My dream wedding made realMy dream wedding made real
We could not have imagined anything better for our big day, it was magical and something we will remember for the rest of our lives. The venue was absolutely gorgeous, the weather amazing on the day, and every single guest was blown away the whole event. The Palace suite was to die for! I cannot thank Gemma and the team at Old Palace for being so organised, professional and friendly the whole way through this journey. You are in very good hands if you choose this venue and would 100% recommend them to anyone looking to be married any time soon. We could not have imagined anything better for our big day, it was magical and something we will remember for the rest of our lives. The Old Palace Chester is stunning, tucked away behind the city walls and almost hidden in the middle of Chester city. It feels like a real secret gem. The views over the river are gorgeous, and every single room and space we used was beautifully presented with so much attention to detail. It created the perfect atmosphere for the whole weekend, and our guests didn’t stop complimenting how beautiful the palace was. I didn't want to leave. The food was incredible from start to finish, from the chilled pizza night the evening before, to the wedding breakfast, and then the evening BBQ. Everything tasted amazing, and the quality was consistent for everyone, which so many guests commented on. But what really made the whole experience unforgettable was the staff. Every single person was genuinely invested in making our day special, and everyone was so friendly. The cleaners even stopped working to watch me walk down in my dress after chatting with me the day before, such a small moment, but it meant so much. We wanted the whole day to feel warm and relaxed, and the staff played a huge part in creating that atmosphere. Anne Marie, who helped in the morning, was calm, organised and made everything run smoothly. Zak on the bar went above and beyond for everyone, he even grabbed a Red Bull for a family member when he saw him flagging. Just so lovely to have that level of care for guests. Gemma, the events manager on the day, was impeccable. Her attention to detail was unreal, and she went out of her way to make sure both myself and Mark had everything we needed. As master of ceremonies she kept guests in the loop, but always in such a friendly way. Nicola and Lex, in the lead-up, was amazing, always flexible, always helpful, and genuinely lovely to deal with. The waiting staff at the wedding breakfast were so attentive that guests were still talking about them afterwards. The food service honestly felt like being in a real palace. One lovely young waitress looked after us and she was so polite and kind. You can really tell that the whole team work so well together, it makes such a difference. They created the most beautiful, memorable experience for us, within the most beautiful and memorable setting and we’re so grateful for everything they did. The best day!The best day!
We got married at the Old Palace in October and we had the most amazing day. The planning process was made so easy by all of the events team, they are organised right down to the tiniest detail. I was able to go in and decorate the venue the day before which was a huge stress relief for me as I'd done all the decor myself, and after our wedding was done the events team cleared and organised everything ready by the front door to take home - which I wasn't expecting but was SO grateful! When me and my bridesmaids arrived at the venue, we were taken up to the getting ready room, we were left to get ready and enjoyed breakfast and bucks fizz. Around an hour before the ceremony Anne-Marie came up and talked us through the day and honestly she was brilliant, she looked after me and my husband so well, she even reminded me to put my earrings in (which I had forgotten). From then on we had Gemma running the day, she's a great laugh and made us feel so at ease all day, the day ran so smoothly and all of our guests have raved about the food and the service from the waiting on/ and bar staff. After we'd eaten, I managed to spill chocolate powder on my dress. At this point I was not bothered as I was actually proud of myself that I'd made it that long without spilling anything! I said it was fine, you could barely see it - Gemma and Lauren were having none of that. With it being powder we didn't really know what to do, but Lauren worked her magic and managed to get it off with a lint roller, and left no trace! (So Ladies, add lint roller to your emergency kit!!) Us and our guests had the best time, the venue is so beautiful, the staff are brilliant, and the food was divine. The bridal suite is the best one I've seen, and I've worked in hotels for 13+ years so I've seen a few. I felt like I was in bridgerton in there, it was such a cool show piece for our guests, I think 60% of our guests got shown it by us and our family! To sum up, if you are considering getting married in Chester, and you want a stress free day, with great vibes and great photo ops, don't miss out on Old Palace and all it has to offer. From the start you guys have been fantastic, so supportive and made the process so easy for the both of us. We went into the wedding unsure of how to go about certain aspects of the day but the day flowed so smoothly and we are so thankful. You made us feel so comfortable and looked after for the entire day. Our guests couldn’t have had a better time and the amount of compliments we have received have been fantastic and that’s all thanks to you guys.From the start you guys have been fantastic, so supportive and made the process so easy for the both of us. We had the most fantastic day at The Old Palace we could ever have wished for. The venue itself is just stunning, the staff are the most helpful staff I have ever encountered - anywhere! The food was to die for, the drinks were beautiful, nothing was ever too much to ask. Special shout out to Lauren, for just being wonderful and on hand with every single question I had (and there was a lot of questions!) It was the most stress-free experience, everything was looked after behind the scenes. Every single guest raved about what a fantastic time they had. I’m just sad we can’t do it all again! Old Palace Chester is such a beautiful venue and we would 100% recommend to any couples to get married here. It was a perfect day that exceeded our expectations. The venue itself is absolutely stunning but it was all the staff that made the day so perfect for ourselves and our guests, it couldn’t have gone more smoothly. The food from the canapés to the breakfast the next morning was amazing. The pizzas in the evening were also a huge hit. A big shoutout to Lauren who was incredible throughout the whole process and on the big day itself, she couldn’t have done more for us. Wish we could relive the day all over again! A stunning venue and faultless experience, we chose this venue as we instantly fell in love with it from our show round, and it was the first venue we picked, easily accessible without losing any sense of the secluded hidden day to enjoy away from what a normal city centre venue would bring. Lauren and her team were amazing throughout the planning right up to the running of our amazing day. Her attention to detail and ensuring we had our drinks brought to us on the reception drinks and put aside our canopies to enjoy after our photoshoot was a really nice touch and ensured we got to fully enjoy our day and got moments to take out of the rush and excitement. The food was excellent and service throughout ran seamlessly and not one complaint as it all ran like clockwork. If we could re do it we wouldn't change a thing and would happily do the day over and over again. From a happily married couple old palace was the second best choice we made, after picking each other. Would. Highly recommend to any other couples looking to get married. Every wedding is so different, it is impossible to pick just one but our first wedding has a special place in our hearts. To see all the hard work that went in to getting the venue ready pay off, and seeing our first guests having such a good time will stick with us for a long time!

What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Make sure you have someone else looking after everything on the actual day so that you can really enjoy the day.

What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?

In between lockdowns we did manage to host a number of more intimate weddings, and one couple had provided personalised bottles of posh hand sanitiser. I thought it was a great way to embrace the situation, rather than letting it get them down!

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

There are so many to choose from but The Palace Suite with its incredible ornate ceiling creates a stunning backdrop!

Not yet!

What’s your favourite canapé?

Smoked duck breast crostini with pickled beetroot, although we love to see couples creating bespoke canapes with our amazing chefs as it can really add a personal touch to the service.

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

The home made truffles that are served with the coffee.

What is your venue's most unique feature?

Being situated right next to the river in Chester's city centre, whilst also being so hidden and private. And the ceiling in the Palace Suite (again!), you cannot get more unique than a hand sculpted 290 year old Italian style piece of art!

What part of your business are you most proud of?

We are most proud of the service that we provide from the moment of booking all the way through to the special day, and after too. The team love being part of someone’s wedding as everyone is always so joyous, and it is lovely to have some input in to making those days happen. It is such an emotive and personal day and to be a part of that is truly special, and we love going above and beyond to make every wedding amazing and unique.
