Or perhaps it’s a family reunion, birth celebration or anniversary. Choosing Mackays Hotel in Wick is the perfect start to your special day. We deliver a personal touch to every event we host. We aim to help you plan, celebrate and remember your very special occasion at Mackays Hotel. Whether you are organising a small family get-together, a birthday or anniversary party, or a full-scale wedding, we can make your plans come to life.
Mackays Hotel is a licensed civil wedding venue and we can offer civil or religious services in the hotel. Your wedding reception can be a simple and very intimate affair in one of our smaller rooms, or grand and impressive in our large suite. Our ballroom is the perfect setting for a sumptuous feast seating up to 150, and accommodating up to 220 for an evening reception.
You will have a dedicated Wedding Co-ordinator who will be with you every step of the way. Whether your celebration is large or intimate, we’ll get to know you and tailor a package to your specific needs.

Initially in our planning we were unsure where we wanted to get married, this was mainly as we live in Caithness however have no family here. We visited a fair number of venues around the highlands and nowhere really felt right.. As soon as we met Ellie and subsequently Murray at the Mackays hotel we were sold. Ellie and Murray are obviously masters of their craft. Their experience coupled with their genuine passion make them the best team to have when organising a wedding (or I imagine any event!) This was clear from the get go. On meeting Ellie and Murray they were so welcoming, warm and calm. This made us feel so much less daunted by the prospect of what we are trying to organise and made everything feel manageable. Ellie and Murray walked us through everything and provided us with so much insight and guidance. This was great as we were genuinely clueless. The hotel were so flexible and facilitating of what wet wanted, this allowed us to fully customise the day to what we wanted. For us, this was the outside ceremony in the gardens at the beautiful Langhills followed by dinner and the reception within the hotel. We also both stayed with our respective wedding parties in the hotels apartments which was so handy! Murray and Ellie kept us on track and organised in the lead up to the date which actually made the whole planning process seamless and stress free. The wedding itself was flawless. From the moment we arrived to drop off decorations to when we left on wedding Boxing Day, we felt like the guests of honour at the hotel. Everyone who works at the hotel was so helpful and lovely. At no point over the weekend did we think about any logistics as we ere so assured Murray and Ellie’s knowledge and understanding of what we wanted. Our whole families felt so welcome at the hotel and were looked after so well. Everything ran without a hitch with Murray, Ellie and Jan keeping things right and supporting us with anything we needed throughout. We will definitely be coming back for the food as well! It’s absolutely amazing! We actually cannot thank Ellie, Murray, Jan and everyone at the Mackays hotel more. IT WAS THE BEST WEEKEND! We were celebrating our engagement and every staff member we dealt with congratulated us, even bringing over a special dessert and posting our picture. We enjoyed the welcome sweets/wee drams in our room! Dinner at the Bistro was excellent and we had a great breakfast in the morning, too. The staff were very welcoming to us and our dogs and we'd recommend the hotel to anyone. It also has the perk of being situated on the world's shortest street! Great value for money, very friendly staff and excellent hospitality and service. We enjoyed the welcome sweets/wee drams in our room! It's so refreshing to be in a hotel that not just pays lip service to guest service, but actually means it. Hotel is next to River Wick in a very good location, the staff are top notch & attentive, room was very clean (appreciate the complimentary tipple) & spacious. The breakfast was very good, the staff on service were extraordinary. Thank you for making our trip so memorable.This hotel has the old school charm, in the best way possible. We brought our dog with us and they couldn’t have been more accommodating - even bringing a plate of sausages for dinner and breakfast. Special mention to Fiona for her warm welcome & hospitality.
