Situated in the heart of Midlothian, and a short drive away from Edinburgh, is the beautiful Grade II listed Melville Castle, one of the region's most popular wedding venues. With 54 acres of parklands and enchanting woodland, and an extraordinary history dating back to 1786, it’s easy to see why this hidden gem appeals to engaged couples. Before you reach the Castle itself, you journey along an impressive mile-long driveway through woodland, which is sure to impress guests as they arrive. Inside, the grand state rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies or you can say 'I do' in the Ballroom – a natural light filled space with large period-style windows that can accommodate up to 150 guests. If you prefer to say your vows outside, the south lawn with its beautiful fountain is licensed for civil ceremonies, and can also fit up to 150 guests. With the important bit done, you can begin celebrating your marriage with an atmospheric drinks reception in the Viscount Room. As guests mingle and enjoy the views, you can slip away for photographs around the grounds. After drinks, the celebrations continue in our majestic contemporary Marquee – complete with chandeliers, fairy lights, heated toilets and a bar – to enjoy a fabulous wedding breakfast, freshly prepared on-site by Melville Castle's team of talented chefs. The Marquee is where you'll dance the night away, before retiring to one of our beautifully ornate bedrooms. Our highly experienced wedding team will be available to assist you through every step of the planning process, from your first enquiry right through to the departure of the very last guest on your wedding day. Each wedding is unique and we pride ourselves on ensuring that yours is just that.
No wedding is better than any other as there’s no right or wrong way to get married. Some couples love the idea of hosting their celebration in the castle, while others prefer something a little more relaxed, like a marquee filled with fairy lights. Find a balance between tradition and what feels right for you as a couple. Combine cultures, choose flowers that remind you of someone special, or tie a Celtic knot during your vows. It's your day, celebrate it your way.
Lean on your wedding venue team for advice and guidance as they have most likely seen and done it all. Trust their skill and experience and it will help put your mind at ease. We also find weddings that are simple, yet deeply personal are more enjoyable to plan and the day is much more memorable.
The bride was from Canada and the groom was from Scotland, so they made maple shortbread creams for the guests as wedding favours. Combining the couple's two cultures in a delicious sweet treat added a personal touch and it avoided any waste – every crumb was enjoyed.
Stunning, Elegant, Charming, Unique, Historic.
The bridge over the river has become an iconic shot for our couples. But, if the weather is misbehaving, the grand staircase in our reception area is equally as striking.
Now that would be telling...
As we're a Scottish venue, you just can't beat our haggis bonbons. Guests love them.
A decadent cheese board!
The estate offers incredible photo opportunities for you and your guests. For those romantic couple shots, you can choose the grand backdrop of the castle itself or head into the woodland or down to the river for a more intimate, nature-led shot. There are lots of unique, hidden places to explore too.
Our team are incredible. Always an email or phone call away, they will go above and beyond to make every wedding day as special as can be and every couple is well looked after from the moment they make that first enquiry.
