There are nine buildings to choose from at Ryedale Folk Museum to host your ceremony. Whether you’d like to get married in our impressive thatched 16th century Manor House; have your elopement in the unique Undertaker’s Office; or host a hand-fasting ceremony in the Iron Age Roundhouse, we have the perfect wedding venue for you!
Some of our characterful spaces are also suitable for informal daytime receptions. Think afternoon tea, a posh picnic or the fun of a pizza / fish & chip van or hog roast! Whether you wish to bring your own bubbly, hire a mobile cocktail bar, or enjoy a cuppa served in our vintage mis-matched crockery, we've got your post-ceremony celebrations sorted.
The Museum's beautiful countryside setting offers a relaxed vibe - the chocolate-box charming village of Hutton-le-Hole in the North York Moors National Park is our home. Our heritage buildings, museum collection objects and picturesque grounds offer unique backdrops for your wedding photos (where else can you take Insta-worthy snaps in an Edwardian Daylight Photographic Studio?!), as well as entertaining your guests.

We are a charity and we offer nine of the open-air museum's incredible buildings as ceremony locations. Each space has it's own quirks and story. We welcome couples and their loved ones to come and create a bit of their history here too.

We also offer packages with ceremony and reception location hire (Saturday - Thursday), or an Exclusive Use option (Fridays only).

The venue, the staff, the organisation, even the locals in the village we couldn't have asked for more! From the initial contact with Kirst the museums wedding coordinator to the day itself, everything was easy and welcoming. We chose the museum after a visit back in the autumn of 2024 where we fell in love with the place and it completely matched our vibe. There are a huge range of museum buildings to choose from and each is completely unique and memorable. We chose the Iron Age Roundhouse as our venue as it is perfect for our very low key and quirky day and as we are both history buffs, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect location. The museum has a great range of local suppliers that have worked with the museum in the past which takes the stress out of a lot of the planning as they know the venue and how to match the aesthetics to the buildings and area. The communication was second to none and queries or requests no matter how small or silly, Kirsty was on the other end of an email or phone call to sort it for us. The day itself was completely stress free! We stayed at The Crown Inn, the pub next door to the museum, which later hosted our party with excellent food, so our wedding day morning was leisurely and easy and only having a minute's walk to the museum itself. We were provided with a breakfast hamper from The Old School Bakery across the road, who also made our beautiful wedding cake. The museum staff did a beautiful job of lighting the roundhouse with candles and subtle lighting to keep the aesthetics of the building intact for the ceremony, with Kirsty on hand to literally walk us through the whole day. The museum allows dogs too, and so we were walked down the aisle accompanied by our dog Moss, which made our day that little bit more complete. We chose a local photographer - from the museums suppliers list, Emily Quinton Smith who went above and beyond to capture our day, including taking us up on the moors for some incredible views and stunning photos. We couldn’t have asked for more, everything and everyone from Kirsty and the museum staff, Emily and the entire village made our day beyond anything we could have imagined and truly perfect. Ryedale had popped up in our searches and having been there in the past, we knew it would be perfect. Kirsty was amazing throughout and helped us to perfect our day, met us beforehand to ensure we knew how everything would go, and was the first person to meet us on our special day. It all turned out beautiful, and can't thank Kirsty and Ryedale enough for making our wedding so magical.We wanted a wedding that was really personal, just us and our pooch. The weather was very helpful so we could enjoy games outside the pavilion too. I would recommend Willows Catering Co. Who provided tea and cakes to die for! Everyone at the museum was helpful and made sure the day ran smoothly. We opted for a Saturday wedding which meant we did not have exclusive use of the venue, it was fine having members of the public around however we found the regimented timings for setting up and packing down to be a little constraining, ideally we would have liked to set up the night before for our 10am time slot. All in all the venue looked perfect and everyone had a great time. Ryedale Folk museum was a great location with the ceremony in the manor house followed by afternoon tea in the pavilion. Kirsty was great at communicating the plans with us and our guests commented on how lovey it was to be able to spend time looking around whilst my wife and I had our photos taken around the various other buildings and on the Moors. We would certainly recommend this venue to anyone looking for an intimate wedding experience. Thank you for hosting us! We chose to have exclusive use of the museum for our ceremony and then small reception afterwards. We were so glad that we chose this, having this amazing venue for our day was everything we could have wanted. The whole process of booking and organising our wedding here was so smooth and stress-free. Right from the get-go, communication from Kirsty was fantastic. We were made to feel so welcome and that no request was too big of an ask. She was always on the end of an email ready to answer our questions and make sure we had all the information we needed. It was great to have a tour of all of the possible venues on the museum site that were available for the ceremony, with explanations of what each one offered. On the run up to the day, Kirsty also liased with other vendors that were booked for the wedding to ensure logistics were all in hand. On the day, the team were so efficient and helpful. They helped our family members/wedding party to get the venue all set up. It looked absolutely magical, we were completely blown away by how the venue had transformed to become the perfect setting for our ceremony. After the ceremony, the team worked to re-set the manor house for our reception, setting out tables with gorgeous vintage tea cups and saucers for us and our guests. The feedback from our guests afterwards was wonderful, with so many comments about how fabulous and unique our choice of venue was. The wedding pictures were also so beautiful, couldn't have asked for a better backdrop! We would absolutely recommend. We could not have asked for a more perfect wedding day at Ryedale Folk Museum. It did not disappoint and was such a beautiful experience. The staff at the Folk Museum made it feel so easy and smooth throughout our journey and were so accommodating. The whole Museum is so beautiful and it feels magical when the flowers, decorations and lights are added too - we were able to keep the wedding decor really simple because the Manor House was just so stunning.We first chose the Folk Museum for its individuality and beautiful setting. It did not disappoint and was such a beautiful experience. The staff at the Folk Museum made it feel so easy and smooth throughout our journey and were so accommodating. Describe the best wedding that happened at your venue?
That's too tough a question to answer! Because we have nine different ceremony locations and there spaces to host receptions, every wedding here is very different. We try to create the best possible day for each couple, whist realising every couple has their own idea of what would make the 'best' day.
If I had to choose the best location here at the Museum, then my personal love of photography means the Edwardian Daylight Photographic Studio (for up to 10 guests) wins it for me!
What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
It's YOUR day. Try to keep that at the forefront of your decisions and plans. Try not to worry about what anyone else wants/thinks. If it makes you two happy, then that's all that matters.
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
A life-size cardboard cut-out of a family member who couldn't attend due to Covid travel restrictions. She made it into all of the group photos on the day. The couple weren't too precious about their professional photos and tried to make light of a difficult situation.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
Nope, can't choose just one. There are so many great and unusual options! But I love the stone walls and leaded windows of the thatched cruck cottage, Stang End, for a moddy black & white shot. Or alongside the cornfield with pops of colour from summer flowers and the Iron Age Roundhouse in the background.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
I don't think so, but I'm not a great celebrity spotter, so who knows?!
What’s your favourite canapé?
Anything in a mini Yorkshire pudding gets my vote!
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Sleep!
What is your venue's most unique feature?
I truly think every one of our ceremony locations is unique, but I don't think there's anywhere else you can get married in an old Undertaker's Office!
What part of your business are you most proud of?
That we're a charity and the money we make from weddings helps provide unrestricted funding to look after and share our buildings and collections with tens of thousands of people each year.
