"It was heartening to realise Monika shared our convictions – that a marriage ceremony is a joyous celebration of love rather than a formal sealing of a contract."
The things I truly love about being a celebrant... listening to love stories and a couple's ideas for their very special day and then being creative and turning those ideas, hopes, and dreams into a truly personal ceremony that fits their personality and style. Ceremonies in nature are extra special because they allow me to bring my deep connection with the Scottish landscape into the mix.

all the ceremonies of the north Full Description
I pride myself that all of my ceremonies have the couples at the very centre, their wishes, dreams, ideals & personal style. Whether small & personal, big & bold, short & sweet, or elaborate & rich in rituals, I want to create a truly personal experience that feels comfortable and 'just right' We are lucky to have a unique landscape in Scotland, and the Highlands especially, allowing for ceremonies with the added magic of nature, whether it’s on a beach, an atmospheric woodland or in the mountains. I have a special passion for outdoor ceremonies, unsurprisingly as I am also a Nature Connection guide and an outdoor enthusiast in my personal life, living on a woodland croft with my family and often out in nature in my spare time for slow and mindful activities as well as bigger adventures, wild camping and wild swimming. Because I know the landscape so intimately I love highlighting some of the lesser-known but truly magical ceremony locations hidden around the North Highlands, but I'm equally happy to travel beyond the Highlands to other locations in Scotland. I adore working with couples who look for very unique elopements - travelling in a campervan or on bikes, looking for a ceremony as part of a wild camping trip, involving boats or canoes, remote beaches or lochs. At the same time, a roof over a ceremony can be handy, especially in the Scottish climate - woodland shelters, shepherd huts, lodges, castles or hotels - ceremony magic can be created anywhere! Two more special elements I offer: as an Interfaith Celebrant I work with couples of all faiths and none, incorporating select elements from different faith paths or spiritual outlooks on life, supporting the beliefs and traditions of the wider family, or delivering a person-centred humanist ceremony. And being originally from Austria I also offer ceremonies fully in German, or German-English!

It was heartening to realise Monika shared our convictions – that a marriage ceremony is a joyous celebration of love rather than a formal sealing of a contract. Monika helped make our special day one to remember for all those present. Everyone commented on how much they loved the tone and nature of the service .

A Highland Winter Elopement

All we knew was where we would like to marry and that we wanted to keep it simple, just the two of us. Monika took us by the hand to navigate the many options to make our ceremony both personal & intimate. By detailing our backgrounds, values, beliefs and love of both places and one another, Monika got to really know us. The poems and readings we selected allowed us to truly express how much Sarah and I mean to each other. Monikas considered and thoughtful words skilfully knitted it all together

Summer Beach wedding at Achmelvich

As our ceremony was planned during COVID we were unable to meet Monika before the wedding day but we felt so comfortable with her and felt as if we’d known her along time. She paid so much attention to the details in our story and that was the most special part of the ceremony for us. We don’t really talk often about our feelings to others but on the day we got to share our story with our families and close friends, in the most amazing setting and in the perfect words.

Monika has been a pillar of calm, knowledge, and support. There have been many back and forth emails about running orders, vows, rituals, and the ceremony, things we'd never have considered ourselves, but with Monika's help came together beautifully in a day that will go down in the story of our relationship, and now marriage, as perfect. The ceremony was beautiful, personable, and tailor-made for us as a couple. It fit like a glove - just like Monika's presence in our very small company did.

Achmelvich Beach Elopement

From the very first email, Monika gave us all the information we needed and more, nothing was too much trouble, she provided us with our witnesses, she was effortlessly patient and guided us to figure out how we wanted our perfect moment to be. She made it clear to both of us, that the ceremony would be our way and her generosity and kindness were made clear from the very beginning. Monika was perfect for us from start to finish and gave us our perfect day in our perfect chosen place.

Monika has a lovely manner and nothing was too much bother. We made our vows to suit our Happy life together and Monika was great and kept a wee secret I slipped in to make my now husband laugh. We met up with her and were welcomed into her home. She kept in touch with us checking everything was OK. On the day it was perfect. The weather was a bit wild but love conquers all. We laughed and cried during the ceremony. It was written out perfectly to reflect our love for each other.

Achmelvich Beach wedding

When we started our search for a celebrant we were delighted to hear that Monika, who has such a close connection to our chosen ceremony location, was willing to marry us. From our first meeting, we knew that Monika was the one we wanted to conduct our ceremony. She has a fantastic, personable manner and made every step of the way effortless and enjoyable. The guidance, support, and advice we received from her were invaluable. Thank you Monika for making our wedding day so special

A multi-cultural coastal Highland wedding

Monika helped us create our dream ceremony through suggesting different approaches we could take and then allowing us to shape the ceremony in a way that was true and honest to us as a couple. She encouraged us to be ourselves, which allowed us to have a playful, loving and raw wedding ceremony, and to include and embed those who were and weren’t present on the day into every key moment of the celebration. It was a true gift she gave us

An Interfaith Church Wedding

Weddings are so often a blur, but the ceremony will always be remembered as a tranquil and purposeful moment for us. Monika helped integrate everyone in attendance (and those who couldn't make it) and her words held deep meaning for us on an individual level. Monika exceeded every expectation and helped make our day the best it could be.

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

They are all memorable for me, but a recent one that will be much remembered is a late December ceremony on a viewpoint overlooking a beach in the very far North of Scotland. We all braved the elements on a windy and cold winter's day but then decided to move the handfasting ritual into the couple's motorhome - bride & groom, three children, two witnesses, a photographer and a celebrant all huddled up... definitely memorable!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Creative Collaborative Supportive Positive Calm

What about your business are you most proud of?

How my business is just the right size so that every couple is very special and unique to me!

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Find that sweet spot between planning well and over-planning - keep some space to be surprised!

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

I love when couples create a memory box and are creative about what goes in it, you then know they will relive this special day over and over again and be reminded of all that was so special about the day.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

It's all about communicating with the couple and I always work around their preferences. Some people like to talk, others write, sometimes couples do everything together and sometimes they like to share things individually. I invest time in getting to know couples, give them lots of space to share their ideas, and get a sense of where they want to lead, and where they want to be lead and supported. Because I am happy to work in different ways, there is not any typical process. I sometimes pull together ceremonies within days or weeks, or years and it's always, unique, tailor-made and making it easy for the couple.

What is the most unusual thing you’ve been asked to plan?

A wild-swimming ceremony!

How do you ensure a stress-free wedding?

Prepare for all eventualities and in Scotland that means the weather not being quite as planned, the elements interfering, or any other possible glitches. I am by nature a calm person and I try to spread that calm, but in another part of my life I am also a project manager and those skills often come in handy to handle anything that could become stressful!

What do you love most about your job?

Getting to know people, listening to their story, and walking alongside them for a while as we make their dream come true.

What is your favourite moment at a wedding?

The arrival - whether the couple sees each other for the first time that day, or arrives together, there is something very special about that moment when it all becomes real!
