AVOID!We chose Stanley House as our wedding venue in June 2024 due to its charm, supposed ratings and the lovely grounds surrounding the buildings - what a mistake! The red flags began a few months after we booked. The venue has a constant turnover of staff, to the point we had 4 different wedding co-ordinators over a 12 month period which definitely impacted some of the following issues. Early on we were asked for all the email addresses for our guests staying for them to send over booking links for the rooms. One month before our wedding, we still had our guests trying to contact the venue to book rooms and being faced with answering machines and nobody picking up the phone or replying. The wedding co-ordinators were useless and I had to co-ordinate all the rooms myself to pay. This was already unnecessary stress before my wedding. Then comes the day itself, no drinks provided to the room in the morning, having to ring down for breakfast 5 times, stuff nobody should be doing first thing on their wedding day - it got worse from there. Pre-ceremony we had paid for additional drinks for our guests upon arrival. Stanley House poured and left the drinks out over two hours before our guests arrived, leaving them warm and in the corner of the room where nobody could find them. The ceremony went as planned despite being delayed due to poor co-ordination, but the real issues started at our wedding breakfast. The food was completely different to what had been agreed on the tasting day, and the wine was the cheapest they could find. When asked where the wine we had chosen was, we were told by the young staff that “we were told to use up what we had left”, to which we complained and had to remove all wine from the tables. They then lost my wedding favours and other decorations, causing unnecessary stress; and also overcharged my guests at the bar due to their young and severely under-experienced staff. In the evening, they had no meals prepared for my vegetarian and vegan guests, and were unable to confirm allergens for my guests with allergies. Guests who went to their rooms were given keys to other people’s rooms and ended up napping in the wrong beds! By the time we got to cutting our cake, we were completely fed up. The knife broke during our cake cutting and then they proceeded to get our first dance wrong. At this point I was in tears and our day had been ruined. The reason i’m posting this now, 10 months later, is because it has taken up to now for us to get anywhere with our complaint. The venue has been absolutely appalling and has shown no remorse for how we were treated, and only due to intense persistence, was I able to get us a less than 10% refund. This business is a money making one, they do not care about your feelings or how much one day can mean to you, they are merely there to make as much as they can from you as a number. We were given the opportunity for redemption at the recent Mamma Mia brunch and as you can see from the other reviews here, that was just as shambolic. Broken promises (told we would be only wedding on the day, right up until 3 days before when we dropped our decor off) but on the actual day there was another massive wedding on site at the same time, interupting our photos. along with roadworks on site affecting access and the beauty of the venue. They lost and damaged our decor, admitted that they had done it but just quoted their T's & C's where they accept no liability to get out of reimbursing us. Ignored our complaints for 7 weeks after the wedding. Venue staff harrassed us repeatedly during our photos to move our cars to allow access for guests at the other wedding that shouldnt even have been on at the same time. - MMr & Mrs Large15/06/2022Unforgettable!Unforgettable!We booked Stanley house for our wedding back in 2018 and we instantly loved the whole feel of the venue and we knew from that moment on it was a special place and would hold a lot of memories for us.. I honestly couldn’t speak any more highly of Stanley house as a wedding venue, but more importantly the staff, they are a special kind of people and go above and beyond to help you out and make your experience there that little bit more special. We were supposed to get married in May 2020, but lockdown had other ideas and so we eventually got our day on the 16th April 2022, and it was well and truly worth the wait. Natalie, well Natalie our wedding coordinator has become my new best friend, and is the nicest person you’ll ever meet. Honestly this lady has been incredible from the moment we met. She went above and beyond for us in all the situations we were faced with and made the whole experience an unforgettable one. A moment I will never forget was on our wedding day she was the first person to greet us as we got out of the car, to later on be told that she was actually supposed to be off on annual leave as her Dad was over to visit from abroad, this shows how much of a lovely person she is, and how committed and dedicated she is to her job, and this will always mean a lot to us Natalie. There are too many instances I could mention where Natalie went above and beyond, but please know we will always be thankful. Through the lockdowns we stayed in touch via emails and we kept each other’s spirits up when things weren’t exactly great, so I’ll always be grateful for that. Natalie is an absolute credit to Stanley house and I can’t speak any more highly of her. Whenever I phoned her/emailed her I instantly felt at ease and I can hand on heart say I never ever felt stressed out, I always knew everything was in hand, and that’s the kind of wedding coordinator everyone needs. So all that’s left to say is thank you. Joe, well Joe.. What can we say other than fantastic. He was absolutely brilliant, we had plenty of laughs and I knew at our meeting a couple of days before the wedding we were going to have a blast on the day with him, you really made our day Joe! He was our go to person on our day and he excelled in everything. We had guests coming up to us asking for his name as they said they wanted to go and personally thank him for all that he did for us. Anything we wanted doing he was there to just sort it, so thank you Joe for all of your efforts, you really are a credit to the team. Thank you Joe. The food was incredible, faultless and we will certainly be back to sample more of the food! The cheesecake on our wedding day was unreal. The cleanliness of the whole hotel is second to none, the rooms were spotless and we had the most amazing stay as did all of our guests. So all in all a big thank you to all of the chefs, the bar staff, the reception staff, the cleaners and all the people behind the scenes who made our day what it was, there are too many people to thank individually but please know we are very grateful for what you did. It was simply fantastic and we couldn’t have dreamt of a better place to get married. We will be back for sure and I for sure have already told Natalie that I will be staying in touch with my emails!! It is a lovely building with beautiful features and surroundings. The staff are very friendly, professional and cannot do enough to help to ensure everything is perfect. Our day was planned to perfection with the help of Maddison and ran smoothly from start to finish with the help of Joe and the rest of his team. The bedrooms were all immaculate and beautifully presented. There is a good variety of food which is suitable for various dietary requirements and tastes amazing. We received many compliments from our guests about the hotel and its location as well as comments on the helpfulness and friendliness of all of the staff who was part of our day.Myself and my husband fell in love with Stanley house upon our initial visit and we instantly knew that this was our chosen wedding venue. It is a lovely building with beautiful features and surroundings. The staff are very friendly, professional and cannot do enough to help to ensure everything is perfect. Everything from start to finish was absolutely incredible, nothing was ever too much for the staff or the venue. Many of our guests commented on the fantastic service throughout our day and throughout our stay. Due to Covid - this was the 3rd time we've had a wedding date set at the venue, each and every time Stanley House have been professional, welcoming, understanding and made us feel at complete ease. I first met my wedding co-ordinator Maddison in 2018 and I knew straight away, the venue was right for us. Maddisons caring and welcoming nature made it feel like we were genuinely cared about and it started our wedding planning process very well. She kept me up to date with everything every step of the way including on our wedding day. I felt like an extremely calm bride on my wedding day and this was down to feeling completely comfortable with how the day was going to run in their hands. Stanley House will always be an extremely special place to us, it's just simply spectacular, the grounds, the manor house, the accommodation, the spa...everything. I would definitely recommend this venue, I'm already looking forward to going back.I wish I could give more than 5 stars! You made our day so special helped to run it smoothly. Although we did have a hiccup with the priest going to the wrong venue! Which delayed us but Josh kept checking with me and reassured us that everything was ok. We felt so looked after and I didn’t have to worry about anything. My guests were thoroughly impressed with the venue and food. And we achieved what we wanted to, a beautiful informal celebration meal with family and friends. I went up to the barn yesterday afternoon to pick up some flowers and the prayer mats we’d forgotten to bring home and a couple from Preston were having a look for their wedding. I showed them some of our pictures and what we did they were blown away. I hope they booked with you. Chris and Aiden were fantastic and provided fantastic customer services nothing was too much for them. They were offering us advice and solutions which was fantastic and helped the evening run very smoothly. Hi Maddison, I just wanted to say a massive thankyou to you both and all your staff. Your communication and attention to detail was brilliant from start to finish. You helped me talk things through even not on shift with such professionalism. Pulling off a wedding that size was no mean feet and you made it look easy. The service and food on the day was impeccable. The operational staff worked there bottoms off which of course means josh and his communication with me on the day was amazing. It literally was the best day and night of our lives and Stanley house (and you 😉) played such a huge part in making that happen We will never be able to say thank you enough. Honestly we can’t thank you, Natalie, Joe, Josh and all the staff enough for everything you did to make our wedding day amazing from start to finish. We would like to thank you for your support through the incredibly challenging time we found ourselves planning our wedding in, you were all amazing and a massive help to us. We had the most perfect day and had so many compliments on how amazing the venue was including the room and hotel. The food got SO many compliments and all our guests had the most amazing experience at Stanley house. I think you can tell from the pictures how magical our day was! Again thank you all SO much.
