Set amongst a stunning backdrop of 85 acres of land, with a rich history dating back to late 18th Century, Backworth Hall was once was the home of Ralph William Grey, a wealthy landowner and gentleman. Backworth Hall is unique, set up as the welfare and recreational centre for the whole of the Backworth coal-mining district, which had over 3000 employees. The miners used to pay sixpence out of their wages to the Social Fund to keep the place going. The Hall is administered by dedicated Trustees, is a non-profit making charity and all funds are used to maintain the Hall and grounds for the benefit of the local community.
Backworth Hall is licensed for wedding ceremonies, providing a truly magnificent backdrop for your wedding day. With a sweeping staircase and a magnificent function room looking out across the garden, there are plenty of photo opportunities and places for your guests to explore whilst enjoying their drinks. Your wedding day may be as intimate or extensive as you wish, Backworth Hall is licensed for 120 people and we have two choices of Wedding Room, Newton or Grey. The Newton Room is ideal for wedding ceremonies and intimate weddings; the Grey Room, with its tall ceiling and breathtaking view, is ideal for your wedding breakfast and evening reception.
