If you are looking for a wedding venue with lovely grounds and historic charm in the City of Shoalhaven, consider Merribee House. It is in the suburb of Numbaa, at the Comerong Island Road.
Merribee House sits on 7 acres of stunning farm ground and manicured gardens. It features a 19th-century farmhouse, accommodation and flexible wedding packages. There are plenty of options on the ground for your ceremony, preparation, wedding photo shooting and cocktail hour.
This venue is available for a three-day hire, giving you plenty of options for your wedding day and pre-wedding activities.
Indoor & Outdoor Facilities at Merribee House
This beautiful venue has 30 separate outdoor garden rooms and function areas, indoor event spaces and accommodation units for 20 people.
Ceremony locations at Merribee House property are vast, but most couples prefer the following:
- The Rose Garden: Spectacular garden on the back side with rows of blooming roses and beautiful aromas
- The Maywild and Lavender Paddock: Old pioneer’s cottage amidst charming lavender paddock; wet weather option
- The Secret Garden: Intimate outdoor space
After the ceremony, it is time for an alfresco cocktail hour in the garden and your wedding photo shoot! Cocktail hour service includes beers, champagne, wines, and other refreshing non-alcoholic drinks. You can stay close to the ceremony area or pick a different spot in the garden for your pre-reception service.
Wedding Reception at Merribee House
Select one of the following reception sites:
- The George Street: Lined with Chinese Elm trees providing shade and a lovely ambience, includes a long table; setup resembles the style of grand French soirées
- The Crepe Myrtles: Outdoor dining setup with long tables along Crepe Myrtles trees decorated with fairy lights
- The Barn: Indoor reception hall with high ceilings and large windows
Indoor wedding hall accommodates up to 160 people, while outdoor function areas host a maximum of 120 people. The indoor wedding hall includes a spacious verandah and an alfresco dancefloor.
Catering at Merribee House
The culinary team at Merribee House offers curated wedding menus based on your preferences for the whole duration of your wedding, including welcome dinner on day one, wedding meal with breakfast, light lunch and main meal and recovery breakfast on the third day.
For a main meal on your wedding day choose between:
- Grazing tables
- Canapés
- Share-style meal
- Plated meal
Reception essentials, such as plates, glassware, cutlery, crockery linen and napkins, are included with the venue rental fee. The fee covers service staff, set-up and pack-down, table menus and late-night snacks, too.
You can pay for drinks based on consumption or combine beverage packages with the food.

- EEd25/02/2025Be carefulBe carefulRead carefully before booking Merribee as your wedding venue. I really wish I could give a different review for Merribee. The venue and grounds are lovely, the staff work hard to keep them beautiful. But for as long as the operations are handled by the current venue manager Emma, I would be very cautious about having your wedding here. 1. Emma will try to privately upsell you on her own wedding planning services - by lying about what the venue does and doesn’t support. It is very difficult to get a clear answer on what is or isn’t covered by the venue fee from someone who is trying to make money on the side for her own business. 2. We didn’t engage her services, and felt punished as a consequence. Emails would go unanswered for months. She didn’t show up to our site inspection 3 days before our wedding due to a “clash” despite it being booked months in advance. Calls would get screened and not returned. We asked for an alternate point of contact and none was provided. We actually had very little need to get in touch, but the things we required were really important in terms of organising vendors and suppliers - and not being able to get anyone from Merribee to answer an email or take a call was incredibly frustrating given you’re paying ~$20,000. 3. After the wedding we were accused of stealing a pair of sunglasses. These had been found the day before by the celebrant, which we passed around our guests and handed in to staff once we couldn’t find the owner. Emma put these in the kitchen, misplaced them, and then told us someone had taken them and we needed to return them. 4. Merribee is supposed to return your bond in full within 4 weeks. We have had it confirmed multiple times that our bond will be returned in full - but are still waiting after months of follow up, multiple emails, calls etc. No communication about thousands of dollars that they owe us and Emma can’t be found. Again, it is a bizarre system - with a single point of failure in someone who simply does not do the bare minimum when it comes to responding to enquiries or requests. Weddings are a lot of work, and a lot of money. Merribee is a beautiful venue that is being let down by the unprofessionalism of it’s venue manager. It either needs to hire more customer support staff, change management, or prevent it’s staff from trying to operate side businesses by scaring guests into paying more for the exact services they’ve already been paid for.
