Description

Midelney Manor is a completely unique and romantic Elizabethan manor house set in the heart of the Somerset countryside. A magical setting for any wedding or celebration. Stepping out of the house and into the 17th Century walled garden definitely has the “wow” factor and makes an idyllic setting for drinks and canapés. Beyond this garden lie several others including the Round Garden, which is perfect for a large marquee or tipi. Ancient oak trees, flower filled borders and well thought out planting create a beautiful English country garden. Set in the heart of the garden lies the beautiful 18th Century Potting Shed. This huge barn has lovely old stonework and ancient beams covered in 1920’s flower show prize cards. It has many uses including, a bar lounge, ceremony or reception space. There is a fabulous rustic bar with chesterfield sofas, eclectic furniture, Persian rugs and some old Cely Trevilian portraits on the wall!

Each wedding here is completely bespoke and unique and therefore priced accordingly. As a rough guide prices for 100 people start from approximately £18,000 which includes exclusive use of Midelney, the gardens and the Potting Shed, two nights accommodation, traditional pole marquee and wedding breakfast. These are priced separately according to which suppliers you decide to use.

Simply amazing Simply amazing
From the first time we met Alice, we were instantly at ease. Alice was calming, kind and full of knowledge and experience. We simply fell in love with Midelney and its beautiful grounds. Every guest and even some of the vendors were amazed and wanted to come back again! Our wedding day was just the best. Alice was organised, always on hand and working hard behind the scenes to make the day everything we had dreamed of! We cannot thank Alice enough and recommend Midelney for anyone searching for the perfect venue. From the first time we met Alice, we were instantly at ease. My husband and I were recently married at beautiful Midelney Manor. We can’t express enough how grateful and lucky we are to have stumbled upon such a brilliant venue and wonderful host, Alice. The grounds themselves are rustic and enchanting, and all our guests were blown away by the beauty of the house and gardens. We used the potting shed for the ceremony and had a marquee in the walled gardens for dining and dancing, although there were many different configurations and spaces we could have used to match different personalities, number of guests and themes. Beyond the wonderful venue itself, the host Alice was incredible. From the first viewing until after the big day, Alice was always genuinely willing to offer advice and help. When planning, she was interested to hear our thoughts and ideas, offer advice and shared a very detailed list of brilliant suppliers and caterers that she’d had a great experience with before. Alice was always willing to speak to our suppliers and on the day was accessible to make changes to suit us and make sure that our day was as stress-free as possible. She even ran the bar in the evening offering a brilliant range of cocktails. For us, this combination immediately made Midelney incomparable to other venues and we couldn’t imagine our special day anywhere else. It was honestly the best day of our lives celebrating with our loved ones and Alice made the day run perfectly by being calm, helpful and fun all at the same time! From the moment we walked through to the gardens at Midelney, we knew it was the venue for us. The walled rose garden, the potting shed, the forest behind, it has such beauty and variety. And the fact that we could make it our own with our decisions and decor was even more special. Alice was so warm and welcoming from the word go and helped us with so many details, from choosing fabulous suppliers that suited our style and budget perfectly, to helping us organise our booze (vital!) to assisting with last minute asks on the day. She was calm and so helpful throughout the day and I know so much work went on behind the scenes with the various suppliers to make it the magical day that it was. Midelney West is also absolutely perfect for the bridal party - beautifully decorated and really well kitted out accommodation, and the fact that you can stay the night before made it even more wonderful. From the moment we came to view Midelney Manor and met the wonderful Alice, we knew instantly this venue had something unique and special to offer and we couldn’t pass on the opportunity to having our wedding reception here. Alice and her team made us feel so welcome from the beginning, it felt like the venue itself was an extension of our family home. The beautiful and historic venue was the perfect and secluded backdrop we wanted for our big day. The grounds were beautifully cared for and there was plenty of space for family and friends, both young and old. We hired a marquee to use on the grounds which complimented the wonderfully characteristic potting shed. Alice was at the end of the phone and email and offered her support continually throughout the entire process. We rented Midelney West for our family and it was so enjoyable having family so close by whilst my husband and I stayed in the log cabin which is also on site. The biggest draw to hiring Midelney was the opportunity to hire it all weekend from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. This allowed us to have a relaxed and fun day on the Friday decorating the marquee and getting ready for the big day. We can’t recommend Alice and Midelney enough for anybody who would like to have a beautiful, quintessential English backdrop with tons of support and cherishable memories to add. We picked Midelnay because it was gorgeous of course but mainly for Alice (who owns it) she made everything flow seamlessly even with the rain! My husband and I had our wedding reception at Midelney Manor in May 2025, and I can not thank Alice and her family enough for giving up part of their beautiful home for a weekend to host us. From start to finish, Alice has been incredibly welcoming and very helpful in the planning process. Alice's list of suppliers are second to none (Ella-Phant Kitchen and Soul Dough in particular for our wedding breakfast and evening food), and her expertise, communication and guidance helped create our perfect day, with no detail forgotten. Midelney Manor feels like an intimate and exclusive venue due to there only being 10 weddings held a year, this really appealed to us as a couple who wanted to stear clear from wedding factories. Alice allowed us to have our wedding completely as we wished with no ties or set packages. We would recommend Midelney Manor to everyone we meet and we hope someone we know chooses to get married there just so we can go back! We had the most amazing wedding at Midelney Manor. Alice was an absolute dream to work alongside and was genuinely invested in making our day the best it could be. Alice was always at the end of the phone, was full of suggestions and liaised with our suppliers proactively and effectively, helping to take the load off us where possible. Midelney Manor has several areas you can choose to hold your ceremony with an absolutely beautiful wet weather location which is full of character and won’t feel like a secondary option if the weather isn’t kind to you. Then it’s just a hop, skip and a jump to your drinks reception and wedding breakfast in the grounds of the manor! In the run up, our weather was looking unpredictable but Alice was checking every weather app and doing everything in her power to ensure we could have the day as planned as much as possible. The morning of, Alice was coordinating with all our suppliers allowing us to be able to enjoy the morning without stressing, we knew that our day was in safe hands and any decisions she made due to weather would have been carefully considered. All our guests couldn’t stop raving about how beautiful the venue was! I cannot express how perfect Midelney Manor is as a wedding venue. Myself and my (now) husband were looking to create a barn, rustic, relaxed feeling for our wedding. Midelney Manor is a hidden little gem that we were fortunate enough to find and I am so thankful that we did! From the first meeting with Alice and seeing her gorgeous home, we immediately fell in love and knew this was perfect venue for us! Alice was so warm and welcoming towards us from day one and she put us at ease knowing we could make the day our own and reflect us as a couple. She was extremely helpful and she was always contactable to ask any question or clarify anything. Being able to have the venue all weekend made the build up to the day more special and stress-free. Again, Alice was super accommodating along with her lovely husband – it really was a family event! We were never under any pressure with time, they couldn’t have been more flexible for us which made the whole planning experience even more enjoyable and exciting leading up to the day! Our guests could not compliment the setting enough! The Potting Shed had the rustic, quirky, cosy feeling for the ceremony that we wanted and the gardens provided stunning backdrops for all the photos, along with a beautiful marquee for the wedding breakfast and evening party. Having accommodation on site was fantastic – the online pictures do not do Midelney West justice! It is super spacious to have your wedding party get ready for the day and even better to not have far to travel at the end of the night.
