What is your most memorable wedding?
Every wedding has it's own unique feeling, and they are all amazing in their own different way. I enjoy each and every one. That said, I love a coastal wedding and this particular wedding was located in an old WW II fort in Plymouth. It was stunning everywhere you looked and the vibe was relaxed throughout the entire day. We had the most incredible sunset and we decided to amble down a million steps to the couples own private beach where they popped a champagne bottle and had a few photos together before climbing back up to start the evening celebrations. We finished the evening with dancing and cigars surrounded by fairy lights and a perfect starry night. It's times like that where I really appreciate what I do and how lucky i am to be a part of all the weddings I get the honour of capturing.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Silly, Fun, Relaxed, Creative and Passionate.
What about your business are you most proud of?
Getting to where my business is in such a short amount of time. It's quite an amazing thing to build something from nothing and see it so busy and successful. It's a daily reminder for me that I'm doing something right!
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Before you book a person/company, please make sure you do your research. Look at reviews, ask questions, make sure they are insured and always have a back up plan.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
A first reveal between the bride and groom BEFORE the ceremony. This took place in a beautiful rose garden 20 minutes before the ceremony. There was nobody else around, just me and the videographer and the couple. They read each other promises and had a moment to take everything in. Me and my colleague said nothing and just captured silently in the background. It really was a genuine, un-staged part of the day that you would never be able to re-create. The raw emotion was incredible and I even found myself getting teary too!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
I don't like seeing clients as clients, but more like friends. I believe photography is a very personal experience and the last thing anyone should have is someone that treats it as a job or a chore. I always aim for the experience to be a fun and enjoyable time. I'm also happy to go at whatever pace the couple wants to go. Nobody should feel uncomfortable on their wedding day.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
Easy, a beautiful portrait of them both. The day is about celebrating the two of them.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
Two brides trashing their dresses on a beach with multi coloured powders. It doesn't get crazier than that...does it?
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Umbrellas and stay positive. If it rains, it rains. Some of the best shots are in the rain. Embrace it.
Describe how you got into photography.
Believe it or not, I started taking a lot of pictures of aircraft displays. Then I joined a camera club and started a friendship with a wedding photographer. I developed a passion for portraiture and weddings. Fast forward to now and I cant think of anything better to do as a job (if you can call it that?)
