County Tyrone is one of Northern Ireland’s most scenic counties and has so much incredible Gaelic history. It offers a traditional Irish setting for your wedding day, ensuring your special day is filled with everything you might hope for from an Irish wedding. And with venues spread across the landscape offering sweeping countryside views, it’s a county steeped in natural beauty and heritage. It’s perfect for couples after a romantic rural escape, or for those looking to keep their special day intimate.
Our 2025 Wedding Report revealed that County Tyrone and the rest of Northern Ireland are where 3% of all UK weddings take place. This makes it the quietest area for weddings in the UK, but that’s not because it doesn’t have anything to offer couples – far from it. More than three-quarters (77%) of local couples stay close by for their big day. And with the average cost of a wedding coming in at £18,300 – over £2,000 less than the overall UK average – it can be kind to couples’ budgets, too.
With its warm hospitality, relaxed and welcoming vibes and great value for money, County Tyrone is a favourite for local and destination weddings, whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a large-scale celebration.
Rustic romance is the focus of many weddings in County Tyrone. With its rolling countryside and rustic locations hidden across the landscape, the region is perfect for nature-led celebrations. Couples love to include wildflower bouquets, soft candlelight and earthy colour palettes, while incorporating decor that mirrors this aesthetic. Exposed wood, vintage crockery, linen textures and fairy lights all add to the rustic vibes.
County Tyrone’s heritage also plays a big role in local wedding traditions. Many couples make sure to include traditional cultural elements, such as handfasting ceremonies, Celtic blessings and traditional Irish music.
Food and drink are another big highlight of weddings in the area, with couples choosing to showcase local produce and comfort food. This includes hearty, seasonal dishes using locally sourced beef, lamb and vegetables, which are often served family-style for a relaxed and personal feel. Soda bread, boxty and locally cured meats also commonly make appearances. As for drinks, couples like to include everything from craft beer and Irish whiskey tastings to custom cocktails to ensure everyone gets a sip of something they love.
Minimalism is also on the increase, with couples enjoying smaller, more intimate weddings, regardless of their budget. This also helps eco-conscious couples looking for sustainable vendors and providers who prioritise low-waste practices and foraging where possible, as well as use seasonal ingredients.
Whether you’re looking for a wedding venue with grandeur and luxury or you’re keen to keep things intimate and personal, there’s a wedding venue for everyone in County Tyrone.
You can have a traditional, elegant and grand wedding at the beautiful Lissan House, a 400-year-old venue hidden away in the Irish countryside with plenty of options for your ceremony and reception. Or, The Valley Hotel has a magnificent ballroom where 200 guests can celebrate and party the night away, with the option for an outdoor ceremony if you decide to tie the knot during the warmer months of the year.
If you’d prefer to keep your wedding intimate with just your nearest and dearest in attendance, Quinns Corner and Cohannon Inn are two smaller venues that will make sure you have a celebration no one will forget in a hurry.
Northern Ireland is already a great wedding destination for couples keeping a close eye on their budget, but County Tyrone in particular has some solid choices. Both Mid Ulster Council - Dungannon Registry Office and Omagh & Fermanagh District Council Registrar are lovely locations for you to have a memorable wedding ceremony.
The average cost of a wedding venue in County Tyrone and Northern Ireland as a whole is £5,055, which is around £900 less than the overall UK average. This just shows that you can get more for your money with a wedding in the region, and it’s especially ideal if you have a smaller budget to work with.
Most couples book their County Tyrone wedding venue 12 to 18 months in advance, especially for summer dates and at in-demand locations. However, you may find midweek or off-season availability with a six- to nine-month lead time, particularly in smaller venues or hotels with event spaces that cater for multi-day or larger weddings.
Overall, thanks to its fairly central location in Northern Ireland, County Tyrone has a pretty mild climate, with no notable seasonal extremes. That being said, you should always be prepared for rain at any time of year – but then again, that’s what helps Ireland look so lush and green!
Spring (March - May) is when places like Gortin Glen Forest Park look their absolute best, and with average temperatures around 8°C to 13°C (46°F to 55°F), it’s a great time for a wedding out among nature. Don’t forget to capture some amazing photos in some of the region’s parks and gardens!
Summer (June - August) is the warmest time of year, with average highs between 15°C and 18°C (59°F to 64°F). Long daylight hours give you plenty of time to celebrate, and it’s the best time to enjoy an al fresco wedding, which you can find at venues like The Silverbirch Hotel.
Autumn (September - November) is when the temperature drops to a range of 10°C to 14°C (50°F to 57°F), but there can still be a few days of lingering summer sun before winter kicks in. But, you might not want to rely on that, and make sure your chosen venue has indoor spaces that can accommodate you and your guests.
Winter (December - February) is colder but rarely extreme, with temperatures averaging 3°C to 7°C (37°F to 45°F). That being said, a venue with lots of warm and cosy indoor space, like Mellon Country Inn, should be the go-to.
County Tyrone doesn’t have its own airport and only has a limited rail network, but it’s very easy to reach from across Northern Ireland and by road.
The county is well connected via the A5, A29 and A4, with direct routes to Londonderry, Belfast and Enniskillen. Driving from Belfast takes just over an hour, making it an easy journey for those who have the option to travel by car. By rail, there’s an hourly train service from Lanyon Place in Belfast to Derry-Londonderry, but relying on the train isn’t always the best option.
For guests arriving by air, Belfast International Airport (BFS) is the nearest major hub and is around an hour and 15 minutes away. City of Derry Airport (LDY) is also an option for those coming from Scotland or the north of England, but with fewer flights per day.
When it comes to somewhere to stay, there are lots of hotels and B&Bs around the region, with some also having some big event spaces, allowing you to have an all-in-one wedding day from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep at the end of an amazing day. Hotels including Glenavon House Hotel, The Fir Trees Hotel, Greenvale Hotel and The Royal Hotel are all lovely hotel wedding venues that make for great considerations.
