Some places feel just right.
Tucked away in a corner of Essex countryside, Barnfields is based on our small family farm, with a converted barn for intimate occasions, and a tipi meadow for more expansive celebrations, both overlooking the lake.
We host a small number of weddings and events each year, between May and September, which means every booking gets our full attention.
We're for couples and event-makers who want to bring something of themselves to the day. Barnfields is a place with real history, grown through the work of our family over 60 years. We don’t do off-the-shelf days here, it can be whatever you want it to be. Every celebration is different. And that's the point.
We're one venue, with two beautiful options for the backdrop for your big day:
Friendly and organised, we will do everything we can to help you make your day the one you have been dreaming of, and have built relationships with a special group of suppliers to help with this.
What makes the venue special?
Features include:
Hire is either on a dry hire basis or with a package.
The venue is available for just a small number of weddings each year at weekends (Fridays or Saturdays), with a maximum of one wedding or event each week (there will never be two weddings across the two venue options on the same day).
Hire includes exclusive access the day before your wedding and until 2 pm the day after. The space is a good distance from any houses and offers loads of opportunities for you to be creative about how you use it.
Barnfields - we’re the kind of place you find rather than simply book.
Barnfield Weddings & Events is secluded in a beautiful corner of North Essex countryside, on the edge of Sible Hedingham, Essex CO9 3RH, England, GB. 15 minutes from Braintree, an hour from NE London.
The venue is set on a small family farm with a secluded, beautiful, and slightly wild lakeside environment, providing a unique and special backdrop for relaxed outdoor summer weddings, with a pretty converted barn overlooking the lake for smaller weddings year round.
The venue offers a maximum of 8 outdoor weddings and 26 indoor weddings, ensuring exclusivity and a personalized experience.
Beside the lake, both relaxed, boho festival vibes and more formal marquee receptions fit beautifully into The Field, catering to a wide range of wedding styles - we’ve had full on festival vibes, vintage ice cream vans, dhol drummers and club DJs and food trucks, and also lakeside fine-dining by candlelight - it all works beautifully.
Alternatively The Barn works perfectly for intimate gatherings for up 40 people (or add a marquee to accommodate up to 70 guests). Small and perfectly formed, our pretty converted barn overlooks the lake and makes a gorgeous space for smaller celebrations. Here the food is more formal, with sit down meals provided by the skilled catering teams where you can choose the menu.
On the lakeside Field, couples can choose between Dry Hire bookings where they can design everything from start to finish, or packages that include tipis and furniture, allowing customization to create the perfect wedding day.
At The Barn, bookings include furniture, catering, bar and flowers, and there’s plenty of opportunity for couples to personalise their day with other suppliers.
You will have exclusive access from 9am the day before your wedding until 2pm the day after, with no other weddings booked the same week.
There are two outdoor ceremony locations, the woodland and a willow aisle, each offering a naturally special setting for your vows that can be enhanced with flowers and decorations.
Unfortunately we don’t offer legal ceremonies yet.
