Michelham Priory is steeped in history dating back to Medieval times but with a fresh, modern approach to weddings which allows our couples to create a bespoke wedding day, or even weekend. Hidden amidst seven acres of beautiful grounds including a Physics Garden, Herb Garden, formal and informal lawns, fruit orchard plus wider grounds bursting with bio-diversity, Michelham Priory has a Medieval gatehouse for the most impressive of entrances, a historic house and jewel-in-the-crown, a stunning Elizabethan wedding barn with vaulted beamed ceiling and its own courtyard garden and private lawns. This is then the focal point for weddings although we encourage our couples and their guests to enjoy all the aspects of this unique wedding venue. We want your wedding to be absolutely unique to you and so we allow a wide choice of caterers and suppliers so that you can work to your own brief and budget. We can host intimate weddings in the House, seating wedding breakfasts of up to 130 in the Elizabethan Barn but can also accommodate much larger numbers should you wish to have a marquee in our Grounds. This works very well for weddings, such as Asian weddings, which require lots of different spaces for different aspects of the day. We allow our couples a three day hire too, so that you and your suppliers have plenty of time to set up. We can also accommodate sumptuous Autumn and Winter weddings. For couples looking for extra support, the experienced and super-creative Blue Door Weddings team at Michelham Priory offer a range of planning and management services to help you fulfil your wedding dreams. We really can make anything happen so if you'd like to be Creative Directors of your wedding day but don't have the time to make it happen, just let us know.

Perfect venue

We had our wedding at Michelham in June 2024 and couldn't be happier! It's a fantastic venue, with the medieval priory, expansive grounds including gardens and orchards, and a fantastic Elizabethan barn. The staff were incredibly helpful, with ongoing communication and support to get everything perfect, and lots of great suppliers who knew the venue well. Our wedding was very outdoorsy and midsummer themed, and the venue was perfect for this with the ceremony on the lawn with a beautiful view over the most, and dinner and dancing in the barn. The grounds were great for kids as well as guests just wanting a wander, we had so many beautiful spots for photos the photographers were spoiled for choice! The staff were all wonderful, with ongoing support before and after and a great team ready to help out on the day. We really felt part of the family there - and we even got to do a bit of medieval archery!

Very romantic setting for weddings.

Michelham is a beatufiul place with so much history. The Physic Garden is wonderful. My eldest nephew was married here and it's a very romantic setting for weddings

A very special place!

A very special beautiful place. Tons of history and atmosphere.

A great day out in the Sussex countryside. We had a lovely time here, it's just so picturesque and steeped in history. The gardens are wonderful, and the house itself is magnificent.

A marvellous 12th century attraction with achingly beautiful gardens and structures. A must-see.
