Butley Priory is an enchanting wedding venue like no other. Located only two hours from London and hidden within an area of outstanding natural beauty in the wilds of a Suffolk forest. This once 12th Century monastery provides a truly unique and magical setting being quoted recently by Vogue as being: ‘one of the most romantic houses in England’.
Grand or intimate, indoors or out, sophisticated or outrageous, it’s up to you. Butley Priory provides an unforgettable setting for all styles of weddings and celebrations. Host an intimate wedding in the Priory for up to 60 family and friends, or a festival-style reception for up to 200 guests on the front lawn. With the Priory set as a beautiful backdrop to your celebrations, we welcome traditional marquees, tipis, stretch tents on the front lawn, allowing you to create your perfect reception in complete privacy.
Only two hours drive from London, with accommodation for up to 41 guests; comprising of 11 guests within the Priory itself, up to 6 guests in Butley Priory Cottage and up to 24 guests in Butley Abbey Farmhouse, all within a short walk of each other. The Priory is also available to hire for family reunions, private celebrations, corporate events, location hire or wellness retreats.

Our venue hire pricing includes your wedding day plus 2 nights accommodation at Butley Priory, which sleeps 7-11 guests. Included is a fully stocked and serviced bar, as well as a dedicated wedding co-ordinator to oversee the smooth running of your day.
In addition, you can hire Butley Priory Cottage (sleeps 4+2) and The Farmhouse (sleeps 24).

The staff were fantastic, the food was lovely and the atmosphere was so perfect. It’s everything we dreamt of and more. Couldn’t fault it whatsoever. Everything was seamless. It flowed so perfectly and we really loved every minute. The staff throughout the whole day were so attentive and helpful. It was truly wonderful ?? we loved every minute. We got married here in October, the south face Garden means the light was flooding and was beautiful, it also makes for a really grand yet homely feel in the evening with the fireplaces. It was truly enchanting. We can not praise or thank Emma at Butley enough, she was incredibly helpful, nothing was too much hassle and she was incredibly calm and organised on the day. It wouldn't have been as easy without her. Butley priory is a really magical place for a wedding. The rooms in the priory are stunning but also comfy, warm and inviting. My husband and I instantly fell in love with not only the look of the place but also the special feel it gives you. We booked our wedding day for 14 April (2018) and what a fabulous day it was! Everything was perfect - even the clement weather. The ceremony was held in the Great Hall and the atmosphere felt so intimate and relaxed. The room looked stunning, having been decorated with country flowers and candles! We loved the fact that we were permitted a free hand to decorate the rooms ourselves, although very little was required as the priory is very beautiful as it is. Photos and bubbly under a blue sky in the gardens full of sunny daffodils was followed by a marvellous wedding breakfast. Thank you to Paul the chef and all the catering staff who produced a delicious three course meal and dealt seamlessly with the various dietary requirements. Our guests praised the meal and said it was the best food they had ever been served at a wedding. Clare and Sarah had great organisational skills leading up to the wedding and everything was sorted with very little fuss. Thank you also to Emma who worked tirelessly on the day to ensure everything ran smoothly.....which it did! You cannot help but fall in love with Butley Priory. It is seeped in history, has the most extraordinary architecture with soaring ceilings, open fireplaces and quirky nooks and crannies. We stayed the night and had just the best time. The in house food was excellent and some (very)special dietary requirements catered for without a glitch. Such a wonderful building and marvelous help in the planning. I can't believe that we lived in the locality for so long without knowing that the Priory was there! An absolute treasure. We are looking to book again for a family reunion. It's such a pleasure to be able to recommend a place so unreservedly.Suffolk's best kept secret venue.
