Asking the bride's girlfriends to make cakes and having a wedding cake table - it became a competition and all cakes were labelled and enjoyed by the guests throughout the evening!
Initially I think it's important to meet a bride, her groom too if he wants to be involved, and of course ideally her family. We chat and discuss their ideas and I throw more thoughts into the pot. Following this I write with a proposal and a spreadsheet of possible costs, following which I ask the client to sign my Terms of Business indicating that they wish me to start work for them on their event.

A good wedding planner will not divulge exactly what may be going on behind the scenes - she is like a swan paddling away below the surface of the water, but cool, calm and collected on the exterior. That's what I like to think I am like at my events.
