Lickleyhead Castle Full Description
Lickleyhead Castle is your sumptuous and picturesque Scottish country retreat. At the centre of Royal Deeside and nestled at the base of Mount Bennachie, we host hopelessly romantic micro-weddings and offer a multi-night stay for the extended bridal party, including their nearest and dearest. Both the ceremony and reception can be held here, but we have an upper limit of 30 people inside the castle. The castle has been a closely guarded secret for the last five centuries, known only to a select and notable few. Its walls have held both royalty and Hollywood stars and the stories that can be told about this Grade A listed building are stranger and richer than any fiction. Notable recent inhabitants of the castle include Game of Thrones star, Rose Leslie, who lived at the castle as a child. The current owners have extensively and sympathetically renovated the building over the past three years, giving each room a unique character that mirrors the different eras in which the castle has stood. There are 8 bedrooms in total, with one a family suite. We can therefore sleep up to sixteen people (plus children), meaning that the happy couple plus their closest family can stay in the building. The kitchen is large and well provisioned with cooking facilities both traditional and modern. The great hall, a large space, would be the best place for wedding ceremonies of between 12 and 30 people. For tiny weddings of between 2-12 people the couple could instead consider using our chapel. The dining room is beautiful and wood panelled, with room for up to 30 people. As we are a small venue, we do not have an in house catering team and you are welcome to bring in an external catering company of your choice. If you wish we may also be able to arrange catering for you.

If only I could live here!

A magical castle in a tranquil setting. From reading by the fire to singing around the piano, there is something for everyone here. Many rooms large and small, each with their own character. Plenty of nooks and crannies to explore inside and out. Well equipped and excellent service. If only I could live here!

Feel Like a Lord or Lady

If you want to feel like a Lord or a Lady, you'll be in the right place! The castle is beautiful: each bedroom is carefully decorated, the bathrooms are nicely appointed, the living rooms are superb and the garden is very pleasant. Feel free to book to enjoy this unique place where James will welcome you with kindness and good humor. We recommend 100%!

The Most Beautiful Venue

The castle was one of the most beautiful venues we’ve ever attended. The details, the decor, the magic, it was a very special experience for our group to stay here. The bedrooms were comfortable. Plenty of space for us to relax and enjoy. We made good use of the fireplace in the main room. The grounds were beautiful to walk around in. Easy communication with James. Managed to get food shopping delivered to us to cook in the large kitchen. We’d definitely love to come again & would recommend it..

Stunning Historic Castle

We had the pleasure of being the first couple to marry at this stunning historic castle. All of our 6 guests enjoyed the whole weekend, from choosing their individual room to the quaint Chapel to the stunning gardens. Plenty of local businesses too, to help the day go with a bang. Caterers, hairdressers and make-up artist to name a few.

Quirky, unique enchantment of Lickleyhead Castle

The minute you turn into the drive of Lickleyhead Castle it’s as if whatever’s bothering you about modern life simply fades away. Encircled by huge mature trees, the castle sits in two acres of grounds which immediately invite exploration...

Best Place I've Ever Stayed

Truly a magical experience! And we may have had an encounter with the Green Lady! The rooms were all lovely and it was difficult to pick which one I wanted. We held a murder mystery event on the evening of my birthday through Red Herring Events and it was fantastic!
