Balbirnie House is a 1777 Georgian mansion, Category A Listed of national and international architectural and design importance. The house was the inspiration for Edinburgh’s New Town. This historic house was caringly restored and converted into a hotel in the late 1980’s, and since then the property has evolved into a totally unique and special destination, and especially so for weddings. Balbirnie is one of Scotland’s landmark hotels, with a uniquely established history under 4 decades of personal supervision and private ownership, playing host and providing a backdrop for many thousands of Scotland’s most special private and corporate events. Over the years Balbirnie has been the recipient of a quite extraordinary collection of industry awards, especially for weddings.

- CChris & Kate30/11/2025Best wedding venueBest wedding venueBalbirnie house is such a great place for your wedding venue. We had our big day on 14/11/25 and it was all we dreamt of. From the minute we walked in to the minute we left we were so welcomed & cared for. Special thanks to Katy our wedding coordinator for looking after us for nearly 2 years!!! (We were planning for 2 years). She has been absolutely amazing & I couldn’t have asked for better! Katy looked after me & helped me so much, she was the backbone of this day!! Also David our master of ceremonies was out of this world, I felt like a Princess for the day!! Prosecco at hand, umbrella at the ready, he even stitched my dress in the evening for me as someone stood on it and it ripped! Checked up on me all day & night! I’m still in my wedding bubble (3 weeks ago now). Time really does fly by! We had 74 guests & they were taken care of the minute they arrived to the minute they left! I’ve had so many complaints on how lovely the day was, how stunning Balbirnie is & how the staff were amazing! Also the service for the meal was the best ALOT of people had experienced. EVERYONES meal was out at the same time, nobody left waiting! The right amount of time in between courses as well! None of this waiting forever on your meal to come! The food was outstanding! The rooms are fantastic, the beds are super comfy! (The best nights sleep). The day went so smoothly! So if you panic like me you’ll be amazed at the lengths they go, I was at ease the whole day! They out all out decorations for us for the whole day, hung up my dress & laid out my shoes for me in the honeymoon suite. Complimentary parking for guests as well, you input your registration number into the iPad at the main reception. Honeslty can’t thank Balbirnie enough for everything they have done to make our wedding day a dream day. So many guests are still complimenting how great a day they had and I think that’s all down to Balbirnie. Thank you once again for making it so magical! We were so relaxed because Katy and David had everything under control. We trusted them to manage everything for us, from supplier management and set up to ensuring everything ran on time. The day flew by but was calm and everything ran like clockwork. They are so experienced as there are so many weddings every month at Balbirnie, but everyone I spoke with made me feel like the most important person to them, and they couldn’t have done any more for us. I’ve never felt so much like a princess in my life! This really is the best wedding venue, and all the staff were amazing, welcoming, efficient and went out of their way to make our experience smooth and stress-free. Katy was super helpful in the lead up the wedding, answering any and all questions we had and putting our minds at ease. On the day, everything was so well organised and the venue looked perfect. All of our guests complimented how well the day ran and how welcoming the staff were. Our food was really good as well as drinks and canapes too. We felt really taken care of by the MC Angela on the day and really appreciated all of the little moments she gave us to have five minutes to ourselves as a newly married couple and take it all in. The grounds of the venue are beautiful and allowed us to get some fabulous photos. From the moment we started getting ready, to the final dance, everything was perfect. From the planning process right up to our big day, everything at Balbirnie House was perfect. Katy was super helpful in the lead up the wedding, answering any and all questions we had and putting our minds at ease. On the day, everything was so well organised and the venue looked perfect. Throughout the full process, the wedding co-ordinators were on point. Always checking in, guiding us and answering any questions (in my case, multiple) i was never feeling stressed or worried about the lead up to our day, i was constantly reassured. On the day of our wedding, i was constantly kept up to date with everything, any last minute changes i had were taken care of and staff were on top of it all. I had no stresses, nothing to worry about what so ever. Our master of ceremonies (Angela) was absolutely outstanding. The full co-ordination of the day ran so smoothly, it was incredible. The food was amazing and the service was faultless. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better team to have looked after us on our wedding day, they constantly went above and beyond for everything. Every little detail was impeccable. Our guests gave incredible feedback and most said they had never been to a wedding where everything ran like clock work - and it really did. Above and beyond service!From the first meeting at the wedding fayre, we had a good feeling about Balbirnie, from the professional and welcoming service we received on that day (and the emotional tears I had viewing the Ballroom for the first time), we knew we had chose the right venue. I am so glad we did. They were so easy to want contact during the whole process, no questions felt silly to ask! Leah and Shannon answered alot of our questions throughout! (we were also offered another meeting at the point we had lots of questions). Our wedding planner Shannon was fab from start to finish, ensuring our vision of our day came to life beautifully. David, our Master of ceremonies was fabulous on the day, making sure everything run so smoothly. Going above and beyond during our wedding photos! Manager Angela was amazing, ensuring we were happy with everything afterwards, which was lovely. Overall, our stay way lovely, venue was beautifully decorated, especially during christmas made the day even more magical. Guests were impressed with how organised everything was on the day, the delicious food and how beautiful it was. When we came to view the venue they made us feel so special and had so much attention to detail from the start. We had viewed a few venues in and around Edinburgh and this was by far the best of the best. Communication throughout the whole wedding planning process was just brilliant. Gaynor, Leah, Katy and Shannon always replied promptly and went above and beyond. Even when we had issues with our welcome signs on short notice they sorted this out for us. On the actual wedding day everything went better than we expected. It was perfect from start to finish. All our guests said the same thing and still two weeks later contact us to say how amazing it was. David the MC had everything under control on the day and was super helpful. Our experience from start to finish could not have been better than it was, every staff member we talked to was polite and helpful and made our day so special. We definitely made the right choice booking Balbirnie and we can't recommend it enough. We stayed for 2 nights and dined in the restaurant as well the night before the wedding and the rooms are super spacious and clean. The food in the restaurant is excellent and delicious. Our friend that's gluten intolerant said she has never had better food or bread anywhere else before. They were so accommodating to our guests and us. Also want to mention the girl that worked on check out at Reception on 14th October, she was so kind and nice - Sorry did not get her name. Our day was made so perfect because of a wonderful team, a stunning venue and everything flowed so well! There was always someone to answer my questions over email and we had a few video calls to discuss plans. I reside in England so I was doing my planning at distance and it was so much easier than I imagined! The food was just delicious and I had great feedback from my guests. The house itself is pristine with friendly staff who had the house decorated as per all instructions and moved things around during the day depending where guests were. But most important i think the thing we loved most was how Angela prioritised time for just Tony and I, helping us sneak in little moments alone. The day rushes by and it’s surprising how often you’re so busy! Angela really helped us to relax, take a breather and enjoy time as a very newly married couple and I will always appreciate this. Special thanks to Leah for being our coordinator too - she is super smiley and friendly and so professional. And I would say that Balbirnie is also great value for money too :) My bridesmaids and I also loved how big the pearl suite was - it was perfect and gave us plenty of space for getting ready (I had three bridesmaids and my mum and we didn’t feel on top of each other!) And don’t worry if the Scottish weather takes over - Balbirnie has plenty of rooms and spaces for gorgeous photos! They have a brilliant team who set everything up for us and we didn't have to lift a finger. The staff planned short breaks for us throughout the day which were perfectly timed allowing us to enjoy quiet moments together. Even packing up the following morning was effortless as they brought everything together and offered assistance to pack the cars.
