Natural, timeless, earthy, emotive, wild
I trained in photography over 20 years ago at university as part of a zoology degree (strange, but true!), and have always been the photographer of the family but never followed things formally until the COVID pandemic. I never considered myself a business person, but I've built this one from scratch, with hard work, determination, and a big leap to go from 'nothing' to what it is today. I followed my passion and I'm so proud to have made the hard, scary choice in order to get to where I am now.
Invest more in the things that are going to exist long after the wedding day itself.
oh too many to pick! I love handmade things, and personalised little touches... it makes the day unique to you as much as it means a lot to the guests I think
Basically prepare to get yourself a new best friend, a cheerleader and advocate, and an amazing photographer all wrapped into one! Our relationship starts from the very first message, and ideally I love to have a discovery call with all prospective couples so that we can both meet, find out about one another, ask questions and importantly see if our personalities fit! Your photographer is likely to be one of the people that you spend the most time with on your wedding day, so it really is important that you get along! From the first discovery call to you then hopefully booking in (with all contracts and invoices handled and shared online), the door is always open for wedding chat, venting, asking for confetti recommendations or timetable advice! We then have a planning meeting about a month ahead of the wedding itself to go through everything in detail, iterate that between us and then we get to the wedding day!
As well as lots of candid captures of you and your guests, with me moving through the crown like a photography ninja, and taking the important, expected photos of the day from the ceremony, I like to schedule in time for couple portraits but this can be in one block or split across the day if that works better. We really don't need a lot of time for these and I want you to feel like you are in your wedding rather than spending your time in a photoshoot, but equally it can be a nice moment to take a breath, connect, slow down, and breathe in what you have done together! I prompt rather than pose, I'm a bit fan of getting you moving (small movements as well as bit), getting you to focus on each other, I say hilarious things to make you think, or laugh, or smile, and I misdirect your attention from the potential awkwardness of "I'm having my photo taken" to a place where you might genuinely feel you are having fun, and you become your natural selves rather than the version that has a fake smile plastered on!
Post wedding I will send you some previews in the week following the wedding (usually within a couple of days) and then galleries will be delivered to you online within the timeframe specified in your contract (as it does vary depending on the time of year and volume of weddings), but usually around 6 to 8 weeks.
the position doesn't matter, but its a photo where you are really truly connecting with one another, sharing a moment, looking into one another's eyes and saying things that only the two of you know!
I've photographed in a planetarium, so plenty of originality photo wise in there!
embrace it - we are in the UK, and rain has a habit of arriving no matter what month we are in, so embrace it, prepare for it, and trust that rainy photos can actually be a lot of fun and some of the most gorgeous, atmospheric photos can come from you, a clear umbrella and a rainy day!
I was always the photographer of the family - the one who took the good snap and so was always given the camera as a default! I trained in photography as part of a biological photography portion of my Zoology degree where you complete the same as a 1st year photography student in one semester. Life became busy in my 20s and I drifted away from photography for some time, but it was during the pandemic and when I had my youngest that I suddenly had some sort of revelation that I could take the same kinds of photos (or better!) as I was seeing in studios and on instagram, and as everything was closed and we couldn't get her photos done anywhere else, I decided to pick up my camera again. I then did a lot of family photography working with brands for children's clothing and photography products, and then through some really helpful peer pressure started my photography business! I launched the family, couples and maternity side of things first, but then more and more past clients asked me to photograph their wedding or a family member's wedding, I then decided to take the full leap into weddings... and here we are!
