It might be a long way to Tipperary, but it’s well worth the trip if your heart lies there. Whether you're after a romantic ruin, a grand old manor, or just a proper knees-up in a local pub with all your favourite people, Tipperary's got something special up its sleeve.
Beautiful and rural, County Tipperary is a healthy mix of everything Ireland has to offer. Grand castles, rolling hills, lots of sheep, and a sea of pubs that serve a cracking Guinness are just the tip of the iceberg with this gorgeous county. Whatever your wedding plans, County Tipperary has a way of making them feel that little bit more magical. There’s space to breathe, views that’ll knock your socks off, and a lovely, laid-back vibe that takes the stress right out of planning.
And you’ll love the price point. The average Irish wedding comes in at around £18,300 (approximately €21,600), around £2,500 (approximately €2,900) or 10% less than the UK average of £20,822 (approximately €24,000). It’s the winning combination of a low cost of living and high quality of life that makes Tipperary such a winner. Whether you're splashing out or sticking to a budget, your money tends to go a little further here, which means more room for the fun stuff—like that extra round at the bar! Baby Guinness, anyone?
Garden party glam is all the rage in County Tipperary. Think tea dresses, bunting, afternoon tea wedding breakfast, and champagne served in vintage teacups. It’s relaxed but classy—like Bridgerton meets a country fair. Perfect for couples who want a laid-back vibe without scrimping on the wow factor.
Rustic elegance is another biggie, with barn venues, fairy lights, and wildflower bouquets taking centre stage. Pair it with locally sourced food and an Irish folk band, and you've got yourself a warm, welcoming celebration that feels totally personal. Don’t forget the classic Land Rover (or tractor!) as a wedding car, and your theme is sealed.
And for those going all out? Castle weddings are very much a thing here. Whether you go full-on fairytale romance or introduce more subtle accents, County Tipperary's gorgeous venues and dramatic backdrops are like something out of a Netflix period drama. Encourage guests to dress to impress and lean into the magic. Think velvet suits, vintage jewellery, and maybe even the odd cape if you’re feeling bold.
It’s quality over quantity in County Tipperary. While there are only seven Bridebook-approved wedding venues, each one really packs a punch in terms of offering. No matter your style or vision, you’re sure to find something that fits the bill.
Take Kilshane House, for example. This elegant country house can host up to 260 guests, meaning it’s the perfect place for those planning an all-out celebration. The gorgeous orangery is a unique and beautiful place to get married, surrounded by lush plants and flooded with natural light. But, if that doesn’t take your fancy, there’s a grand ballroom, breakfast rooms, and a ton of outdoor spaces for you to consider. Prices start at €150 per head, so while it is a little pricey, it’s worth it for the sheer luxury you experience.
Looking for something more regal? Great National Ballykisteen Hotel is the place for you. Set in 170 acres of stunning grounds and with gorgeous views of the Galtee Mountains, it offers the perfect mix of elegance and comfort. It’s ideal for couples who want that "country estate" feel without the country estate price tag (prices start at €60 per head!). With flexible packages, a dedicated wedding team, and plenty of on-site accommodation for guests, it’s a solid choice for a stress-free, all-in-one celebration.
Another great option for a budding prince or princess is Bansha Castle. This 300-year-old beauty is full of old-world charm and character, perfect for couples who want a touch of fairytale without the fuss. You can hire the entire castle for your wedding, giving you and your guests exclusive use of the grounds, the historic interiors, and even a few roaring fireplaces if you're planning a cosy winter ‘do’. Prices are available by request only (very fancy!), but word on the street is that it's more affordable than you’d think.
If you fancy something a little more traditional, Anner Hotel in Thurles is a gorgeous, 4-star hotel with a ton of experience in the wedding trade. Whether you're a complete beginner or know exactly what you want, they can bring your vision to life. Prices start at €72 per head with no minimum headcount, so it's a brilliant option for couples planning something a bit smaller. Plus, it’s conveniently located in the town of Thurles, and is a 6- minute drive or half-hour walk from the train station. Perfect for those travelling from afar!
Venue prices in County Tipperary are a little higher than the average Irish venue. Prices start at €60 per head and go all the way up to €235 per head. Most venues do offer flexible packages, so there’s plenty of room to shape your day around your budget and priorities. What’s more, you can usually get a substantial discount if you decide to marry off-peak or mid-week. Speak to the venue directly, and you might be surprised at what’s possible.
County Tipperary’s rural status means it’ll take a little longer than average to plan your wedding here. Venues get booked up quickly, and there are a limited number of suppliers to go around. So, the earlier you start, the better. Most couples book their venue here around 18 to 24 months in advance, especially if they’ve got their heart set on a weekend date in spring or summer.
That said, if you're a bit more flexible, for example, open to a mid-week wedding or tying the knot in the quieter months, you might just snag your dream venue with a little less notice (and maybe even a cheeky discount!). The key is to get chatting with venues early, ask loads of questions, and don’t be afraid to pencil in a few options while you weigh things up. Tipperary might be a bit more relaxed than the bigger hotspots, but when it comes to weddings, it still pays to be ahead of the game.
We hate to break it to you, but it’s not the Costa Del Tipperary. That means you’ll want to plan for a bit of everything—sunshine, showers, and the occasional gust of wind that threatens to take your veil with it. Tipperary’s weather can be a bit unpredictable (read: very Irish), but that’s all part of the charm, right?
Spring (March-May) brings temperatures of between 4°C and 15°C, so an outdoor wedding is definitely on the cards. Although there can be a little bit of rain, County Tipperary’s rolling hills and blooming flowers will more than make up for a little drizzle. Talk to your venue about a Plan B if you have your heart set on an outdoor wedding. Although it can be beautiful, and a marquee will stave off the worst of the rain, it’s still worth having an indoor option lined up.
Summer (June-August) weddings are the pinnacle of County Tipperary weddings. With a good chance of sunshine and temperatures sitting comfortably between 14°C and 18°C (sometimes a bit higher if the weather plays nice), it’s the best shot you’ve got at a dry, warm day. Gardens are in full bloom, the days are long, and the warm weather puts everyone in a good mood. Perfect for lawn games, outdoor drinks receptions, and golden-hour couple shots that look straight out of a rom-com.
Autumn (September-November) is another beautiful time to get married in County Tipperary. Temperatures range between 6°C and 13°C, so it’s mild without being cold, and crisp without being completely freezing. If you’re getting married towards the end of aAutumn (mid- October to November), it’s definitely worth having some warming touches up your sleeve. Things like blankets or a hot chocolate bar will go a long way in helping your guests stave off the chill.
Winter (December-February) brings its own special kind of magic to County Tipperary. With temperatures ranging from 6°C to 10°C, an outdoor wedding is off the table (unless you’re very brave). But, what you lose in sunshine, you more than make up for in atmosphere. Winter weddings can be absolutely magical. Wrapped in the warm arms of the festivities and surrounded by twinkling lights, it’s the perfect time for a celebration that feels romantic and a little bit enchanted. Lean into it with fur trimmed bridesmaid dresses and warming hot toddies during cocktail hour.
County Tipperary’s rural setting means getting around can be a little tricky. Don’t get us wrong—where there’s a will, there’s a way. But, it’s not as straightforward as getting around somewhere like Dublin or Belfast.
For those coming from further afield, major ports like Dublin and Belfast are usually the easiest way to arrive. Regular ferries from Holyhead, Liverpool, and Fishguard are a fun and funky way to cross the Irish Sea. For those coming from Europe or the Americas, flights into Dublin (DUB) or Shannon (SNN) airport are your best bet. From there, it’s a couple of hours by car or train to get into the heart of Tipperary. Shannon is a bit closer and a lot less hectic than Dublin, so if you’re flying in and hiring a car, it’s a nice, easy option.
Once in County Tipperary, there are trains and buses that’ll get you into the main towns like Thurles, Clonmel, and Tipperary Town. Slight drawback—the most beautiful spots tend to be tucked away in the countryside. Great for the atmosphere, not so much for Uber availability! Getting a car is your best bet if you’re getting married off the beaten track. Encourage guests to double up or lift share if a number of them are coming from away.
Alternatively, consider organising a shuttle bus to help your guests get from A to B. It’s a small detail that goes a long way in keeping things stress-free, especially for those travelling from abroad or not familiar with the area. Plus, it means everyone can let their hair down without worrying about designated drivers or navigating country roads in the dark.
Alternatively, pick a wedding venue that doubles up as a hotel, such as Charleville Park Hotel & Leisure Club. They usually make special allowances so that you can block-book rooms for your guests. Some even throw in a discounted rate as part of your wedding package. Talk to your venue about how many rooms you might need and how they’ll be designated. It’s a great way to show your guests “I’m thinking of you” when planning your special day.
