Try and have a face-to-face discussion with all suppliers before booking them. Don't just rely on email.
This varies by wedding and venue. I think sparklers can look great when used a night and I always bring confetti - it's surprising how many couples forget.
I always like to speak with couples that are interested in using me as their wedding photographer, to give you an opportunity to get to know me and my approach and answer any questions you may have. If you go ahead and book me, I'll follow that up with another call or face-to-face meeting (ideally at the venue) closer to your big day to finalise timings and any specific photo requirements.

Find somewhere at your venue that has a good source of natural light, but ideally not a window. Skylights are good, or a large covered porch. This will help to make sure you get the best light possible for any group shots you may want.
