Everything you need to know about weddings in West Midlands

All About Getting Married in the West Midlands

The West Midlands has a fantastic mix of industry, cultural landmarks and amenities. Famous for its history of manufacturing, the region is known for everything from car production to the world-famous Cadbury’s chocolate. As well as being home to major cities and towns like Birmingham and Wolverhampton, the West Midlands also has plenty of quaint villages and open, sprawling countryside. With excellent transport links and a huge variety of choices, it’s an ideal destination for hosting your wedding.

As uncovered in our 2025 Wedding Report, the West Midlands hosts approximately 9% of all weddings in the UK, with an impressive 83% of local couples choosing to marry within the region. Weddings in the West Midlands cost an average of £18,738, more than £2,000 less than the UK average of £20,822. That means, not only can you have a wonderful wedding in the West Midlands, but you’ll generally pay less than other couples across the country, too.

Including a wide selection of venues, from luxury manors to iconic sporting venues, the West Midlands offers so many options. With its brilliant culture, great accessibility and mix of locations, you’re bound to something that fits your wedding vision.

Popular Wedding Themes & Trends in the West Midlands

The West Midlands’ rich cultural diversity has contributed to the rise of fusion weddings, where couples with mixed backgrounds blend traditions and cultural details to reflect their unique heritage. Not only are these weddings deeply personal and pay respect to family traditions, but they also offer a unique experience for guests.

A trend making a resurgence in the West Midlands is vintage-style photographs captured on actual film, rather than digitally. This comeback offers couples a nostalgic, timeless feel for their big day. Unlike digital photography, film captures the raw and beautiful details thanks to authentic textures and soft lighting.

Outdoor weddings are a big deal in the West Midlands, which we know because couples in the area spend an average of £6,600 on a marquee or tipi, compared to the UK average of £4,532. This is also more than in any other region of the country.

Wedding Venues in the West Midlands & Average Costs

With everything from luxurious hotels in bustling city centres to sites oozing with history, the range of venues in the West Midlands is huge. Whatever you’re dreaming of for your wedding day, you’re sure to find something that ticks your boxes.

For a venue rich in British history, the West Midlands has some stunning options. Hampton Court Castle in Hereford is the quintessential castle, set within 500 acres of stunning countryside. Davenport House in Bridgnorth is a beautiful Georgian manor that lets you tie the knot like you’re there on the set of Bridgerton, never mind Bridgnorth. Or there’s Himley Hall and Park in Dudley, a beautiful venue where Royals once honeymooned.

If you’re keen to get married in the great outdoors, the West Midlands certainly has plenty of venues for you to consider. For a magical spot that takes full advantage of the beautiful British countryside, Burlton Manor has something for everyone. Get married deep in the trees and celebrate in quirky tipis at Newlands Bishop Farm in Solihull. Or you could get married surrounded by pristine gardens, paddocks, orchards and lakes at the fantastic Blakelands Estate in Bobbington.

If the two of you are big sports fans, the West Midlands has a huge amount of choice when it comes to celebrating your love at a venue where you may have celebrated your favourite team from the stands. The stadiums for Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Walsall, West Bromwich Albion, Coventry City and Aston Villa are all brilliant venues that let you bring two of your loves together – your team and your other half! Or for something just as unique, you could choose to get married at Dudley Zoo and Castle or Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery – both venues guaranteed to make sure you have a wedding like no other.

If you’re looking to keep spending down, there are also loads of venues across the West Midlands that are both beautiful and affordable. Some great options include Cheylesmore Manor House, The Kitchen Garden and The Lake at Barston, so make sure to check them out.

The average cost of a venue in the West Midlands is £5,818, which is around £1,000 more than their East Midlands neighbours. But, it is a little less than the national UK average of £5,945, and more than £1,200 less than couples spend in London at £7,020.

Average Wedding Venue Booking Lead Times in the West Midlands

If you’re planning to book your wedding in the West Midlands, you can expect a lead time of somewhere in the region of 12 to 18 months. When it comes to booking some of the most popular venues in the region, or if you’d like a date at the weekend or the height of wedding season, it may even require securing your place two years or more in advance.

For couples who are flexible with their venue, date or even the day of the week, it may be possible to secure a booking with as little as six months’ notice. Opting for a weekday wedding or a date during an off-peak season, such as autumn or winter, can also increase your chances of finding availability at short notice.

That said, the West Midlands is a popular destination for weddings thanks to its central location, stunning venues and range of options. To ensure you get your dream venue and avoid disappointment, it’s always a good idea to book as early as possible.

Weather & Seasonality in the West Midlands

Like the rest of the UK, the West Midlands has its fair share of unpredictable weather. While winters are typically cold and summers warm, there’s always a chance of rain, no matter the season. But, with a bit of planning, you can have your dream wedding at any time of the year.

Spring (March - May) is a beautiful time to tie the knot in the West Midlands. Parks and gardens like Lickey Hills Country Parks and Sutton Park come alive with plant life to create stunning backdrops for your wedding photos. Temperatures range from 9°C (48°F) in March to 15°C (59°F) in May, though the occasional April shower is likely. But, if you can time it right, spring is great for an outdoor ceremony, like those offered at The Mill Barns in Bridgnorth.

Summer (June - August) is the most popular wedding season in the West Midlands, offering warm weather and long daylight hours. Highs typically reach 21°C (70°F), though there’s also the possibility of occasional heatwaves, which can sometimes push temperatures into the high 20s or even mid-30s. With around 14 hours of daylight in August, summer is ideal for outdoor weddings at a venue like Redhouse Barn in Bromsgrove.

Autumn (September - November) is a great season for weddings in the region, with the beautiful countryside like the Shropshire Hills National Landscape transforming as the leaves slowly fall from the trees. Temperatures range from 16°C (61°F) in September to 10°C (50°F) in November. There’s also a higher likelihood of rain, so make sure you plan accordingly.

Winter (December - February) weddings in the West Midlands have their own special appeal. Frost-covered landscapes make for gorgeous wedding photographs, while cosy indoor venues, with their twinkling lights, create a romantic atmosphere. Temperatures often dip below freezing, so you’ll need to make sure you go with a venue that has enough indoor space to accommodate all your guests, like the Grand Botanical Suite in Birmingham.

Transport & Accommodation in the West Midlands

The West Midlands is an amazing choice for hosting your wedding thanks to its central UK location and excellent transport links that make it easily accessible.

Birmingham Airport (BHX) is the largest airport in the West Midlands, offering over 65 daily departures to cities across Europe and long-haul destinations like Dubai and New York. The airport is just 15 minutes from Birmingham city centre via train.

The West Midlands also has brilliant rail links, with the biggest station in the region being Birmingham New Street, which is also one of the UK’s busiest railway hubs. There are regular direct trains connecting the region to London, Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff and other major cities. The journey from London Euston to Birmingham takes under two hours, with departures roughly every 15 to 20 minutes. Other stations around the West Midlands include Moor Street, Snow Hill, Wolverhampton and Coventry, ensuring your guests can easily access different parts of the area.

For guests travelling by car, the West Midlands has plenty of major motorways, including the M5, M6, M40 and M42. These provide direct routes to cities across the country, with Birmingham and Coventry being within a three-hour drive of most major UK locations. Just be wary of the M6 toll, which does cost – but there are alternatives which mean it’s easily avoidable. Many wedding venues in the region offer ample parking for guests, making it a stress-free option for those driving.

Once your guests have arrived in the West Midlands, there’s a variety of ways for them to get around, including buses, taxis and trams.

With countless accommodation options, the West Midlands caters to all budgets and styles, so your guests will always have somewhere to stay. As well as all the well-known chain hotels, there are lots of hotels that also have event space, meaning you can have your ceremony and reception all under one roof. Check out venues like Manor Hotel, Windmill Village Hotel, Golf Club & Spa and Village Hotel Birmingham Dudley to see how you can have a wedding all in one fantastic and convenient location.
