their special day can rely on the knowledge and expertise of our designated wedding planner who will be at hand to coordinate all the details of the day and oversee the event for a seamless experience. With in-house catering and seated meal facilities available, guests can look forward to top-quality cuisine and dining throughout the evening. The Elvetham wedding team were brilliant, Cristina was there all day to ensure everything was set up and ready to go, she did an amazing job, I felt very reassured everything was in hand. We also had David as our MC, he was wonderful, so many people approached me to say how brilliant they thought he was, he kept the whole day flowing effortlessly and made our lives so easy. We got married at The Elvetham a few weeks ago, the venue grounds are so beautiful and we had the best day. The Elvetham wedding team were brilliant, Cristina was there all day to ensure everything was set up and ready to go, she did an amazing job, I felt very reassured everything was in hand. As a location and venue, it’s beautiful, charming and idyllic, which was a large part of why we booked it and would recommend it in this regard. As a business, we didn’t feel it was particularly well run and our experience was at times frustrating. The hotel has a dedicated weddings team which was initially reassuring for us but throughout the process, there was a lot of staff turnover and poor communication meaning it was us having to organise meetings and take care of most of the details. It didn’t feel like we were getting the benefit of a wedding team but instead we had to be extremely proactive (which is stressful when it’s your wedding). For example, two nights accommodation in the Gardener’s Cottage was included in our wedding contract from the offset, but months later, a family member found the cottage available to hire on a holiday website so we had to inform the hotel of this to avoid double bookings on our dates. There were more issues similar to this throughout the process that required us to have more oversight than we had anticipated. Having said that, Amelia in the wedding team had to pick up the pieces from previous staff members and came in halfway through our planning process, and we did feel she did her best in managing some challenging situations that she inherited. On the day, the team running the event itself were competent and helpful, and all the food and drink was delicious. The set-up period in the morning was a bit frustrating as the operations manager was busy showing prospective wedding couples around the venue instead of being on hand to help with troubleshooting on the morning of our wedding. We did feel it was inappropriate that prospective wedding couples were being prioritised over the wedding couple on the day and hope the venue can take this feedback on for the future. Overall, we were glad we chose the Elvetham because the location is truly beautiful, but just be aware that it will likely require a fair amount of proactivity and organisation on your part.We hired the Elvetham hotel as the venue for our wedding. They, like many, have had to deal with all the issues the pandemic has brought but they've done so fantastically well. The hotel rooms are large and pleasant and if you upgrade to one of their suites, they are just stunning. We will be going back to The Elvetham many times to celebrate our anniversaries, but I would also not hesitate to use them for a special birthday occasion either given the level of service they provide.From the very first time we stepped into the hotel (unannounced) to ask about hosting our wedding there, the service has been nothing short of extraordinary. It was truly amazing, and I just want to do it again. Our wedding planner was great with her communication, she was great on the day itself too, looking after every need all through the day and made sure we were happy every step of the way. It was a magical day in the most beautiful of surroundings. I would recommend The Elvetham again and again for anyone’s wedding day. Can’t wait to return in a year for our first anniversary.My Husband and I can not thank The Elvetham enough for helping us plan and run our perfect day. This is due to our wedding coordinator Holly who provided a lot of work behind the scenes -working with our vendors and were always on hand to respond quickly to any of our questions. A huge thanks to the The Elvetham team. The venue itself is beautiful and we were lucky that in early April we had some lovely spring sunshine and so we were able to utilise the whole space and gardens for our 120 guests. The formal gardens are the perfect place to have the reception drinks and canapés. It was clean, comfortable, characterful and had everything I needed. It was so convenient to leave the wedding party and just go upstairs to bed! Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
We encourage all of our couples to explore the grounds and the estate to find the best spots for them! The Irish Yew trees are perhaps the most iconic image of a wedding at The Elvetham but we find it impossible to chose just one, when we asked the team they all had different spots: The Orchard - a recent edition, Stairwell - the stained glass is magical, The bridge - spectacular at golden hour.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
With our long history we have had a fair few notable visitors, the list includes royalty like King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I and some more modern editions being Ruth and Eamonn Holmes getting married with us in 2010. We are also a popular filming location for various films and tv shows, perhaps you can spot us in some of your favourite shows this year.
What’s your favourite canapé?
We love our chefs goat’s cheese and onion marmalade on crispy toast as a vegetarian option and for the meat lovers roast beef with mustard on brioche
