Based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, Thomas Cannings Photo & Video specializes in relaxed, documentary-style wedding photography and videography. Thomas has a passion for creating vintage-inspired, timeless images that focus on the real moments and candid laughter that make your wedding day truly unique. His goal? To deliver photos and films that you’ll treasure for decades to come.
We know being in front of the camera can feel a little awkward. That’s why Thomas works hard to make you feel comfortable and natural. Clients describe him as professional, friendly, and easygoing—someone who blends seamlessly into your day. His discreet, low-key approach means he captures genuine emotions without interrupting your celebration. Many couples say they barely noticed he was there, yet the photos tell the full story beautifully.
Every wedding is one of a kind, and Thomas offers packages to match—from intimate ceremonies to grand celebrations. Many packages include a complimentary pre-wedding shoot, a relaxed chance to get to know each other and ease any camera nerves before your big day. Afterward, you’ll receive a beautiful collection of high-resolution, professionally edited images delivered through a private online gallery—perfect for sharing with friends and family.
As a dedicated wedding photographer, Thomas is committed to making your experience smooth and stress-free, from your first chat to the moment you receive your cherished memories.
My most memorable wedding was Lauren and Chris' gorgeous wedding at East Afton Farmhouse, November 2024. We weren't lucky with the weather all day, but then as the sun set, the most incredible sunset blasted through the clouds. Such an unforgettable and magical experience.
My photography style is candid, relaxed, fun, dependable and creative.
I'm most proud of the relationships that I build with couples, I am an honest hard working person and this comes across in the images/films I deliver. I work closely with each couple to understand their vision and capture the essence of their relationship. It's an honour to be trusted with such an important job, and I'm proud of the work that I do to create lasting memories! I love this job and how much it's grown since I founded it!
Take a breather! Wedding planning is very stressful, don't let it come between you and course any angst. It's a big job planning a wedding, so be organised and take it one step at a time! I am always happy to help if you have any questions wedding related too, being recently married myself!
Tough questions, as there's such a great variety at every wedding I have shot. I must say that one of my favourites was at Richard and Rain's wedding, and the rings had Lord of the Rings style engraving on them... I fully nerded out even before I heard the lovely cute story behind it!
The first step is to get in touch with me and I can confirm your date! We can then have an initial call to talk things through and get you booked into my diary. Following that, I usually recommend a pre-wedding shoot, as it's a great chance to get comfortable in front of the camera... and get to know me! I will reach out a few weeks in advance of the wedding for the finer, final details. Then it's the big day! I will arrive before my paid time, to set up and be ready and then I am in full work mode! I aim to have a sneak peek of photos sent within 48 hours and the full album in 6-8 weeks, absolute maximum.
I love the first look photos, whether it's in the ceremony or before. It's such a lovely moment where the couple sees each other for the first time on their wedding day; and my camera LOVES tears!
The groom party all wanted a bottoms out 'mooning' photo.... surprisingly this hasn't made it to my instagram or wedding.
Don't panic! You will still have an amazing day, no matter the weather. Apparently it's good luck too! I am fully kitted out for the rain with my cameras being water resistant, and it gives an opportunity for some creative pictures. I would recommend keeping an eye on the weather in the week building up to the wedding, and getting a few clear umbrellas, just in case!
I've always had a passion for photography, but it wasn't until I was gifted a camera for my 17th birthday that I started taking it seriously. I began taking photos of friends and family, and eventually started shooting small events. As I continued to hone my craft, I realised that wedding photography was my true calling. I love being able to capture the love and connection between two people on one of the most important days of their lives!
