The venue beautifully combines historic character with contemporary design, featuring bright, open spaces, exposed brickwork, and sweeping views across the river - the perfect backdrop for your special day.
A former Elizabethan coaching inn, The Great House is our original clubhouse, and award-winning wedding venue, featuring a dedicated event space for up to 100 seated guests (200 standing), 49 bedrooms and popular Coppa Club restaurant, serving a selection of classic and Mediterranean dishes.
Our dedicated event space, The Lodge, is licensed to host legal ceremonies, and enjoys doors that open out onto its own private terrace and lawn, which overlooks the River Thames - perfect for an outdoor ceremony or reception drinks, to enjoy bubbles and canapés in the summer sun. Want to make a grand entrance, why not arrive by boat? With our own private jetty you can step straight off the water and onto the aisle, for that picture-perfect ceremony.
Our on-site accommodation, includes 49 individually designed bedrooms, blending contemporary comfort with the charm of historic architecture. Situated across four distinct buildings - including the Elizabethan Coach House - each room features thoughtful touches like luxury bedding, rain showers, and retro-style fridges.

- BBelinda & Rhys09/02/2025One of the best decisions we madeOne of the best decisions we madeI will try and keep this succinct, but we had our wedding at the Great House in September 2024 and overall it was one of the best wedding supplier decisions we made! Every detail was so thoughtful and imo they went above and beyond: - There were a few dietary requirements in our guest list, which were catered for without having to compromise on the overall menu (our sole GF guest was approached with her own canapé platter, she was overjoyed to say the least) - I stayed the night before in the clocktower suite with a bridesmaid and our venue coordinator arranged for food to be brought over from the restaurant so that we didn't have to bump into our guests who were also staying over. - They gave me late checkout at the clocktower suite and moved all my things from the suite to the wedding couple room for me. This meant we didn't have to book it for 2 nights, as we didn't have any use for a big suite on the wedding night itself. - There were a number of DIY elements which the venue set up perfectly for us. Especially, our bud vases with faux flowers, which I handed over in boxes with some instructions, but the real detail I left to the venue and they nailed it without needing to check in with me. They also packed everything away at the end of the night and left it to be picked up in the morning. Just generally, the venue is fantastic: - The food was legendary, months later all my family is still raving about it, like I said everyone was catered for but the quality and taste of everything was excellent. We had a complimentary food tasting in November 2023 but you also get to try the canapés if you go to one of their wedding open days. - Being on the river is so special and unique, we made the most of it by chartering a river boat during the cocktail hour. Our photographer took us down the footpath for golden hour photos and they are lovely. - The layout of the venue is perfect for us, there were different places for people to gather or hang out, but you never felt cut off from the party (even when in the igloo, which was another unique touch). - Cocktails were delicious, we chose 4 from the menu (as there's too many for the staff to make otherwise), and they wrote it up on the blackboard for our guests to see. - Might just be our good luck, but my husband's family loves Guinness, and between us booking the venue and the actual wedding date, it finally made its way onto tap in the venue... A happy coincidence, but if it wasn't on tap then the staff would have gone to the other bar to pour then brought it back to us, so no problem really. Only a couple of things went awry: - They were painting the hallway outside my suite and I had a huge wedding dress... The decorator got a telling off by the coordinator so I think this was a miscommunication internally. - The sound system cut out during my aisle walk, and the microphones were cutting out during the speeches. I have been assured that they have/will replace the whole system, and we were compensated for this after our wedding and are satisfied with the outcome. (If you're concerned about this, just ask them!) Honestly, the team at Streatley are fabulous, everything went exactly as planned - right down to the surprise of the singing waiter! Everyone was amazing and super friendly and helpful.we were both quite sad when it was all over, we would have loved to do it all over again! The ceremony was just magical, the food was perfect and the drinks reception was wonderful. Hennes nailed it! What is your No.1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Make it personal. Try to add any small (or big) touches, such as personalised wedding favours, table names or something unique to you!
What’s your favourite personal touch you’ve seen at a wedding?
Being able to arrive at the venue by boat is a great personal touch. Stepping from the boat onto the aisle for an outdoor ceremony, with the sun shining, is such a great moment.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?
Our Secret Garden, tucked away at the end of the garden with it's festoon lighting, or the bridge over the River Thames - it doesn't get much better than that.
Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?
We couldn't possibly say ;)
What’s your favourite canapé?
Our fennel seeded sausage rolls with mustard dip are always super popular with guests, and are the first ones to go!
What’s your favourite midnight treat?
Our evening snacks menu has a great range of options, to keep you going into the evening. My favourite is the mac n' cheese 😋
What is your venue's most unique feature?
Our riverside location, with private lawns makes a great location for a summer wedding.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
The people. Everyone at The Great House is friendly and welcoming, it's great to work with such an amazing, supportive team who work hard to give our guests the best experience possible.
