My ceremony style is traditional, respectful, warm and authentic but with plenty of smiles and a modern twist. Your ceremony is such an important part of your day of celebration. Whether your gathering is large or more intimate, I want your ceremony to be the highlight, it may only last around 30 minutes but everyone in your team will remember it long after they've forgotten the delicious food or the beautiful flowers. The key to a successful ceremony is personalisation; everything I write or include in my wedding ceremonies is bespoke for my clients. Their ceremony reflects them, who they are, their values, their beliefs, their humour and friends and family immediately recognise that, which makes the ceremony even more special.
To make the magic happen, I'll come and meet you and we'll have a detailed chat about your vision. Don't worry if you're not sure what you want, I've got plenty of ideas and can give you as much or as little support as you need. You may wish to personalise your vows, include symbolic acts, special readings, poems, involve your family and pets - whatever you want for your ceremony it's my job to make that a reality.
After our initial meeting, I'll draft your ceremony and send it to you and we'll revise and tweak it as many times as needed to get it right for your big day. Nearer the time, we'll meet for a run through (at your venue if possible) so that everyone knows what they're doing and where they're sitting. If I've not worked at your venue before, I'll recce it before we rehearse so that I'm up to speed with the layout.
On the day of your ceremony, I'll be there in plenty of time to make any last minute changes (happens more often than you'd think!), liaise with your other professionals (photographer, florist, event organiser) and generally help out. I don't ever book more than one ceremony in a day, so can accommodate last minute timing changes.
I'll lead your ceremony, guiding you and your partner through every carefully crafted moment before raising a glass in your honour and leaving you to party with your guests. A few days later, I'll send you a copy of your ceremony to remind you of your special celebration.
I've put this first; budgets are important!
For weddings booked in 2025 (even if the ceremony is in 2026) I charge a flat fee of £800.00
This includes all our meetings, my script writing and my time on your day.
The only additional charge is for mileage if our meetings or your venue is more than 50 miles distant from my home, but we will discuss this at the time of booking, so no nasty surprises on my invoice.
No! Humanist weddings are for everyone who wants a meaningful but non-religious celebration.
Humanists UK have been around for more than 80 years and are a registered charity; they're the first organisation to train their celebrants and set the bar high! As well as undergoing extensive training under the guidance of an experienced mentor, Humanist Celebrants have to complete annual CPD and log regular peer reviews. So, if you choose a Humanist Celebrant to be your celebrant - you'll be in safe hands!
Of course, the more the merrier. I've worked with young children bearing wedding rings, singing and even reading poetry (all upstaging the adults!) and dogs are often in attendance too. My Humanist UK fellow celebrant worked with alpaca's at a ceremony this summer; I'm quite jealous!
Yes. If you decide that I'm the right celebrant for you, I'll ask for a £200 deposit to lock in your date in my diary. I'll invoice you for the balance a few weeks before your ceremony date.
No, a Humanist ceremony can be held anywhere - I've conducted ceremonies in gardens, on the beach, in fields, at a theatre - the possibilities are endless!
At the moment, a legal marriage in England has to be conducted either by a minister or by a registrar.
Absolutely and I'll be on hand to advise and support you with these elements.
