What is your most memorable wedding?
The most memorable wedding for me was that of Laura & Jack's at Clava Mains! I'm a man who loves his grub and the BBQ food on offer for dinner was amazing! The band was playing all my favourite pop-punk - Blink-182, Sum 41, Green Day etc - and I can't forget what a laugh Laura & Jack were! Check out their video on my website or YouTube channel!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Relaxed, Modern, Fun, Tailored and Romantic
What about your business are you most proud of?
I've been working commercially for myself for 5 years now under RedBeard Productions. I'm most proud of the slight swing to successfully breaking into what has become a stale and somewhat dated market for wedding films here in the Highlands. Bringing a fresh vibrancy is probably what I'm most proud of.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
I'm currently in the middle of planning my own wedding so I now know this first hand - do what makes you happy, choose the food and music that makes you happy, choose the venue that makes you happy; just remember that it's you and your partners day and you don't need to impress anybody or do something you don't want to do.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I saw a couple find out the sex of their unborn baby at a wedding and that was really special to be a part of and to document for them. It was a girl!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
If you get in touch with me I'll email you back to confirm your date is available then I'm happy to have a phone call or Zoom to answer any questions you may have. Once you've made up your mind then I will send you an invoice to book in the date and a contract and then once that's all sorted you're booked in! A month or so before your wedding we'll have another call to go over the day. On the day I'll film as agreed upon and then for the edit I try and get the trailer to you at least 2 days after the wedding then the highlights and full film to follow!
What is the most exciting thing you have caught on camera?
The most exciting thing I've caught on camera at a wedding has to be some American's, English and Canadian's find out that the Scots don't mess about with the spinning when it comes to a good old fashioned Strip the Willow! Probably a lot of arm bruises from that one.
What is the one film you wish you had directed and why?
Maybe a bit out of left field but I would have loved to have directed The Big Short or Rob Roy!
What is your favourite soundtrack to put to a wedding video?
The soundtrack changes with the couple based on the overall vibe of the wedding but my favourite is to sprinkle audio from the vows or speeches throughout the footage.
Describe how you got into videography.
I graduated in Digital Media from Robert Gordon University and landed a job as a videographer for a PR company in Inverness. I realised I could offer my services to a wider range of clients so I started RedBeard Productions and since then have created content for NC500, Visit Inverness Loch Ness, Visit Scotland, TV ads for Simpsons Garden Centre, films for the German Maritime Museum and many many more amazing clients over the years!
