Ancient Barns and Woodland Wedding Venue close to Sudbury, Suffolk (on the Suffolk / Essex border). Alpheton Hall Barns forms part of the ancient settlement of Alpheton Hall at the end of a mile long no through road. Surrounded by rolling countryside, meadows and woodland the Barns are adjacent to Alpheton Church as well as offering Barn and woodland ceremony spaces.
Comprised of two interconnected timber frame barns Alpheton Hall Barns offer plenty of space for your civil ceremony and wedding reception. Restored rather than converted, the Barns still feature their original big Barns doors which can be fully open in good weather allowing the outside in. The ancient honey coloured oak beams and lime plaster interiors together with the black feather-boarded exteriors work with any colour scheme.
The Barns are furnished with tables and chairs and essentially everything you need for your ceremony and wedding reception. The South 'Reception' Barn is strung with a myriad of twinkly fairy lights and has lots of rustic detailing such as big iron hoop lights and vintage wooden ladders all with hanging Edison light bulbs, which look stunning on their own or dressed in foliage or flowers. And you are welcome to add your personal decorations to make it 'your' wedding venue.
Outside guests are invited to explore the heart-shaped wildflower confetti arboretum, the wedding garden with brick drinks terraces, bar cart and space for garden games and the Barns courtyard with woodfired pizza oven, ideal for evening food. Whilst the couple can wander into the gardens, woodland and meadows around the Barns for their couples photographs.
Suitable for both intimate and larger celebrations. Live music is welcome and the Barns have excellent acoustics and space for a Ceilidh or Barn dance should you wish. Open bar permitted with no corkage payable.
The Alpheton Hall Barns is an exclusive use 'blank canvas' venue. Prices are for Barn rental only but local trusted suppliers would be more than happy to put together a food and drinks package for your day or you can choose your own (subject to approval). Owners Nic and Carol have more than 15 years experience in helping couples host their weddings and love that each wedding is personal to the couple
The best weddings are where the couple are incredibly happy with their day. We have had glorious big budget weddings and weddings which by utilising the particular skills of the couple and the talents of friends and family cost significantly less but are really personal and 'them'.
Don't be afraid to ask questions! Hopefully you only do this once and no one expects you to know what you are doing. Your venue (and suppliers) should be more than willing to discuss your options and point you in direction you want to go. We are always happy to give as much or as little help as you want or need to plan your day.
We are always amazed by the originality of our couples .. but if we had a list at the top might be the Harley Davison Ice Cream Trike or the food served from a dinghy under sail or the family singing troupe the list goes on ..
Historic Romantic Rustic Natural Personal
Probably the evening sunset in the arboretum and wild flower garden although in mid October / November our 'green lane' becomes the red, russet, amber lane and is truly breathtaking. In late March / early April the lane to the Barns is lined with daffodils and then there is the little oak bridge by the medieval fish ponds with big old apple tree .. the light from the big open skies.
Yes, several but we maintain high standards of privacy.
The one everyone else has already eaten!
Knowing that everything has gone to plan, our couple have had a day beyond their expectations and we've helped them get there
Easily accessible but you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. The venue offers plenty of inside and outdoor space and wildlife! The Barns are surrounded by organic farmland and we have Buzzards & Red Kites wheeling overhead, a myriad of deer, hares, badgers, owls and bats!
Our reputation - we are a family business and choose to only do a small number of weddings each year. This means that we get to know all our couples individually and even after the wedding many come back to revisit the venue (and us) year after year with their growing families.
