What is your most memorable wedding?
I love each of the weddings I've photographed, but the one that is probably the most memorable happened because of pure serendipity. I was visiting family in California and we went to Santa Barbara for the day. The Santa Barbara courthouse is a gorgeous wedding location for elopements and I happened to be touring it with my family one day and got to talking to a couple there for their elopement. They were super nice and told me that their photographer had an emergency and couldn't come, so they weren't going to have any photos. I happened to have my professional camera with me, so I was able to step in and photograph their wedding spur of the moment. It was an incredible experience to be able to provide memories for this sweet couple.
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Relaxed, romantic, colourful, friendly, organized
What about your business are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of the number of happy clients I hear back from after they receive their wedding photos. I love being a friendly presence on one of the most important days of my clients' lives and then being able to deliver those long-lasting memories.
What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?
Leave a little space around each element of the day. Sometimes things can run long, and if you've planned in a little bit of padding in your day, it will save you so much stress and you can really focus on the fun.
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
My favourite personal touch at a wedding was when a couple put a novel on each table place setting as their wedding favours. They chose the books specially for each guest and wrote a personalized, heartfelt note in the front covers. What a wonderful idea - now every time friends and family pick up that book, they'll think of the bride and groom!
Describe your typical process with a couple.
First, we’ll get to know each other a bit better and I’ll have the chance to find out what you want from your photography. I will be happy to answer all your questions! On your wedding day, I’ll be right by your side so it’s important that we’re a great personality fit. If you decide to book, I send you a digital contract to sign. Once you pay the deposit, you’re all set and your date is booked! In the lead-up to your wedding, I provide structured planning help, including organizing the photography timeline and family portrait schedule. I have a lot of experience guiding brides to create a stress-free schedule that allows for all the important photos you want while also leaving plenty of party time.
On the wedding day itself, I’m there to capture all your most important moments, help you to feel comfortable in front of the camera, provide gentle guidance when you need it, and allow you the space to fully enjoy the amazing thing you're there to do: marry your love! I select the very best images from across the wedding day and edit them in my signature colourful style. You’ll receive your photos 6-8 weeks after the wedding in a beautiful online gallery that allows you to share with friends and family.
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
There's no hard and fast rule, but I'd always recommend planning in a little time to go for a relaxed walk around the venue with me so we can capture some romantic portraits. In addition to the many candids you'll receive from me of the rest of the day, they're a great thing to add to your collection. I also strive to make everyone feel really comfortable in front of the camera.
What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?
It's hard to pick just one. Each and every wedding is completely unique.
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Embrace the weather! In Scotland, the weather is just so changeable that you never know what kind of weather you might get on your wedding day. I bring along clear umbrellas so that, if the couple is up for it, we can still go outside and get some lovely, romantic portraits in the natural outdoor light.
Describe how you got into photography.
When I was a kid I decided I was destined to become a fabulous and chic wedding dress designer. I started drawing out my designs for gowns on napkins. I had access to regular paper, but in my mind, it made me feel more like a mad genius to scribble them on napkins.
It didn’t take me long though to realize that I had no talent with a sewing machine and measurements. But weddings stuck with me as my love of photography grew. At the University of Southern California, I studied photography and graphic design. I started out my career creating movie posters, but when I wanted to branch out to running my own business I thought wedding photography would be the perfect choice. I've always loved pretty photographs of flowers, cakes, decor, and happy people. It's an honour to photograph one of the happiest days of people's lives. I launched my photography business in Los Angeles in 2016 and re-established it in Edinburgh when I moved here in 2019. I haven't looked back since!
