SMJH Photography offers relaxed, natural storytelling wedding photography for couples across the North East of England. Based in Gateshead, I photograph weddings throughout Newcastle, Durham, Northumberland and beyond, capturing real moments, genuine emotion, and the quiet in-between details that make your day truly yours.
My approach is calm, unobtrusive, and people-focused. I believe your wedding day shouldn’t feel like a performance — it should feel like you. I work gently and intuitively, blending into the background when needed and offering light guidance only when it helps. This allows you to stay present, relaxed, and fully immersed in your day while I document it honestly as it unfolds.
I specialise in candid, emotion-led wedding photography, focusing on the connections between you and the people you love — the nervous excitement before the ceremony, the laughter during speeches, the hand squeezes, the tears, and the joy. I offer a range of wedding photography packages to suit different days and budgets, including full-day coverage and shorter options for smaller weddings and intimate celebrations. Packages include:
• Signature Storyteller Package – Full-day coverage from morning preparations through to the evening, capturing your complete wedding story.
• Half-Day Highlights Package – Ideal for relaxed weddings focusing on the key moments.
• Ceremony Moments Package – Perfect for intimate weddings, registry ceremonies, and elopements.
All packages include a beautifully edited online gallery with full printing rights. Engagement sessions are also available and are a wonderful way to get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day.
I also work closely with trusted professional videographers and content creators, offering discounted joint packages for couples who would like photography alongside wedding films or same-day content creation.

My style is relaxed, natural storytelling. I focus on real moments, genuine emotion, and the quiet in-between details that often mean the most. I’ll gently guide you when needed, but mostly I blend in and let your day unfold naturally.
We’re nervous about being photographed — can you help?
Absolutely. Most of my couples tell me they feel camera-shy, and that’s completely okay. I work calmly and unobtrusively, giving gentle direction only when needed. There’s no pressure to pose or perform — just space to be yourselves.
What’s included in your wedding photography packages?
All of my wedding packages include relaxed, story-led coverage, a private online gallery, full printing rights, and carefully edited images delivered with care. Coverage options range from shorter ceremonies to full-day storytelling.
Do you offer full-day wedding photography?
Yes — full-day coverage is one of my most popular options. This usually includes everything from getting ready through to the evening celebrations, so your story is documented from start to finish without rushing.
How many photos will we receive?
Every wedding is different, but full-day galleries typically include between 1,000–1,800 images, all thoughtfully edited to reflect the emotion and flow of your day rather than a set number.
How long does it take to receive our photos?
You’ll receive a small sneak peek within 24 hours, with your full online gallery ready within 2–4 weeks. I believe in delivering your memories promptly, without compromising on care or quality.
Do you photograph weddings across the North East?
Yes — I’m based in Gateshead and photograph weddings across Newcastle, Durham, Northumberland and the wider North East of England. Travel within the region is included.
Are you an inclusive wedding photographer?
